Work Text:
Inko walked down to the end of their apartment’s hallway, with little Izuku trotting along as he did his best to keep up with his mother until they stood in front of his newest friend’s door. She quickly knocked and waited until Tenko’s mom answered.
“I’m so sorry to intrude like this, but I’ve been called in to work at the hospital and I don’t have anyone that can watch my Izuku on such short notice.”
Before Inko could even ask to let her son stay, Tenko was already pulling Izuku into their living room and loudly declaring that it was a sleepover night. The two moms looked at each other and without words Tenko’s mom, Nao Shimura, assured Inko that Izuku was welcome to stay. With a quick bow followed by a ‘thank you’, Inko walked away to get to work.
“Does hot chocolate sound good to anyone else but me?” Nao said in front of the door to Tenko’s room, which quickly opened as her son excitedly hopped up and down.
“Hot chocolate would be amazing!” Little Izuku, who was several years younger than his friend, nodded in agreement. The two followed closely behind Nao as she made her way into the living room where Tenko’s older sister, Hana, was seated on the couch with her sketchbook and a wide variety of colored pens, markers, and crayons strewn about the couch cushions.
Seeing the parade of people heading toward the kitchen, Hana drew the last lines on her page before hopping down to follow her brother and his friend. Nao directed the children to the seats along the island counter as she gathered her ingredients for stove-top hot chocolate.
The kids squirmed in their seats with energy to spare but not wanting to risk losing their chance to have some sweet hot cocoa by being naughty. Hana turned to her brother, his green-haired friend close behind him as she began to speak.
“Tenko, I’ve been thinking more about how our hero outfits would look once we go to UA and become pros! I made some sketches, based on the designs of you-know-who,” Hana said, her voice reaching a whisper near the end to keep that info just between her and her little brother. “I’ll show you once we’ve had our cocoa!”
Izuku smiled softly as he watched the siblings interact, thinking of how fun it’d be to have a brother or sister that would want to be a hero just like he did. It didn’t seem possible for him since his dad was working in a far away place and his mom was busy making people feel better at the hospital.
“Okay, looks like we’re ready for some hot chocolate!” Nao said cheerfully as she ladled the hot and sweet concoction into the prepared mugs. “Be careful and blow on it before taking small sips, you don’t want to burn your lips or mouth. Let it cool down if it’s too much right now.”
The trio of children carefully handled their hot and tasty treat, as well as the small dish of candies and cookies that Nao set down before them as she went back to clean up after her cooking. Their talk focused on how good the sweets were, with Izuku tearing up at how happy he felt to be included in such a nice treat.
“You shouldn’t cry so much, Izuku,” Tenko said as he carefully wiped the tears streaking down freckled cheeks gently. “If you want to be able to fight properly as a hero, you have to be able to see clearly!”
Hana stepped between them as Izuku calmed down and smiled at Tenko’s consideration. “You should come look at what I drew for our hero outfits too, Izuku. I’m super proud of yours!” Izuku was surprised as Tenko’s sister pulled him out of his seat and led both him and her brother back to the living room where she’d been drawing.
“I thought we’d wear costumes like our other grandma, Nana, Tenko!” and she flipped back a few pages to show them a set of matching suits depicting both Hana and Tenko Shimura. A black body suit with yellow and red accents along belts and gloves, with both shown wearing a white cape.
Little Izuku could feel his heart light up as he saw the cool costume designs Hana drew. She did a great job of making both hers and Tenko’s look so cool! Seeing it drawn on paper felt like his friends were one step closer to their shared dream of being heroes.
“Don’t think I forgot about you, Izuku!” Hana said as she rifled through her pages once again. She came to a stop on a page that still held a few colors from the previous costumes, though they were more influenced by costumes his favorite hero All Might had worn through his history as a pro hero.
His drawing showed him wearing a green bodysuit that complimented his hair and eye color, while his gloves and knee guards were white and red. Rather than a white cape that would be similar to the Shimura’s costumes, his was a shorter yellow cape.
Hana had given him his own personal look, while still including elements and colors that linked him back to his best friends. “It’s… It’s incredible, Hana,” Izuku said as his waterworks started up again. Tenko once again dried his cheeks as he offered a wide grin.
“Together, we’ll be unstoppable!,” Tenko said, with both Hana and Izuku cheering behind him. They continued to discuss their future plans as heroes while casually eating the treats they’d been given. The hour had grown late when Nao Shimura finally interrupted them.
“Okay, kids, it’s time to get some sleep. Tenko, do you need your nighttime balm for your itch?”
Tenko quickly shook his head, the chronic itching that had bothered his face and neck didn’t flare up at all while Izuku was there for the night, a much-needed relief for him. “I feel fine, mom. Izuku can stay in my room, right?!”
“Of course, I already laid out futons for you both. Now get some sleep, I’m sure Izuku’s mom will be picking him up early when she’s done with work.” The kids bustled about, returning their mugs and dishes to the kitchen before Hana gathered up her sketchbook and art supplies, wishing her brother and Izuku a good night as she slyly winked at the two.
Settled down in their futons, laying beside each other, Izuku and Tenko lazily whispered about more of their plan to be a team of heroes, creating their dream through scenarios they spoke of before they both drifted off to sleep.
Present Day
“He’s going down the third alley on the left, just like Deku predicted, his quirk is charging up for another burst, so touch him before he spots either of you as a target, Reverb,” Hana said as she reported from her high perch over the crime scene. She’d grown accustomed to Nana’s ‘Float’ ability, as well as using the technology resources that she and Hero Deku had perfected to be a wealth of information from above as she guided her brother and his partner through their mission.
“Deku! He caused a collapse from the wall leading out of that alley, clear the debris so I can pursue!” Reverb said. Seconds later, Deku appeared in the alley, his fiery breath flickering against the darkened walls before he took in a deep breath and let loose a fiery deluge that quickly rendered the fallen rock to dust.
“I’m going ahead!” Reverb said as he slipped through the remnants of Deku’s attack. The greenette could only shake his head as he admired his closest friend and partner’s dedication. Their target used his quirk to again destroy the road beneath their feet, planning to escape when the pursuing hero stumbled as the ground fractured under his feet.
“Nice try!” Reverb shouted, each step of his feet and casual touch of his hands along the ground only sought to break the pieces into smaller bits momentarily before reforming them by his own will to their previous shapes. Their suspect stumbled and found himself stuck as the pavement Reverb fixed caught the villain’s shoes, leaving him with no way to escape.
Their target in custody, the trio of heroes joined together as the villain was fitted with quirk-negating cuffs and led to a nearby police car. Brief statements were given by each of the trio, with promises that they’d go into the agency to provide a more in-depth report.
All the work finished and ready to be settled the next day, Hana, Deku, and Reverb returned to their shared apartment. Deku reminded the siblings to leave their shoes at the door before slipping out of his own and casually making his way to their apartment's bathroom.
They decided not to skimp on comfort when they looked for an apartment. Their choice didn’t disappoint with the relaxing shower and soaking baths that were provided. Deku tried to avoid letting his partners know of his aches and pains, but they caught on easily as they found the green-haired hero asleep and close to drowning with as low as he’d sunk into the hot tub.
“Might wanna save your boyfriend, Tenko. He’s almost completely submerged and I’m ready for my bath!” Hana said as she went to her room to gather her night clothes and give the boys time to clear out of the bathroom.
“Yeah, yeah,” Tenko said as he carefully removed Izuku from the tub and wrapped him in an oversized towel, the sleepy hero waking up as he cuddled himself closer to Tenko. “Sometimes I think you fall asleep like this on purpose, just so I can carry you off to bed like some princess,” he said as Izuku only grinned at the thought.
“It’s not so bad being treated like a princess, especially if it’s my own personal hero taking care of me.” Tenko nearly dropped Izuku with that remark, his heart so overwhelmed with love for his first friend, hero partner, and boyfriend that he stopped walking for a moment.
Sleepy green eyes looked up to his crimson, content and full of adoration for him. “Yeah, it’s not bad at all,” Tenko replied, leaving a gentle kiss on Izuku’s forehead before continuing to their room.
