Chapter Text
The sun is rising over Seattle, a black cab is driving down the freeway. Planes flying in and out over the skyline that we call home. The sound of suitcase wheels rolling by as the brunette steps out of the cab. Voices hailing and talking creating an atmosphere that you can only imagine is chaos.
Leaning against a pillar, Amelia stands waiting. Every two minutes she checks her watch, ticking running through her head as she watches the hands go from each number. Every time the arrivals door opens, Amelia's head flies up awaiting the arrival of someone.

A suitcase is being pulled behind a tall woman. Her black heels clicking against the tiled floors. She's wearing a pair of green trousers and a black blouse, and her long blonde hair, slightly curled, bouncing as she walks through the white hallways. Reaching for her now vibrating phone, her hand slips into her pocket. "Hello... yeah I'm coming through now" Her light, warm voice says into the phone.
She pushes the green button to open the doors into the Arrivals Hall and her ocean blue eyes begin to dart the room. Looking around her eyes lock with the deep blue orbs of the brunette. The world becomes slow motion, the brunette begins running towards her, her hair bouncing from shoulder to shoulder, her flannel wafting behind her and her arms opening as she reaches the blonde. Holding the brunette into the hug the blonde stops herself from sobbing into Amelia's shoulder.
"I've missed you so much Arizona" Amelia breathes into her shoulder. The tears begin to roll down Arizonas cheeks. The reason she came home, to Seattle, was Richard. Well not for Richard, he called Arizona and offered her a job. Not just any job, chief of fetal surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial. The hospital had undergone an expansion, Teddy being chief had been the greater good for the hospital. The thought of having to leave Sofia in New York made things a hundred times harder. If Herman hadn't gambled their future on one procedure, which caused the Robbins-Herman Centre to lose its funding, Arizona definitely wouldn't have taken the job. But Callie was making everything harder.
-
"You're just leaving, like that! Wow! No thought for our daughter!" Callie exclaims as Arizona begins to pack up her case. "I need a job Calliope. We aren't together, we haven't been together ever since I moved back here, I can visit whenever I want and Sofia can come and see me for holidays if she wants. I need to take this job" Arizona pleads with her as Callie keeps taking things out of her cases.
Arizona becomes more and more infuriated as Callie continues to take things out of her case. "If you wanted me to stay, then why drive me away!" Arizona shouts at Callie as she stops taking the clothes out of the case. "I didn't drive you away" Callie denies. "You did! I came back here for Sofia. You were messaging me as if you wanted me back. It made me feel like you actually wanted me here. I've been here for 6 years. 6 Years Calliope, and you haven't tried, not even once, to make me feel welcome. I only stayed here for Sofia and my job. But now my job is where my home is. Seattle. I'll visit Sofia whenever I can but I need to go home." Arizona says as she pushes Callie out of her apartment. The boxes taking over the living room, leaving no seats to sit down on. Slamming the door, Arizona slides down the door and lets out the tears that she held in.
Her first thought, as she grabbed her phone, was to text the one person from Seattle that could help. Amelia. The only person, other than Richard that knew she was coming home. 'Hey x' Arizona pressed send and just sat in silence until her phone buzzed. 'Hey, you okay? x' Amelia responds. 'Can you pick me up from the airport tomorrow at 3?' Arizona types out before once again hitting the send button. The blondes blue eyes stare at the three dots as Amelia types. 'of course x i've missed you' Amelia sent.

Arizonas tears fall down the brunettes back. "Hey, you okay!" Amelia says, holding the blondes shoulders, as she tries to regulate her breathing. "I- I'm home!" Arizona exclaims as she lets out a breathy sigh. Amelia takes Arizona's luggage and begins to wheel it towards the taxi rank. Arizona, still holding onto Amelia's arm begins to take in the Seattle air and smiles. The sun is shining brightly, but it begins to rain. A small rainbow is in view in the distance. "Hey the weather knows your back" Amelia says trying to lighten the mood. "Yeah, and i'm back with you" Arizona leans into Amelia and kisses her on the cheek. "That one week you were here was not enough! I'm so glad you're back beautiful" Amelia smiles.
-
Arizona came back to Seattle about 5 months ago to perform a foetal surgery with Amelia and Jo, Amelia was the one person that Arizona felt she could trust enough with everything that had been happening in New York. She spent the whole week with Amelia, rather than in a lonely hotel room. They became closer than they ever had been, and they were close. Arizona confided in Amelia, and Amelia confided in Arizona, it was a perfect match. Well one thing led to another and by the end of the week the two women had both fallen madly in love with each other. Neither admitted their feelings for each other, but deep down they both knew.
The cab drive back to Arizonas new flat was quiet but nice. The moving truck was due to arrive the next morning but Arizona wanted to see her new place. Top floor penthouse in uptown Seattle. Gorgeous view overlooking the parks, skyline and the hospital. Amelia kindly offered up her flat until Arizonas place was ready for her.
Looking out the window of the cab as the women drive towards Amelia's place, Arizona reaches for Amelia's hand. "Thank you!" she quietly mutters. "Anything for you" Amelia replies.
The cab dropped the women outside Amelia's building. The red brick reminding Arizona of her time here a few months back. The cold autumn air sent shivers down their backs as the yellow leaves gracefully landed by their feet. The sound of jingling shook Arizona from her haze, "Sorry" Amelia says as she notices Arizona's startled look. "No, it's okay... Why do you have so many keys" Arizona asks knowing it'll be for something funny. Amelia begins to explain every individual key. "This one is for the main door, this one is for my apartment door, this one is for the terrace, this one is for the balcony, this one is for my car, this one is for my office, and... this one is actually yours" She says as she hands Arizona a key. The blonde looks up in confusion. "It's a key to my apartment. I know you have your own place but if you ever feel lonely you can come and stay with me" Amelia explains as she stands in front of the woman she loves, hoping she likes it.
The small circular key on a keyring with an 'A' keyring on it. "Are you sure?" Arizona asks as she admires the key in her hand. Amelia's hand makes its way to Arizonas and she holds it tight. "I'm always sure, especially when it comes to you." Amelia assures. The ocean blue eyes of Arizona begin to puddle with tears. Amelia lets the two of them into the apartment and they take the stairs up to the third floor. Amelia takes the case from Arizona and begins to make some waters. As she passes the glass to the emotional blonde, Arizona explains everything. "Callie made me feel horrible about leaving Sofia, she kept saying things that would try to make me stay but, ever since I moved to New York, she never once attempted to make me feel welcome. I was there for 6 years and I only went to New York thinking that she wanted me." Arizona explained. Amelia's hand was now resting on her thigh as she rubbed her thumb in circles, hoping it would calm her down a bit. "When Herman gambled the centre and lost the funding, it was like a way out, a way home!" Arizona continued. Amelia's blue eyes watch the pale blonde as she tries to explain everything but in the end Amelia just gets lost in her eyes.
"Amelia! You okay?" Arizona asked trying to get the brunettes attention. "Hey, yeah sorry i forgot how dreamy your eyes are" Amelia admits. Her cheeks are suddenly coloured red and her eyes dart away. "Hey look at me, your eyes are dreamy too, they're what bring me back to the surface." Arizona states. Amelia and Arizonas eyes lock as they both lean in. The air became free and the surroundings engulfed them in a sense of safety. They both had nothing holding them back and they leant in. As their lips touch they suddenly took each other in their arms. Amelia had never felt love like the one she is currently investing herself in. Arizona hadn't felt like this. Not even when she was with Callie. The kiss lasted minutes maybe longer but it was all worth the wait.
Five months ago the two women had been trying to figure out what each other wanted, and all along, they wanted each other.
"Seattle is home, Amelia. But when i'm with you, it's like coming home, over and over" Arizona said.
