Asher woke up in his bed. Which wasn't the weird part, the weird part was the man next to him on the bed. Ajax. He decided it was best not to question it too much, as he quietly stroked the hair out of Ajax’s face. The touch woke him up and as Ajax saw him he smiled.
“Sorry I woke you.” Asher apologized with a somber look on his face.
“It doesn’t matter anyway.” Ajax had that calm smile on his face, the one Asher was so used to when he first met him. The smile he now knew was so fake.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m not real, silly.” He poked him on the cheek. “You’re dreaming.”
He felt a need to vomit. Of course he wasn’t real. Of course this wasn’t real, it was too good to be true. Especially after what Asher did, he was sure Ajax hated him.
“But why are you here?”
“We both know the answer to that.”
There was a moment of silence between them where none of them knew what to say next.
“How long will you stay?” He looked Ajax in the eyes, still so bright and blue with that little hint of green. They had always mesmerized him, but it was never something he was going to admit out loud.
“Until you wake up.”
“Can I hold you?” A strange desperation in his voice showed, but thankfully Ajax ignored it. He agreed and Asher pulled him close, hiding his face in his chest. He wanted to cry but he didn’t have the energy to, so he just held on to him wishing the moment would never end.
But then Asher woke up for real this time. In his room on an empty bed. He sighed and checked his phone for the time. It was November 23rd, Ajax’s birthday. He remembered the present he had bought for him a few months back, that was now going to just stay wrapped under the bed. He was not going to make it through today.
