Chapter 1: Sealand

Chapter Text

Your thoughts drifted to one of the stories that Jxk mentioned. The Little Mermaid. You liked the movie a lot, but were a bit upset it didn’t stay to the true story. Besides that though, it was one of your favorite Disney classics.

“___, wait for me!” You opened your eyes to see a pirate ship in front of you. But that’s not what freaked you out. It was under water, so that meant… What’s going on?! And that voice… it sounded awfully familiar…

“You know I can't swim that fast!” It was sort of a British accent, but it sounded like a child. It sounded like… Sealand?! You looked over to see a red fish, with a white stripe going all around his body, and a black underbelly. He looked just like his flag. You hesitated before saying a line on the top of your head.

“There it is. Isn't it fantastic?” You asked, as he glanced over. While he did so, you decided to see if suspicion was true. You examined yourself. Your top was a shade of (2nd f/c) and was a tank top that was cut-off above the belly button. But like before, that’s not what caught your eye. Starting at the waistline, a glistening (f/c) tail swished back in forth, below you.

“Yeah . . . sure . . . it - it's great. Now let's get outta here.” He stuttered.

“You're not getting cold fins now, are you?” You giggled a little at the nervous little fish.

“Who, me? No way. It's just, it, err . . . it looks - damp in there.” His excuse made you smile. “Yeah. And I think I may be coming down with something. Yeah, I've got this cough.”

“All right. I'm going inside. You can just stay here and - watch for sharks.” You said, smirking as you tried out the swimming. It felt like your two legs were tied together at the ankle as you swam, except whenever you flicked the tail back and forth, you built up speed and each flick was filled with a sense of power. You swam through a porthole, as Sealand replied to you.

“Okay. Yeah - you go. I'll stay and - what? Sharks! ___!” You heard him quickly swim over and turned to see him get stuck in the pothole. ”___ . . . I can't . . . I mean - ___ help!”

“Oh-“ You stopped your laughing and decided to be safe by using his human name. You helped him out of the porthole and smiled at him. “-Peter!”

“___, do you really think there might be sharks around here?” He whispered. You felt a strange presence behind you, but shook it off.

“Peter, don't be such a guppy.” You said, trying your best not to stutter.

“I'm not a guppy.” He mumbled, as you led the way through the ship. “This is great - I mean, I really love this. Excitement, adventure, danger lurking around every corn- YAAAAHHHHHHHH!! ___!!

He saw a skull, which him to crash into a pillar in fear, causing it to cave in. He swims frantically away and successfully knocks you over. He swam behind you and you could feel him shaking.

“Oh, are you okay?”

“Yeah sure, no problem, I'm okay . . .”

“Shhh . . .” You continued to swim around, until you saw a fork. “Huh? I wonder what this is doing here…”

“Wow, cool! But, err, what is it?” He asked, looking at the fork as if it were a foreign object, which in a way it was for him.

“It’s called a fork.. or at least that’s what I heard.” You put the fork in the bag that hung off your shoulder. That same strange feeling washed over you, again, and you looked around for that eerie presence.

“What was that? Did you hear something?” Peter asked, swimming closer to you.

“Hmm, I wonder what this one is?” You were being distracted by a pipe in the boat, while Peter became extremely paranoid.

“___ . .”

“Peter, will you relax? Nothing is going to happen.” You didn’t believe your own words, but he was little and you didn’t want him worrying too much.

“AHHH!! Run!! Run!! We're gonna die!!” Run? But you were underw- your thoughts stopped as soon as you saw the shark. You began to swim after the quickly retreating Sealand, in hopes of getting away from the large shark that chased the two of you. While swimming away, you felt yourself get pulled back and looked to see your bag get caught on a broken piece of wood. You begin to try to get it undone, as the shark started to advance on you.

You luckily got the bag and swam through the porthole, where Peter was waiting anxiously. The shark tries to get through the porthole, but gets stuck because of his enormous size.

“You big bully!” Peter stuck his tongue out at him (do fish have tongue’s?) and the shark snapped at him, causing him to yelp in fright and swim back over to you.

“Peter, you really are a guppy.” You laughed.

“I am not…” He mumbled, clearly not amused. You both broke the surface of the water and looked over to an extremely small island. A seagull was on it and he was humming loudly.

“Alfred!” You heard Peter shout, but if his name was Alfred… What was going on?!

“Whoa! Mermaid off the port bow! ___, how you doing, dude?!” He was looking through the telescope wrong and shouting loudly. You had swam up to the foot of the island, but with him holding the telescope wrong, it made it look like you were far away. When he put the telescope down, he jumped in surprise. “Whoa, what a swim!”

“Alfred- look what we found.” You put the bag up on the rock and he hopped down to inspect the stuff.
