Summary:

Five times somebody suspects that Gavi is in a relationship, and one time somebody figures it out on their own.

Work Text:

Fermín is taller than Gavi now.

It wasn't always like that. Gavi used to tower over him like the other boys their age. Fermín looked six at twelve and he looked twelve at sixteen. It wasn't until he got his (very late) growth spurt that he shot up to a perfectly respectable 172 cm.

He and Gavi are the same height now, though Gavi insists that he is a little taller.

Gavi is the same boy he met all those years ago at Betis. He hasn't changed much over the years, and Fermín is thankful for the familiarity. He knows Gavi like the back of his own hand.

And like how he knows when something is up with his hand, he knows when something is up with Gavi.

It's subtle at first. Starts with Gavi and the phone he keeps checking every few seconds.

That isn’t new. Gavi is always on his phone, but he’s glued to the thing now. Hardly paying attention to Fermín while he tells her about Berta and a party they went to in Madrid.

“The place was packed with people but we were able to get drinks— hey, are you listening?”

Gavi is evidently not listening. He’s engrossed in his phone, ears closed to the world and fingers tapping at the speed of light.

“Gavi,” Fermín calls his attention.

No answer. Gavi continues typing.

“Gavi.”

Gavi doesn't look up from his phone, fully focused on whoever he's talking to. “Yeah?”

“Pablito.” Fermín nudges Gavi with his elbow. “Who’s got you so hooked on your phone today?”

Gavi finally looks up from the screen. “Huh?” he questions, brows furrowing together on his forehead. “What’s happening?”

“I was telling you something.”

“Oh.” To his credit, Gavi does actually look guilty about ignoring Fermín, who isn’t actually offended. If anything, he’s more curious about who Gavi is talking to. “Sorry, I was distracted.”

Fermín can tell. “Who’s distracting you?”

“A friend,” Gavi answers, trying to play it cool.

“Cristo?”

“No, someone else.” Gavi pauses. “You don’t know him.”

Gavi’s friends consist of guys from the first team, guys from La Masia, guys from the national team, and guys from back home— all of whom are people Fermín knows.

“He must be a good friend,” Fermín says. “You've been texting him the whole time I was here.”

Gavi looks sheepish. He sets his phone down on the table with the screen facing down. “Sorry, Fermín. I— it won't happen again.”

“It’s fine.” Fermín isn’t mad at Gavi. Even if he was, he couldn't stay mad at him for too long. “Can I finish my story now?”

Gavi nods. “Go ahead.”

“There were so many people at the club, I could see Los Blancos shirts everywhere.” Predictably, Gavi makes a disgusted face at that. Fermín and Gavi both hate Real Madrid, have hated them ever since they were kids. “I thought I saw Bellingham by the bar.”

“Really?” Gavi asks, eyes growing wider. “You saw him there?”

“I think so.” Fermín shrugs. “I'm not sure if it was him.”

“Was he with anyone?”

“I don't know, Vinicius maybe?” Fermín doesn’t like thinking about Madridistas, knows Gavi doesn’t like doing that too. “Why?”

“Nothing,” Gavi says. His phone buzzes on the table. He doesn’t reach out and grab it. “So, how are you and Berta?”

Fermín is happy to tell him about his love life. He knows better than to pry into Gavi’s. If Gavi wants him to know something, he’ll tell him.

One thing is for sure though, Gavi is definitely seeing someone.

The last thing Iñigo expected when he signed for Barcelona was to become close friends with a nineteen-year-old boy.

Can you blame him? Gavi is very easy to befriend. He’s been nothing but nice to him and the other newbies since the very beginning.

Iñigo has a soft spot for him; he cares for him like a little brother. He’s happy to give Gavi advice when the boy approaches him asking for it.

“What’s wrong?” Iñigo asks, pulling Gavi into a side-hug. “Anything bothering you?”

Gavi fidgets. “I have this… friend,” he starts, trying to sound casual. “And he’s having relationship issues.”

“Oh?” Iñigo asks. He’s seen this tactic before. Gavi is clearly talking about himself but he's too embarrassed to admit it outright. Still, Iñigo respects his need for discretion, so he decides to play along. “What kind of relationship issues?”

“I— my friend thought that his boyfriend went out partying without telling him.” Gavi takes a deep breath. “Turns out, the boyfriend didn’t actually go out and it was just a misunderstanding.”

Iñigo is happily married, and has been for a long time. It makes sense that Gavi went to him for advice. “And the boyfriend is upset with your friend?”

“Yeah,” Gavi says, looking glum. “I— my friend doesn’t know what to do. He’s never been in a relationship before.”

“Well,” Iñigo starts. “The first thing your friend needs to do is acknowledge that he made a mistake. Misunderstandings happen, but what’s important is taking responsibility for them.”

Gavi nods, his eyes earnest. “So what should my friend say?”

“Your friend has to be honest,” Iñigo continues. “He should be straightforward about his feelings."

“What do you mean?”

“You— your friend can say something like, ‘I thought you went out without telling me, and it made me feel bad. I realize now that I was wrong, and I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions’.”

Gavi listens intently, absorbing every word. “That’s it?”

“Yes, that’s it,” Iñigo says. “It’s important that your friend and his boyfriend are open and honest about those things. Trust is important in a relationship.”

Gavi’s worry seems to ease a bit, and he manages a small smile. “That makes sense. Thanks, Iñigo.”

And then he’s off, most likely to call his boyfriend and apologize.

Who is Gavi's girlfriend? Meet Ana 'Anita' Pelayo

By Carla Reyes

FC Barcelona’s Gavi is one of the best football youngsters in the world. The La Masia-trained midfielder is widely known for his pressing and passion on the pitch.

Off the pitch, however, Gavi is notoriously private when it comes to his personal life. In fact, Gavi has never been linked to anyone romantically apart from the rumors surrounding an alleged crush from Princess Leonor of Spain during the 2022 World Cup.

However, it seems like the young footballer may have finally found someone special in his life. Speculation is rife that Gavi is quietly dating Ana ‘Anita’ Pelayo, a mysterious beauty who has been spotted cheering Gavi on during recent matches.

Anita Pelayo (@anapelayozz), reportedly an Instagram influencer, has been seen in the company of Gavi with friends in Barcelona and in Gavi’s hometown, Los Palacios.

While neither Gavi nor Anita has confirmed the speculation, recent social media posts and sightings together have only fueled the gossip mill further, particularly among Gavi’s dedicated fans on Instagram and TikTok.

Could this be the start of a love story fit for the ages, or just another fleeting affair in the world of famous footballer relationships?

Yes, I’ll still write Gavi x Reader! Personally, it doesn’t matter to me if he has a girlfriend or not because at the end of the day, what I write is fiction and just for fun.

i genuinely don’t think gavi and anita are together. she’s dropping ‘hints’ and making all these cryptic posts because she knows that she’ll get attention. she's clearly only using gavi for clout and it's disgusting

Stop hating on a young girl just because she exists next to your favorite player. Gavi doesn't know you and he WILL never date you, especially not with that attitude.

Aurora hums softly to herself as she carefully places festive decorations on the dining table.

Beside her, Pablo helps by setting down the centerpiece of holly and pine cones. Their parents are busy in the kitchen making dinner.

Pablo sets a glass down on a coaster. “When is your boyfriend coming?”

“He’ll be here in an hour.” Hopefully, everything will be set up and ready by then. “When is yours coming?”

Pablo chokes on air. If he was holding a plate, he would have dropped it on the ground. “Excuse me?”

She reaches over to adjust a set of candles, watching her brother’s face from the corner of her eye. “When are you going to introduce us to your boyfriend?”

Pablo sputters, clearly caught off guard by the question. “What boyfriend?”

“The one who you should’ve invited to dinner.”

“Fermín isn’t my boyfriend.”

Honestly, Aurora used to think he was. How could she not when Fermín is the only one Pablo brings home for family dinner? She genuinely thought they were a thing before Pablo started spending his free time talking to a mystery boy.

She knows it’s a boy, the deep voice on the other end of Pablo’s constant phone calls makes it obvious. She only hopes that said boy makes Pablo happy.

Aurora knows her brother well enough to detect when he's being evasive. Over the past few months, she has noticed subtle but significant changes in his behavior, including but not limited to:

1. Pablo spending more time in his bedroom, staying awake until four in the morning talking on the phone.

2. Pablo taking extra care of his appearance. He’s coming home with better haircuts and trendy clothes two sizes too big for him.

And most shockingly,

3. Pablo speaking English. Aurora couldn’t believe her ears the first time she heard the English curse words come out of his mouth.

These small shifts have not gone unnoticed, and they fuel her suspicion that Pablo might be keeping something— or someone —under wraps.

“Not Fermín,” Aurora says. “That other boy you’re always talking to.”

“Pedri?”

Aurora resists the urge to sigh. “You know, it's okay if you’re seeing someone. You don’t have to hide it from me.”

Pablo fidgets with a place mat. “I’m not hiding anything.”

“So we should only expect Fermín to come over for the holidays?”

“Yes.”

“Alright,” Aurora concedes. “But if you do decide to bring someone special, just know that they’re welcome here. The holidays are all about being with the ones you care about.”

Pablo doesn’t say anything, but Aurora can see the small appreciative smile on his face.

Aurora watches him for a moment longer before turning back to decorating the table. She decides to let the issue go for now. Pablo will tell her and their parents about his boyfriend when he’s ready.

Xavi is old.

He isn't ashamed to admit that. He’s a walking talking artifact in football years, back at the club of his life and coaching players young enough to be his kids.

Said kids are currently shoving and screaming at Real Madrid players. Or at least one kid is, the rest are either holding him back or standing between him and the wall of Madridistas.

The referee, as usual, is useless. He flashes a yellow card at Gavi, even though Nacho had been the one at fault.

Xavi, too, is screaming at the referee. Maybe a more mature version of himself would have stayed calm because he’s the Mister and he's been there, done that, but he cares too much about this club to be calm.

After all, this is Barça and Barça is home. Will always be home to every kid lucky enough to wear its colors.

Gavi knows this better than anyone. The boy is proudly Culé and loudly Antimadridista. He hates anything and everything Los Blancos.

Or at least that’s what Xavi assumed was the case.

It happens in a split second, so quickly it would have gone unnoticed by the untrained eye, but Xavi sees it.

Jude Bellingham shoves himself between Vinicius and Gavi, arms stretched to the sides to shield Gavi from the chaos instead of his teammate.

And it happens again.

Gavi had been marking Bellingham, doing a very good job of making sure that the other boy didn't get the ball.

Bellingham, on the other hand, has decided that wrapping his arm around Gavi’s waist is the way to go. He has his hand cupped over his mouth, leaning down to tell Gavi something that makes his face turn red.

These things happen in football. A lapse of judgment and talking shit. Xavi could just be seeing things that aren’t there.

But then it— whatever ‘it' is— happens a third time. At the end of the goalless match where both Barça and Madrid go home with a point each.

Everybody is shaking hands and patting backs. Jules is joking around with Tchouaméni, and the Spanish kids are catching up with Joselu.

At the corner of the pitch stands Gavi and Bellingham, whispering to each other like they haven’t seen each other in years. Xavi has never seen Gavi utter so many words at once.

And he has certainly never seen Jude Bellingham gently brush a stray lock of hair out of Gavi’s forehead. Gavi blushes at the gesture, eyes filled with fondness when he looks up at Bellingham.

Xavi realizes what exactly is going on here.

He can’t say he’s surprised. He’s seen everything from the Figo affair to financial ruin, and he has seen this before. Has been guilty of this before.

It’s always a Madridista. Those lot have a natural way of getting under their skin, like a deep itch that they can’t help but scratch. It happened to the best of them. Even the very best.

Xavi won’t reprimand Gavi. He won't even mention it unless it affects Gavi’s performance on the pitch. He won’t interfere with the personal lives of young people. This isn’t Romeo and Juliet.

He’s fine with it. Really. They’re young but they’re young adults. They can make their own decisions.

What Xavi isn’t fine with, however, is being greeted by the sight of them making out when he walks into the Barcelona dressing room.

Gavi and Bellingham scramble off of each other, doing their best to act like their lips weren't locked and Bellingham’s hand wasn’t plunged inside Gavi’s shorts.

“Mister.” Gavi is flushed in the face when he turns to Xavi. His kit has suspiciously disappeared from his torso, revealing bright red marks all over his body. Xavi doesn't want to know how he got those.

Bellingham doesn’t look much better. His shorts are circled around his ankles and his hands are strategically placed over his crotch area.

Xavi does not look impressed. You would think that two midfielders would be more aware of their surroundings. “Get dressed. There are cameras everywhere.”

“We— we weren't... it's,” Gavi starts, looking between Bellingham and Xavi. “I— I can explain.”

“No need,” Xavi says. He needs to delete this memory from his brain. “I already knew.”

He leaves them to clean themselves up, making sure to close the door. Behind it, he can hear the boys already bickering with each other.

“This is your fault!”

“My fault? He’s your coach.”

“You’re the one who followed me in here! The match just ended!”

“You’re the one who looks like that after a match!”

“Like what?”

“All sweaty and pink and attractive!”

Xavi lets out a sigh.

Kids these days.
