Scanning through the last paragraph of your essay, a sigh escapes from your chapped lips and you stretch out your arms behind you with the relief of finalizing your project, the hours of being crouched on your desk with stinging fingers as you jolt down words finally felt worth it and you were more than ready to fall head straight into your bed.
Feeling the weight practically escape your shoulders, you stand up to find that the early evening has slipped away and you skipped dinner, the muted ticks lightly from your small alarm clock and it makes you wonder how time has passed 10p.m. now and you can feel your stomach grumble, you had forgotten you change out of your uniform too. Wondering if there was even any food in your fridge, you grab ahold of your wallet just in case and make your way out your bedroom and to the living space of your small apartment.
Scanning momentarily at your empty fridge, you closed it and pried it open again as if it were to magically appear with a meal inside before pouting to yourself. You guess it was already the time of the month you'd finish through your groceries. With a reluctant grab onto your shoes, you placed them on once you've reached the genkan and slipped the apartment keys into your skirt pocket to leave.
Shinjuku, as much as you dislike walking through heavy crowds and it's bustle of living, you were grateful that the nightlife had given you a sense of comfort to be able to walk around at this hour to find some convenience food. You wave to a few of your neighbors as you slipped through the long hallway and entered the elevator, only to spot a figure coming forward and you placed a hand over the side panel for the man to enter.
"Thanks Y/n," He tells you, catching his breath when he enters and you give him a polite nod. You didn't really know him that well, only that he was two doors to your left and had only minimal interactions with, greetings and small talk. He was always... odd, to put it lightly, but nothing alarming enough that you'd stop being polite.
The elevator descends and you were starting to think you should've just starved in your apartment by how the silence inside the confined space felt suffocating. When you turn your eyes to glance over where he stands, his eyes were already on you.
"...Late night walk?" You asked him, trying to ease your mind from how alert you had suddenly gotten, he stands beside you and you can tell he tries to shift closer. You leaned your body away subtly.
"You could say that, yeah." He answers back, smiling, and it doesn't help that you can find yourself being unease of how unnerving it is. "You?"
"Just grabbing dinner with a few friends," You lied easily through your teeth, your hands in the pocket of your school skirt and your fingers find themselves to clutch around the set of keys inside. "Something about a new café that's open till midnight."
His smile widens, almost as if in mockery, jarring. "You're lying, aren't you?" He asked, the tone of his voice shifts and you can feel the hairs in the back of your neck to rise. "I know you don't hang out with people."
You finally turned your head to him, trying to maintain a composed look but the shaky voice betrays you completely. "What?" You asked him, disbelieved in what you heard and you prayed your mind was playing with you.
"What?" He repeats it before a chuckle escapes his lips, leaning closer to the point you step back and he has you cornered. "Don't lie to me, Y/n. I know you like the back of my hand."
'What the fuck?' Your mind repeatedly echoes, your eyes widen and you can't feel your own limbs in attempts to move. Your mouth tries to speak, trying to mask your fear as your shaky voice echoes through the small space. "What do you mean?"
"You're such a cute girl, Y/n..." He whispers and his hand brushes against your arm, causing you to jolt your arm but he takes a harsh grab on your wrist and he tightens his fingers around it. "Really cute, I'm sad that you've never noticed me... You know that we're soulmates, right? I've prayed for someone like you and here you are."
In your mind, you grimace, now alerted and tensed in fear as you can feel his free hand run a light graze over your other arm, as if coaxing you to agree in your situation and you find yourself to have pushed him off harshly that his back hits the opposite wall of where you were pinned, glaring. "Are you crazy? Don't come any closer!"
He seems to not mind that, if anything, his eyes seemed to have widen more and his hands began to twitch, reaching over his back pocket and you were beginning to dread for the worse. "I don't even know you." You tell him, hands reaching over for both your keys and flip phone as you kept your eyes on him. Your fingers placing the three keys in between them while the other flips your phone open to click on your contacts.
"But I know you!" He says back, the same jarring smile in his face as he steps closer, "We're meant to be! The moment I saw you across the street was the start of our destiny!"
The elevator dings and the panel opens, giving you the chance to run as you make your way out of the small space, the echoes of your steps echoes and you can hear his just behind you. "Don't run!" You hear him and your feet moves a bit quicker.
Your hands were shaking, fumbling onto the keypad of your phone as you find the contact of your guardian to press call, only for the item to fall from your grasp when a heavy weight pushes you down to the ground, the small walkway of the apartment building that's mere meters away to the busy street mocks you as you can feel the man above you pant, his hands planted flat on your back to keep you on the ground. "Fine."
You can hear something unsheathing and the fear inside you begin to take over your whole body. "If I can't have you in this life, I'll have you in another way." You hear him, the smile in his tone was evident and you tilt your head back to see a glint of shine in his hand. "You think I would continue my life without you? I love you!"
You move your body before he raises his arm and the stab over your back was avoided by the knife digging into your forearm, a scream of pain leaves your throat but you hold through and push him off you, causing him to stumble from his straddle and he lands on his side. "Lunatic!" You scream at him, your feet shuffles to back away from where he is before standing up quickly to run to where your phone had been tossed, a hand clenching over the wound in your arm.
You could hear him get up, making his way to you slowly as if he had no fear, as if he held your fate in his dirty hands. "Don't try and save yourself, it'll be over quick, I promise." He tells you, the echo of his foot steps draws out the panic in you as you finally took ahold of your phone, dialing call before you let out a choked gasp when the sharp blade of the kitchen knife impales into the middle of your back.
You fall, a burning sensation consumes your upper body and your legs fail to keep you up, he takes the knife back before stabbing through your skin again and the throbbing pain coming from your back makes your arms shake as you reach over for your fallen phone, you can faintly hear your guardian ask you what was going on. Your arm slumps and he shifts his hands on your shoulders to flip you over to your back, the knife abandoned under him and the last sight was his disgusting grin. His mouth was moving but the ringing in your ear mutes him and your breathing grows heavier.
Your vision blurs, grasping at the small consciousness you had left in you and the sudden feeling of what seems to be entering your wounds consumes your sense, as if entering your body to consume your insides while a faint glow of light appears in the corner of your eye. Your body begins to twitch and you gasp for air, eyes close and your mind registers that something is entering your system before you hear a loud bellow from the man standing in front of you and your conscious slips.
