The Addams family was a peculiar one. Their kooky way of living was feared by most. Yet little Wednesday Addams adored her family. She thought the best of all its members and cherished everyone. She mostly admired her father, Gomez Addams, he was the world to her, and enjoying time with him was her favorite part of the day.
From morning to night, her father and mother filled her day with fun activities and learning opportunities. She even enjoyed winding down at the end of her activity-packed day with her father’s bedtime stories, which were usually filled with monsters and witches galore.
So, one day, when Wednesday was 6, Gomez surprised her with a new tale that she would begin to love...
“The Addams family curse.” He emphasized with his hands.
Wednesday’s eyes widened with curiosity. “What is that father?”
“It is a curse as old as time, my little one.” Gomez said, “Would you like to hear it?”
“Affirmative, father! I would enjoy it!” Little Wednesday wiggled into her bedsheets sinking in and getting ready for her father’s story.
“Very well, my little storm cloud. It all started with our eldest known relative, Theodore. He was the first to fall victim to the curse.” Gomez told her dramatically.
Wednesday’s deep chocolate eyes gleamed with interest, “Was it gruesome, Father? Did his head fall off?”
“Worse!” Gomez clapped, “His heart was snatched by a wicked woman and was never returned…”
Wednesday flashed him a big dimpled smile, one of her front teeth had recently fallen off, giving her a cute look.
Gomez smiled at his daughter with love and continued, “Yes! The curse took his soul, free will, and heart the day they met. It has happened to each and every one of us since that horrid day…”
“What happens, father? How does the curse work?” She asked with a slight whistle in her tone.
“It starts off slow, you can barely notice it, then it starts bleeding out of your heart and into your bloodstream, making you do unthinkable things, you become unrecognizable, eventually giving into the curse or going mad if you dare resist it…” Gomez gestured with hands, dramatizing his every word.
“Woah! Did you ever fall victim to the family curse?” Wedneday asked stoically.
Gomez smiled and nodded slowly, “I have…and I feel it flowing through my veins every single day of my life…it shall be this way until my heart stops beating and my flesh joins the ground…”
Wednesday frowned, “How can you live with it Father?”
“I accepted my fate! And wouldn't have it any other way!” Gomez beamed as Morticia entered the room, “How could I not with your mother by my side to wither with me?” He kissed his wife’s hand.
“Ew! I'm going to sleep! You guys are gross!” She turned around, folding her arms at her chest, hiding away from her parents.
Morticia smiled, walking up to Wednesday’s bed and tucked her in. “I hope your dreams are filled with monsters and curses, my little spider. Dreadful night.” She kissed her daughter’s cheek, as did Gomez, leaving her to sleep.
…
Some time had passed since that story was first told. Wednesday had asked her father to tell her about all the family members that had fallen ill to the curse in detail and cherished each and every one.
When she turned 11, she realized what the curse really entailed and it disgusted her deeply. She vowed to never fall victim to the curse, doing everything in her power to avoid it, keeping mostly to herself, not willing to form any type of connection and cruelly chase it away if it ever showed its creepy face...
She had been successful for most of her pre-teen and teen years.
When she turned 15, she was sent to Nevermore and something shifted in her own little world…
The feeling of disgust and vile sour taste she got in her mouth the moment she saw her pastel-colored roommate was thick and highly immanent.
“Howdy, roomie!” Enid said cheerfully, bouncing towards her excitedly.
“Wednesday this is Enid Sinclair.” Principle Weems introduced her.
“Are you feeling ok? You look a little pale.” Enid stated worryingly.
Wednesday was glued to her spot, her eyes stared at Enid, her mouth slightly agape with surprise.
“Wednesday always looks half dead,” Gomez answered for his daughter.
“Oh.” Enid exhaled, “Welcome to Ophelia Hall!” She extended her arms and eagerly took an energetic step towards Wednesday, going in for a hug.
Wednesday flinched, taking a step back, glaring at her with pure shock.
“Not a hugger. Got it!” Enid replied happily.
“Please excuse Wednesday. She's allergic to color.” Morticia apologized with elegance.
“Oh, wow! What happens to you?” Enid asked curiously.
Wednesday blinked once, feeling a tingle flow through her body, “I break out into hives and then the flesh peels off my bones.” She replied flatly.
Enid looked at her with awe, she felt a mix of curiosity and fear towards her new roommate.
“Enid, please take Wednesday to the registrar’s office to pick up her uniform and schedule. Also, give her a tour along the way.” Principle Weems ordered.
Enid nodded happily as Wednesday turned around to glare at her parents. Her eyes were full of pure hatred towards them.
…
Wednesday had just finished playing Paint it Black on her cello after a long, unsuccessful day when Enid walked out to their shared balcony.
“How the hell did you get that oversized violin out the window?” Enid asked.
“I had an extra hand,” Wednesday replied cooly as Thing waved at Enid.
“Woah. Where is the rest of him?” Enid asked, she scrunched her face in disgust.
“It is one of the great Addams family mysteries,” Wednesday answered as she put her bow away.
Howls could be heard at a distance. Wednesday stared at Enid up and down. Bats fluttered in her stomach yet she didn't know why. “Why are you not wolfing out?”
Enid looked at her with a glint of sadness in her eyes, “Because I can't.” She unsheathed her colorful claws. “It’s all I got.” She said, her tone sad as she walked towards the balcony edge.
They shared a moment, Enid telling her how she was a late bloomer and Wednesday feeling a strange pull of trust, opening her heart and telling her about Nero.
“Tears do not fix anything…so I vowed to never do it again…” Wednesday said as she stared ahead into the night.
Enid turned to look at her with compassion, “Your secret is safe with me.”
Wednesday's heart skipped a beat, making her eye Enid.
“I still think you're weird as shit though,” Enid added playfully.
“The feeling is incredibly mutual,” Wednesday replied glaring at her.
When they walked back inside, Wednesday felt odd… She couldn't explain it, she didn't know what she was feeling.
…
Days went by and Wednesday grew restless. This feeling she had inside kept growing and it was beginning to become an issue. She was a loner, never needed anyone yet here she was taking orders from Enid, listening to her advice, obliging to her requests, defending her honor…
“What is wrong with me?” She asked one day. It was her writing time and she couldn't keep going past the first page.
Thing shrugged his thumb and index at her, “What do you mean?” He tapped.
Wednesday stood up and huffed in frustration, “I feel…what is it that I feel?” She paced around the room.
Thing tiled his body in question, “Is this about Enid?”
Wednesday stopped dead in her tracks. She turned on her heel and glared at Thing, “What are you going at?”
Thing shuddered, “I think…No, I know it has something to do with Enid. Is it..the curse?” He tapped carefully.
Wednesday threw a book straight at Thing, knocking him off balance. He ran away through the pipes knowing he had struck a nerve.
Wednesday glared at the pipe, narrowing her eyes, “Stupid appendage. Coward!” She yelled.
Enid walked into the dorm, skipping towards her side of the room. “Howdy, roomie! Was that Thing?” She asked dropping her backpack near her desk.
Wednesday’s face felt warm, her hands tingled and shook slightly. She fisted her hands by her sides to stop them from shaking, “Affirmative, we were…talking and he left mid-conversation…” She deadpanned.
Enid walked to the middle of the room, Wednesday automatically joining her. “Well, I'm glad…I kinda need your help for tonight.” Enid said shyly.
Wednesday blinked, her stomach flipping, “How so?” She said in a low tone.
“I finally have a date with Ajax!” Enid said excitedly, bouncing on her tiptoes.
Wednesday felt like she was hit with a ton of bricks. “And that involves me, how?”
Enid gave her a soft smile making her heart beat a little bit stronger, “I need you to help me choose an outfit, silly!”
Wednesday narrowed her eyes and turned to walk away back to her now-forgotten typewriter. Her hands hovered over the keys not really typing anything relevant… Her focus was solely on the heat that was creeping up her back towards her neck. She heard shuffling and clothes hangers scratching on their metal rod, after a while of typing something that was not part of her novel, she heard Enid clear her throat.
“Too much?” Enid asked cautiously.
Wednesday turned in her seat slowly and looked at Enid. Her breath caught in her throat and she felt her face flush, she turned away quickly, “I feel like you just napalmed me, Enid.” She sighed.
“I'm so glad I have my date with Ajax tonight,” Enid announced joyfully.
Wednesday grimaced and scowled at the idea. Anger was bubbling under her skin. Acid pouring down her stomach. “You are going to be late.”
“Wish me luck!” Enid said in a happy tone.
“If he breaks your heart, I shall nail-gun his,” Wednesday answered dryly, kicking herself mentally for letting the words escape her mouth.
Enid frowned, biting her lower lip in silent question. She walked out of their shared room once the click-clater of Wednesday’s typewriter started again.
Wednesday sighed as the door closed behind Enid. “What are you doing to me…?”
…
Enid’s date with Ajax was a huge mysterious fiasco. She was heartbroken but accepted Lucas’s invitation to the Rave’N to make him jealous.
Wednesday hadn't intended to attend the frivolous dance yet there she was, walking down the steps into the grand hall, her beautiful black dress accentuating her features.
Enid was at the base of the stairs. She was taken aback when she saw Wednesday walking down with the same grace she had seen Morticia do. She was mesmerized by her roommate’s beauty, staring bluntly at her with awe.
Wednesday spotted Enid immediately, her heart started beating frantically in her chest, wanting to break out of her ribcage. Her veins were pulsing with passion. She blinked, took a deep breath, and tried to calm her all-betraying heart.
She walked towards the punch bowl as she saw Enid coming her way.
“OMG! I love the look!” Enid said enthusiastically.
Wednesday blushed lightly at the comment, “You…you do not look bad yourself.” She managed to answer back.
“So, interesting choice of date...” Enid glared at Tyler from afar.
Wednesday titled her head, “Was she, jealous?” She thought. “No, that cannot be.”
“I could say the same,” Wednesday replied, staring daggers at Lucas.
“It’s not what it looks like.” Enid blushed, dismissing Wednesday’s concerns. “He wants to make his ex jealous and I want to make…Ajax is jealous so… it's a win-win.” She smiled fondly at Wednesday.
“You are only managing to make me…” Wednesday caught herself thinking. She pushed the thought to the back of her head. “That pilgrim already has two strikes in my book.” Anger was once again flowing through her body.
Enid gave her a soft smile. Wednesday could lose herself in those beautiful ocean-blue eyes… “Not this again…” she thought. “Enjoy your night Enid.” She turned on her heel and walked to Tyler.
Enid stood still, eyeing Wednesday up and down. “She’s so… weird…” She giggled, turning back to Lucas.
…
Parents' weekend rolled around. Wednesday was flustered, and frantic. She hadn't had a normal day since she…since these strange feelings began. She wanted to ask her father about it but couldn't conjure the words…the fact that he was arrested didn't help her either.
She decided to visit her father in jail that day. She needed her questions answered.
“Father, you are looking dreadfully colorful.” Wednesday greeted her father with a look of distaste.
“My little storm cloud. You came to seek me.” Gomez replied with joy.
“Indeed for I have some…questions…” Wednesday stated, looking down at the space in front of her.
Gomez looked at his daughter, “What is on your mind, child?”
Wednesday felt a fowl taste in her mouth, she swallowed thinking of what to say, “Father…I believe I have fallen ill to the…Addams Family curse…” She flinched as the words poured out of her mouth.
Gomez’s eyes widened with glee, he clapped his hands over his mouth, “Oh my precious deathtrap! That is great news! Although I must admit, the curse is but a myth…”
Wednesday snapped her head up to look at her father with shock, “What?! So…how…what am I feeling?”
Gomez smiled at her sweetly, “Love, my darling. The curse isn’t real! It was just a bedtime story! We do not suffer such fate due to some ancient curse. What you are feeling is but pure, unaltered, love. ” He laughed, he had tears in his eyes.
Wednesday rolled her eyes at her father and scowled, “That cannot be! I…No! I shall not accept it! This…is a curse and I will not succumb to it whatsoever!” She stood, slamming her hands on the glass dividing them.
“It is but a myth mija…Who is the lucky…person? Do they know?” Gomez clapped his hands with the energy of a madman.
Wednesday glared daggers at her father, “Why would you lie to me? All those years! I believe you…I believed in the curse! I believed I could fight it, avoid it at all costs!”
“Oh, but love is the strongest of curses. You will slowly fall mad into it. This is true.” Gomez replied stoically.
“I refuse! I shall not fall in love…ever! Even if she…” Wednesday stopped herself from speaking more.
Gomez beamed, his smile wide and unhinged. “My little storm cloud…you have made your father proud.”
“Time’s up!” The guard yelled, walking behind Gomez and pulling him away.
“Say hello to your roommate for me! She will surely make a great addition to our family one day!” Gomez yelled at his daughter, chuckling hard.
Wednesday was at a loss for words…
…
Enid noticed Wednesday had become irritated and jumpy lately but couldn't understand why. It felt like she was purposely trying to avoid her. Which was why she was determined to make her birthday memorable…
The only positive thing going on in Wednesday’s life right now was the mystery about the Hyde. It helped keep her mind focused on something other than this ever-growing feeling towards…her roommate…
Her 16th birthday went down with another vision. It didn't help waking up with Enid holding her. She flinched and scurried away from her touch, “I'm sorry. I know you like your space but…I couldn't let you hit the floor like that…” Enid excused herself nervously.
Wednesday’s legs began to shake slightly, “Oh to give in to…” “No!” She shook the thoughts from her head. This was getting out of hand…
They went back to their dorm in a strange comfortable silence. Enid went to her side of the room, as Wednesday went to hers deep in thought, “Did Enid even feel the same towards her? Could someone like Enid ever love someone as cold and dry as her?” She was pulled from her thoughts by Enid walking to her side.
“I have something for you…” Enid handed her a present wrapped in black paper, looking at her with so much…it couldn't be…
Wednesday unwrapped the gift swiftly and pulled out something black and fluffy, staring at it not really knowing what it was.
“Well, do you like it?” Enid asked with joy.
“What is it exactly?” Wednesday replied.
“It’s a snood, silly! I made it in your signature colors! And you want to know what the best part is? Enid was vibrating with excitement.
Wednesday's heart clutched in her chest, she was at hand’s reach…if only shed close the gap between them…
“I have one too!” Enid’s voice snapped Wednesday from her musing. “We can wear them together to class!”
Wednesday blinked, she didn't know what to say. She had never received anything handmade by someone other than her family. Her mouth felt dry and her voice came out raspy, “Enid…this is far too unique to wear to something like class…” She regretted her words when she saw Enid’s face fall. She panicked, looking for the right thing to say to mend her mistake, “I…suggest we wait for a more special occasion…like a funeral.” Enid looked confused but nodded either way. Wednesday thought she did a good job in praising her. She did enjoy funerals after all and going to one wearing her snood would make her…happy…
...
Wednesday felt even more enamored when she saw Enid’s display of strength when she broke the door open to the Gates mansion. She vowed to protect her at all costs. She would never let anything bad happen to her…roommate, even if it cost her to lose her snood to keep her safe…
The pin dropped and acceptance crept into her heart and soul when she looked into Enid’s wolf’s eyes full of love… She loved her back and was willing to sacrifice her life for her… This was all the proof she needed to let the damn break, love flowing all through her body…
Enid was surprised when she could finally wolf out. She would have never guessed that her strong desire to keep Wednesday safe pulled her wolf out of her…That is when she knew, Wednesday Addams was her mate…She howled into the night after defeating the Hyde for her mate…
Their reunion was imminent, Enid asked for Wednesday to the crowd, “Where's Wednesday?” She had to tell her, she needed her to know but mostly she needed Wednesday to be alive. Panic struck when no one replied back…fear filled her body and it ran cold through her veins until she saw her in the distance. “Wednesday…” She sighed in relief. She ran with all the strength she had left in her despite her injuries.
Her body slammed right into Wednesday’s taking her into a rough hug.
Wednesday was shocked at the sudden contact. She couldn't believe Enid was in her arms. She pulled back to asses any damage to her…roommate. Her face was covered in blood. Wednesday couldn't tell if it was hers or Tyler’s. She looked at a teary-eyed Enid who gave her a pleaded sob…it broke her heart to see her paramour suffer. She pulled her back in and felt Enid wrap her arms strongly into her. She closed her eyes and melted into Enid’s embrace. She would die for her but mostly she would live for her…
…
Wednesday had accepted her fate. Curse or no curse, she was deeply and madly in love with her pastel-colored roommate, and to her surprise her love was corresponded by Enid.
“The mark you have left on me is indelible,” Wednesday confessed. “I have nothing but love for you and I wish for you to be my paramour, from now until forever. If you would have me.”
Enid’s eyes filled with tears of happiness. Her heart swelled 3 sizes and she felt so much love for her mate, “Yes! Forever yes! You, Wednesday Addams, are my mate. I couldn't live without you even if I wanted to.” She beamed, pulling Wednesday in for a hug.
Wednesday hugged her back resting her chin on her shoulder. She only pulled away to caress the fresh scars on her face, trophies of Enid’s love and sacrifice for her. She looked at her lips and Enid closed the gap between them, sealing their love with a kiss. Forever…
