Work Text:
Kagehira Mika did not believe in gods. If they ever existed, they probably left the Earth and left people many, many years ago.
Because in the world where Micah was born, there was no place for hope. Aliens who came from the depths of space destroyed human civilization, and it fell. The monsters captured the surviving people, turning them into their pets - funny, defenseless toys with which you can do anything. The aliens did not have a soul or any feelings, and therefore their cruelty knew no bounds.
But the aliens also did not have something else - voices. The inarticulate wheezing sounds that the aliens made could not compare with human speech. Since childhood, Mika was gifted with a very good voice - he did not know whether he was lucky or not when his owner sent him to prepare for a show where people competed in singing. They competed for life and death. Perhaps Kagehira should have been happy with his fate, since his master could have simply killed him without ceremony. Mika was a quiet, aloof boy. His dull, multi-colored eyes always looked at everything with the same indifference - and his own vocal abilities were no exception.
Mika didn't care. He didn't feel anything. He was just a weak-willed puppet.
This was the case until one certain moment.
One day, at one of the rehearsals, Mika heard the voice of an unfamiliar pink-haired boy and suddenly realized that he had found the meaning of life. It was the most beautiful, most mesmerizing and melodious voice he had ever heard. This voice was different from the others - discordant and trembling, belonging to frightened and depressed small children. And the one to whom this voice belonged enjoyed it, was proud, raising his chin high.
He wasn't afraid.
And at that moment Mika stopped feeling like an insensitive doll. The world blossomed with new, bright colors that the boy could not even imagine; Flashes of light lit up in his yellow-blue eyes.
Mika now had a purpose; now he knew what he wanted.
He wants to listen to this voice forever. He wants to sing along with him.
Mika later learns that the one who gave him the meaning of life is Itsuki Shu. His God, his savior. His universe.
Soon the boys became close. They started spending a lot of time together. More precisely, it was necessary, because Mika, a devoted puppy, followed Shu everywhere he went. And no matter how many rude words Itsuki rained down on him, no matter how many times he pushed him away, no matter how many times he said that his voice was terrible, Kagehira continued to look at him with endless admiration and love.
Mika really got his wish - now on the stage in front of a crowd of faces twisted in thirst for the upcoming spectacle, only the two of them stood. And it doesn’t matter that in a few seconds the song that will decide their fate will begin, it doesn’t matter that this will be the last song that Mika will sing - the next three minutes will be the happiest, the most unforgettable in his life.
Kagehira Mika knows he will lose. But now he is absolutely sure that God exists. And he's not afraid. Mika has nothing to regret - he will spend his last moments listening to the voice that he loves, loves so much, loves until his chest hurts.
Mika always looked at Shu with endless admiration. This admiration will never disappear from his eyes, even in the last minutes of his life.
