Work Text:

Katsuki was a planner. He had his whole life planned, graduate UA with honors, start working at a top-tier agency like Endeavor’s, rise the ranks, start his own agency, become number one, and don’t die tragically young–again. He knew the plan, he understood the plan, and he was happy with the plan, but then a dumbass, fake redhead had to enter his life and Katsuki caught the disease that was romantic feelings.

That was not part of the plan, if anything, it would ruin the plan. Katsuki did everything in his power to get rid of his feelings, but the more he ran the harder it hit when they caught up, because they always caught up to him. Eventually, he gave up, and that was because Eijirou had confessed to feelings of his own.

It wasn’t even intentional, Eijirou was talking about a flyer he saw on the community board at some coffee shop. It was a couple’s night market and he told Katsuki he would love to take him there on a date. Eijirou hadn’t even realized what he’d said until Katsuki agreed.

Their date was… awkward to put it lightly. Katsuki still wasn’t used to the whole ‘touching people thing’ and Eijirou could barely look at him without his face turning redder than his hair. Still, they went and had a good enough time to give it another try.

Their second date was a lot more casual, some wouldn’t even consider a date. They decided to hit the gym early for a sunrise workout, they had a blast. No one else was around so Eijirou blasted his music and Katsuki was free to shout along to the words as loud as he wanted. An hour later they were dripping with sweat but couldn’t shake their smiles for the rest of the day.

It took eight dates for Katsuki to officially ask Eijirou to be his boyfriend. He wanted to ask sooner but according to an article he read he should wait at least a month so he waited. Katsuki ended up reading a lot of articles, this was uncharted territory and he didn’t like stumbling around in the dark. Research gave him much needed clarity, though sometimes their advice left him even more confused.

Kissing is what left him the most confused. Every article he read gave a different timeline, and that was even if they posted a timeline at all, but the general consensus seemed to be: ✨ do it when it feels right ✨ which was terrible advice, clearly Katsuki didn’t know when the right moment was, that’s why he was researching in the first place! That left them in their current situation, coming in on nearly a year of dating and they still hadn’t had their first kiss.

Eijirou didn’t seem remotely into kissing, so that certainly didn’t help matters. Surely if he were interested he would’ve tried by now, or given Katsuki some of the signs he’d read about in one of his many articles, but nope nothing. The whole thing was making his head spin, why did it all have to be so complicated? Why couldn’t there just be a set plan they could both follow, problem solved.

Could they even say they were dating at this point? Like nothing more than hand holding and cuddling happened and they were already sort of doing that when they were just friends. Was this Eijirou’s way of silently telling him that he didn’t want to date Katsuki anymore? No point in taking things to the next level if they were just going to break up soon, but why now? They’d been dating for nearly a year, surely Eijirou would’ve known a lot sooner if he didn’t want to be in a relationship with Katsuki. Maybe Eijirou was just humoring Katsuki, keeping him around because it would be too hard to replace his study buddy and gym spotter, and who else would make Eijirou’s favorite meals? Perfectly. Every time. No one, that’s who. Maybe it was a little conceded of Katsuki but Eijirou found himself a catch and he would be hard fucking pressed to find someone better.

Katsuki didn’t realize he was strewing in his irritation until someone lightly brushed his arm. Not just someone, Eijirou, Katsuki melted a little as Eijirou grabbed his hand and gave it a small squeeze.

“Are you ok? You’re tense.”

“I’m always tense,” Katsuki said, rolling his eyes.

“I can massage your hands,” Eijirou offered.

Katsuki smiled and nodded. Ever since Eijirou found out how sore Katuski’s hands got from his quirk he’d been giving him hand massages. Eijirou had even bought a special lotion that smelled of lavender. Katsuki always felt like a puddle when Eijirou was done. He never feels more docile than when Eijirou did this, and he was sure he’d put a bullet between anyone’s eyes if they ever had the misfortune of ever finding out, this side of him was exclusively reserved for Eijirou.

Katsuki watched as Eijirou grabbed the lotion that he kept in his nightstand while Katsuki settled himself on the bed. Eijirou climbed up next to him, sitting criss-cross-applesauce in between his outstretched legs, and Katsuki saw as Eijirou squirted a small dollop of lotion onto his hand, before reaching for Katsuki’s left.

Eijirou always massaged his hands the same way, starting with the left hand. He coated Katsuki’s entire hand in lotion before working into the smaller parts. First were the fingers, next the back of Katsuki’s hand, then the wrist, and finally the palm. Eijirou would end it by stretching out the muscles then moving onto the right.

Katsuki gazed at Eijirou, who was focusing so intently on his hands that his tongue was sticking out a little, and Katsuki couldn’t help smiling as he melted into the pillows and headboard. Eijirou was one of the most adorable people on the planet. His eyes fluttered close as Eijirou started to massage his right hand.

“What’s wrong?” Eijirou asked suddenly, his voice quiet.

Katsuki cracked an eye open and raised his brow. Eijirou wasn’t meeting his gaze, instead continuing to work on Katsuki’s hand.

“Nothing’s wrong, what makes you think something’s wrong?”

“You’ve just seemed a little… nervous lately? I don’t know, you seem off.”

“I’m fine.”

“I don’t believe you,” Eijirou countered immediately.

“Believe whatever you want, that’s the truth.”

The tension returned to Katsuki’s body and he pulled his hand away from Eijirou, or tried to at least. Eijirou was quick to take it again and encase Katsuki’s hand in his own. Eijirou’s eyebrows were pinched with worry and it made Katsuki’s stomach sink. Whenever Eijirou looked worried or sad like that it felt like the sun was slipping behind rain clouds.

“Please Kat, talk to me. Tell me what’s wrong, I want to help!” Eijirou insisted.

Katsuki bit the inside of his cheek as he avoided Eijirou’s gaze. He had no idea where to even start, Eijirou sat before him, ever the saint as he was, Eijirou waited for Katsuki to find the right words.

“Do you even like dating me?”

Katsuki should find the nearest cliff to jump off of, it would probably hurt less than looking at Eijirou’s expression. Eijirou couldn’t hide the pain from his face even if he wanted to. He looked to be holding back tears and Katsuki started word vomiting to rectify the situation.

“No, I don’t mean it like that. I just- I don’t know sometimes I wonder if we’re even a couple! No wait, that’s not what I mean, we just don’t act all that different from how we were as friends. So I’m just left wondering why we’re dating at all, hell it’s been almost a year and we haven’t even fucking kissed yet! Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do?”

Katsuki was pacing at this point, he seemed to burn holes in the carpet with how fast he was walking, back, forth, back, forth, back, forth. Eijirou just sat there, looking like a kicked puppy and when Katsuki caught a glimpse of him he stopped dead in his tracks.

“It kinda seems like you don’t like dating me much,” Eijirou finally whispered, looking at his lap.

Katsuki’s eyes widened. “What? No! I like dating you!”

“You just said it feels the same as when we were friends!”

“Because it does, we’re doing all the same things we did as friends. But I like dating you, I like calling you my boyfriend.”

“So then why are you bringing all of this up?” Eijirou demanded.

“Because I need to know how you feel about it!” Katsuki shot back. “Because I need to know if we’re on the same page or not because it’s been nearly a year and you haven’t even kissed me yet!”

Katsuki froze, realizing what he’d just said. His face burned with embarrassment and he took a step back to bolt from the room, but Eijirou knew him too well and stood in front of the door and Katsuki knew better than to try and jump off the balcony. He’d be fine since he could practically fly due to his explosions but Eijirou would tackle him to the ground before he could make it the short distance.

Once Eijirou realized that Katsuki wasn’t going to run, he took a step closer and pulled Katsuki to sit down next to him on the bed. Eijirou grabbed Katsuki’s hand and laced their fingers together, staring at their joined hands. Katsuki barely breathed as he waited for Eijirou to gather his thoughts.

“Just so we’re clear, I want to kiss you. I’ve been wanting to kiss you long before we started dating,” Eijirou admitted to their hands.

Katsuki gawked at the confession. “But- but then why didn’t you?”

“Because I was scared,” Eijirou shrugged with a sad smile. “And I thought… well it seemed like you didn’t wanna kiss. Like you were waiting for something. I didn’t want to pressure you into doing something you weren’t comfortable with so I didn’t bring it up.”

“I was waiting,” Katsuki whispered.

“Waiting for what?”

Katsuki shrugged stupidly. “I dunno, the right moment.”

“The right moment?”

“There’s supposed to be a right moment, that’s what all the articles said. They said to wait for the right moment because then you’ll know and-”

“Articles? You were reading articles on kissing?”

Eijirou took one look at Katsuki and then laughed incredulously.

“You know I can’t even say I’m surprised,” He said with a teasing smirk.

“Shut up!” Katsuki laughed, shoving Eijirou away who was still chuckling. “I wanted to research this, get a better understanding of dating and shit. I don’t like not knowing things.”

“You’re such a nerd,” Eijiro giggled.

“I am not!”

“Yes, you are!”

“Am not!”

“Are too!”

Katsuki couldn’t keep going, he was laughing so hard. They’d begun shoving each other, it was light at first but then it turned into full on wrestling. They fell off the bed with a thump but neither seemed to mind as they continued to grapple, trying to find the advantage. Eventually, Eijirou pinned Katsuki’s wrists above him and he straddled Katsuki to use his body weight to keep him down.

They stared at each other as they tried to get their breathing under control. Katsuki could feel Eijirou’s weight on top of him, it was comforting. Eijirou’s hands slid from Katsuki’s wrist to his hands and he leaned down slightly to rest his forehead against Katsuki’s.

“Hey, Kat?” Eijirou breathed.

“Yeah?”

“This… this kinda feels like the right moment, right?”

“Yeah, it kinda does.”

Eijirou leaned back to look into Katsuki’s eye. “Then… can I kiss you?”

Katsuki bit his lip, suddenly nervous. He had no reason to be, he’d been waiting months for this but now that it was finally here? Katsuki wanted to flee. He swallowed thickly and slowly nodded once.

“You don’t have to say yes if you’re uncomfortable,” Eijirou was quick to say.

“I’m not uncomfortable, it’s just… I don’t want it to be bad,” he muttered.

Eijirou smiled at Katsuki as if he were the most precious thing in the entire universe. “First kisses are always bad, that’s how it’s supposed to be.”

“So you won’t laugh?” Katsuki asked timidly.

“No, I’ll probably laugh, but so will you.”

Katsuki huffed even though he knew Eijirou was right. He stared into Eijirou’s eyes, he’d never seen eyes so kind before, and Katsuki couldn’t help smiling as he nodded, squeezing Eijirou’s hand in assurance. Eijirou leaned down and pressed his lips against Katsuki’s.

Eijirou was right, it was a bad kiss. Their noses bumped against each other and seemed to get in the way, Katsuki was stiff as hell, and Eijrou’s teeth caught on Katsuki’s lip and split it open. Eijirou quickly pulled back, a slew of apologies already leaving his lips. Katsuki heard none of it, however, as his mind could only focus on one thing and one thing alone. He’d just kissed Eijirou. Holy shit, he’d just kissed Eijirou!

Katsuki couldn’t stop smiling like an idiot and he sat up quickly, unbalancing Eijirou who crashed to the ground. Katsuki didn’t help him up, quite the opposite actually, now it was him on top straddling Eijirou’s body.

This time Katsuki didn’t let himself overthink it, he just let his instincts guide him. Katsuki grabbed Eijirou’s face and leaned down to kiss him, this time tilting his head slightly so their noses didn’t get in the way. The angle made things instantly better and once Eijirou got over his shock and kissed Katsuki back, Katsuki felt like he was soaring above the clouds. It was sweet and innocent in the way only a first kiss could be. Neither of them knew what to do yet they didn’t let the fear keep them from trying.

It took them a second to find a rhythm but they’d been a team for years and their bodies soon synced up to one another. Eijirou’s arms wrapped around Katsuki’s neck, keeping him close - not that Katsuki intended to part from Eijirou any time soon.

Katsuki quickly learned his favorite part about kissing was tasting Eijirou. It was a taste he couldn’t even begin to describe it was so innately Eijirou and Katsuki didn’t think he’d ever get enough of it, he’d let the air run out of his lungs, all to take away Eijirou’s.

When they finally, and very reluctantly, pulled apart they were breathing harder than when they’d been wrestling a few moments earlier. Neither of them could stop smiling like maniacs as they just stared at each other. Eijirou sat up and tenderly threaded his fingers into Katsuki’s hair, pulling him to rest his forehead against his own. Katsuki’s eyes slipped shut in contentment as he listened to Eijirou’s heart beating.

“That was nice,” Eijirou whispered sheepishly.

“That was more than nice,” Katsuki agreed. “I can’t believe it took us so long to do that.”

“Well someone was waiting for the perfect moment,” Eijirou teased.

“And someone was too scared to initiate,” Katsuki quipped back.

They both giggled but it was cut off by another kiss. Now that the floodgates had opened Katsuki was never going to deny himself the pleasure of Eijirou again.
