Chapter Text
The first rays of sunlight slipped out from behind the horizon, filling the bedroom with a warm gleam. Planet squeezed his eyes shut to block the light out, eventually opening them with much effort. He sat up and took a second to properly wake up, his eyes widening when he noticed Spoke’s bed across the room was empty.
“Spoke?” He called out, rubbing his eyes and standing up. He got a glance of himself in the mirror, stopping and taking a step back to take another look.
“Goodness.” He muttered, poorly attempting to fix his puffy hair. He grabbed a hoodie and threw it on, hiding his hair under his hood, a habit he developed as he was terrible with caring for it.
Spoke usually woke up later than Planet, which was his first concern. He walked out of the bedroom and towards the living room, His bare feet meeting the hard cold wooden floor. It was a serene contrast to the warm air that filled the house. The only thing off was its silence, a silence that Planet began to grow uncomfortable with.
“Spoke!” He called out again when noticing that the living room was empty as well, it started a small worry inside Planet’s gut. He was afraid that if left untreated it would brew into a panic. A glimpse of movement caught Planet’s eyes from behind the kitchen counter, he balled his fists as his reflexes sharpened, all remaining sleep draining and replaced by upcoming adrenaline. Dozens of unpleasant thoughts swirled in his head, what if Spoke was dead? Killed by the intruder?
He approached the connected kitchen, his eyes peeled. He let out a soft breath in anticipation before he looked behind the counter in a sharp movement. He didn’t even get a glimpse when cold water shot right in his face, taking Planet by surprise. He opened his eyes and saw Spoke sitting against the counter, giggling as he clutched his water gun.
“Spoke! You almost gave me a heart attack- I thought you were gone or hurt!” Planet said in a louder voice than he intended. Spoke looked at him for a moment before a wide grin appeared on his face again. Cold water shot at Planet again, Spoke got up and hopped over the counter, repeatedly shooting his friend.
Planet smiled as he shielded his face from the water, he felt the floor become slippery under his feet.
“Catch me if you can, moonlord!” Spoke taunted, shooting into the ceiling before rushing outside. Planet walked back into the living room and sought through the drawers, trying to find their spare water gun in order to begin the war.
Spoke ran barefoot through the soft, trimmed grass. The morning sun made their base look beautiful, Spoke always loved to find the little decorative things such as water sparkling off of the grass in the mornings. With Planet not in sight yet, he turned to the river. Light glistened off its surface, it gave Spoke a warm feeling. He quite enjoyed the peaceful life he led, farming crops and flowers, taking care of animals and villagers. It was nothing like he was used to, chaos and betrayal and destruction. This time he chose rebirth, this time things would go differently for him.
A soft smile that he subconsciously pulled faded upon noticing a boat from afar. It came right for them, and as far as Spoke saw it was a singular person. He was aware of Planet’s newfound reputation, no one dared to be in a 50 meter radius of him. Why was someone coming by now? The person in the boat had their face covered by a black cloak, making them undistinguishable. However they had seemed to notice Spoke as well, his long ears raised in alert.
The mysterious guest stopped at shore and exited the boat, approaching Spoke. He stood still in anticipation, hoping for Planet to come outside soon to help out.
“Spoke,” The stranger called out, Spoke knitted his brows and took a step back. “Long time no see, buddy.” Their voice seemed familiar and yet.. distant.
A meter between them now, Spoke turned his head for a split second to look for Planet. The stranger grasped Spoke’s face and turned it back to them, a pair of glowing purple eyes pierced through Spoke.
“I have a letter for your friend,” The stranger pushed a folded paper into Spoke’s hands.
“You’ll give it to him, won’t you?” Spoke stayed quiet. He got out of the stranger’s grip and took another step back
“Who are you and what do you want from Planet?”
“It will all make sense soon, Spoke.”
The door of their house opened, shots immediately firing. Spoke fled from the stranger, stuffing the note in his pocket. He turned back to see Planet shooting flaming arrows at the stranger, who rushed back to the boat and fled. They glanced at Spoke before they turned behind a hill and were out of sight. He sat down in the grass and stared ahead of him, they seemed so familiar. Dozens of questions dwelled in his head, he was worried for what Planet had gotten himself into.
A hand on his shoulder startled him, Planet dropped to his knees and grabbed Spoke by the shoulders, frantically looking around for any wounds.
“Are you alright? Who was that, and what did they want?” Spoke said, almost slurring his words. Spoke nodded and took Planet’s hands off of his shoulders,
“I’m okay, don’t worry. Take a breath.” He reassured, Planet looked at him before turning his head to look at the river.
“Who was it?” He asked, Spoke shrugged and looked down at the grass. The note popped back into his head, but he was curious. He would give it after he read it, it wouldn’t be that much of a deal.
“I’m okay Planet, thank you.” Spoke said, his voice gentle. He knew how to calm Planet, who often went down spirals of paranoia and worry. Planet looked back and stood up again, helping Spoke up as well. Planet himself was uncertain of Spoke’s answer, he sensed a hint of vagueness in his tone. Maybe he didn’t know who the guest was, but he knew something else.
