Work Text:

“I’m ordering takeout, Luce. What are you in the mood for?”

Lucy looked at her boyfriend tiredly, throwing the highlighter pen on the table. She hadn’t been able to focus all day with this stupid exam coming up.

“I’m not really hungry, Tim,” she said, rubbing her hands over her eyes.

“You should eat something, Baby.” Concern filled his face. He knew the pressure she was under, not only with this upcoming exam, but to keep up with everything else in her life. The least he could do was to make sure she eats.

“I’ll heat some leftover soup later. I really need to concentrate.”

He sighed and walked to where she was sitting at his dining table, notebooks, text books and more pens, pencils and highlighters than a whole office supply store all spread out in front of her. Tim kissed the top of her head, kneading her shoulders with his strong hands, trying to alleviate some of her tension. Lucy moaned in relief.

“Thank you, Babe,” she smiled up at him, wondering how she got so damned lucky to have him in her life. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Luce.” He sent her one of his best Lucy smiles and walked off to order his dinner.

Some time later, Lucy was reviewing her notes when her stomach rumbled. She groaned at her own stupidity. Stress has never been her friend and is absolutely a leading cause for her bad decision making, including her most recent error - not ordering food.

The doorbell rang as she was contemplating if the soup would be enough now that she was aware that she was hungry. Tim called out that it was the delivery guy with dinner, making Lucy grump.

She watched Tim longingly as he entered the kitchen carrying the takeout bag and setting it on the counter. Tim noticed her pout and smirked. He found her utterly adorable when she pouted.

“Are you okay, Baby?” He moved about the kitchen, pulling down a plate and arranging the dinner onto it.

“No,” she huffed. “I’m hungry now, but I don’t have food. Why couldn’t my body tell me an hour ago that I’d be hungry now?” Lucy dropped her head into to the table in frustration.

“If you could order anything right now, from any restaurant, what would it be?”

She sighed into the table, her warm breath misting across the surface.

“You know that sushi place on Le Brea that does those tempura tuna rolls? I’d get sushi and some of those,” she admitted ruefully. Her stomach rumbled again at the mere mention of the delicacy.

Tim lifted the plate in front of him, walking towards his girlfriend.

“You mean, something like this?”

Lucy lifted her head as he placed the plate in front of her, her eyes widening in surprise.

“You ordered this for me?” Tears burned behind her eyes at the gesture.

“For us. I knew you’d be hungry and since you’ve been working so hard and studying on top of that, I figured you’d want comfort food.”

Lucy stood and wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her head into his chest, letting the tears of gratitude fall.

“You always take care of me. Thank you,” she said as she sat and picked up a set of chopsticks, using them to grab the tempura roll.

“I’ve always got your six, Luce. Whether it’s at work or at home.” He took the chair next to hers and pulled sushi from the plate.

“You know me so well, better than I know myself.”

Tim reached out his hand to stroke her cheek. “Nah, I just love you.”

In that moment, Lucy Chen decided that she was a very lucky woman, and she was going to marry this man one day.
