Work Text:
Atsushi smiles slightly as he sits in the passenger seat of Akutagawa’s car, admiring his boyfriend as they drive around just because. Ever since Akutagawa managed to leave the Port Mafia, with the help of Atsushi and the agency, the pair’s favorite thing has been to just get in Akutagawa’s car and drive. They never have a plan for where or how long they will drive for.
As the radio starts playing another song from their shared playlist, Atsushi rests his head on his seat. “This is the best song..” He says as he closes his eyes.
Akutagawa chuckles. “Absolutely.”
Pärlor is the song’s name. Akutagawa and Atsushi together has it as their favorite song. It’s calming in a way, especially when they drive later on the day and they can see the sun starting to go down. It’s like a movie.
After a few minutes, Akutagawa stops the car, looking over at his boyfriend. “Here, let’s sit here for a bit.” The ex-mafioso speaks, his voice a lot softer than it was in the Port Mafia, opening his door and getting out.
Akutagawa had parked the car by a small cliff, which was more like a big rock, right before the sea. The trees surrounding them, and the sun, both reflected itself in the water. Atsushi couldn’t help but stare at the scene before actually leaving the car.
As Atsushi got out, he saw Akutagawa already sitting on the ground, staring out at the water and sundown.
“When did you start becoming so peaceful..” He mumbles softly to himself as he stares at his lover just a bit longer.
Despite their past, they’re a pretty, no- wait, very peaceful couple. It was about a year and a half since the agency had rescued Akutagawa, and ever since that day, the couple had shared a room, basically refusing to leave each other’s sides.
As they sit on the cliff, staring out at the sundown and water reflecting it, their hands intertwined, it’s like nothing else matters. The only thing that matters right here and now, is the two of them.
“Imagine having a house by the shore.. being able to sit there and watch the sundown every night..” Atsushi speaks, Akutagawa’s eyes softening at his words.
“.. maybe..” The other starts. “.. maybe we could live like that someday..” He looks up at Atsushi as he finishes. This content feeling he has is something he hasn’t experienced in a while. This is different from when they’re going on walks or cuddling. This is.. something almost magical. Or, at least it feels like it is.
“Tch.” Dazai crosses his arms as stands over the now sleeping couple. “I told them to not fall asleep outside again..” He mumbles.
Ranpo tilts his head as he looks at Atsushi and Akutagawa comfortable sleeping together while leaning on each other. He shrugs. “They’re happy at least.”
“Plus, there’s been a lot of cases recently, they must’ve been tired.” Ranpo states.
Dazai sighs. “I guess..” This wasn’t the first time the two detectives had to go find Atsushi and Akutagawa, as they’d quite often wander off by themselves. “Just.. let’s just wait until they wake up..” Dazai mutters in slight annoyance, even though he’s happy they’re safe and sound at least.
