Work Text:

“Stop pacing, thou Dunderheadǃ Go wait in the hallway, we’ll call when thee can come back in.”

The woman slammed the door closed in Arend Tyrson’s face. Dejected he sat down on the cold floor and waited. He knew better than to go against the wishes of women, even if he had always thought that this particular tradition was bullocks.

Why couldn’t he support her during these times. He was a mighty warrior, surely his Norse magic could be of some unexpected help.

Footsteps trailed down the stairs to his left, Gryffindor Tower.

“I assume it is going well, as thee is sitting here. Would some company be acceptable in these tiring times?”

Salazar sat down next to Arend when no answer came forward.

“No need to worry mine friend. Women have done this for centuries, long before magic was among us. They’ll have it under control and before long thou will hold thine child in thine arms.”

It was comforting, although Arend already knew all that. It did not make it any easier.

“I am simply anxious to meet them.”

More than anxious. He could not wait to show them the world, explore it once more through their innocent eyes.

“She did not desire to tell you? I was fairly certain a daughter would be born tonight.”

Arend hoped it was a daughter, someone like her mother would be a gift far greater than he could ever wish for. Another queen to worship as she deserved among the kings ruling the world.

“I hope, with raven hair as dark as night like her mother. The icy blue eyes of my sister and a warm and bright heart. A smile so bright it awakes the Northern Light like her mom’s. I do wish for that, even if it is out of mine hands.”

A wish list as there ever would be.

The door opened behind them and Helga slipped outside and slid down next to Arend.

“Apparently I am as useless as thee in there, though it won’t take much longer.”

Arend’s heart that had accelerated to immeasurable heights at seeing Helga exit the room, quieted down and they sat in amiable silence until the wail of a newborn soared through Hogwarts.

Neither of them waited to be allowed back in, but wrenched open the door, stumbling inside with Salazar staying away at a respectable distance.

“Rowena, thee!”

The midwife shushed them as she gave a small bundle to Rowena laying back against the massive headboard.

“Look at her, our Helena.”

And Arend did.

Oh he did.

He watched as Helga strode forwards and carefully sat down besides Rowena and taking over the child, daughter, that was born. From his place by the door he could see that her hair was indeed as black as the night in perfect copy of her mother.

Later he would hold her tight to his chest and mutter promises into her ears. Tell her she was a queen among commoners and would rule them all. She would be the brightest star of his universe, a firestone forged in flames would be the necklace forged for her. His world had been changed before, when he had decided to stay on the island.

But this.

The world would never be the same.

The brightest person he would ever have the luck to meet. Swift as the wind and creator of a destiny he could never dream of. Nothing would stop her from her hearts desire, nothing could stop her from spreading her wings and covering the whole universe with its warmth.

His queen of kings.

Notes:

For anyone who's wondering, Arend means Eagle in Dutch and is in fact a real name.

The relationships stayed between the sentences in this one, feel free to make your own conclusions as to who is involved with who. (I would love to hear your opinions regarding this)
