"I'll be seeing Dangerous Deers in a few hours at the elimination! Talk amongst yourself to figure out who you will be sending home!"
Mina's face dropped upon hearing the host's words. Even though Adeline was like a mile away, for Mina it felt like she was right here, slapping her right in the face. She lost. They lost. And now they will have to vote off one of their team members. The girl immediately got worried about her friend, knowing that Maddie's reputation wasn't the most positive one.
"Maddie-"
"Not now. I'm thinking."
The other girl replied blankly, not letting Mina get more than a word in. The black-haired girl looked over at Maddison. While at first glance, the brunette's face seemed stone-cold, there was an undeniable look of panic in her beautiful, purple eyes. That's at least how Mina would describe them.
"...You know, if we talk to them, I bet they will-"
"OH! I got it! We let Adrian take the fall!"
The shy girl blinked twice in confusion. While no one could deny that the model was largely at fault for their loss, neither she nor Maddie were guilt-free. The girl also couldn't help but ponder how exactly they were going to do that.
"Huh?"
"We're going to hide and leave him like that for the rest to find." - She pointed at his sleeping body. The boy was sleeping so hard, that if he was dead, the girls wouldn't be any wiser. - "And then we're going to come back, with some excuse, all like "Hiii we're back! Oh, we lost? How sad. Anyway, vote Adrian off."! Genius plan, I know."
While the preppy girl sounded confident in her scheme, Mina was very hesitant. In the girl's head, it wasn't fair to let Adrian be the one blamed for their loss… Even if it's kinda true. After all, she herself shouldn't even be here as she was supposed to defend their flag.
"Well- I mean, what excuse are you even going to give them?"
"I don't know, we were making out or whatever, who cares."
For a brief second, Mina was too flushed to speak. The girl quickly turned her face away from the brunette.
"UH- What?!"
Maddie just chuckled at the reaction, but her smile quickly disappeared when she heard some footsteps coming their way.
"Quick! Hide! Here they come!" - Maddison quickly started to run with Mina following shortly behind. The shy girl started falling slightly behind, and noticing it, Maddie grabbed her by the hand and dragged her behind the nearest tree. As the duo started panting from their run, the brunette smirked, seeing that her plan seemed to be working out. - "Looks like a pretty boy over there is getting quite the talking."
She chuckled to herself, visibly proud, but stopped after realizing that Mina was staring blankly into the distance.
"Huh? What's going on with you… Oh. The comment from earlier? Sorry, but don't get your hopes up, I was jk-ing."
This woke up the dark-haired girl from her state of deep thought. She started to awkwardly rub the back of her head while avoiding eye contact.
"What? No! I was just… Um, I kinda feel bad about Adrien. That's all." - The girl curled up into a ball. - "I mean, I wasn't supposed to be here with you. This loss might have been as well my fault."
The other girl just groaned and rolled her eyes at Mina's doubts.
"Good God… Girl get a grip. I mean, no offense, but I sincerely doubt, you being there and not here, would have changed anything." - She slid herself closer to her "friend". - "If it makes you feel better, I would like totally die of boredom here without you. And then the team would have lost two members instead of one, so the way I see it, you saved us from a complete failure! Good job!"
Maddie sent her a seemingly sincere-looking smile, causing Mina to chuckle a bit.
"Well… When you put it that way-"
Suddenly, the girls heard their names being mentioned in the conversation between their teammates.
"Mina and Maddie were supposed to- UGH! Where the hell are they?!"
Without another second to spare, Maddie grabbed Mina by her hand and started fast-walking towards their teammates. The brunette immediately put on a fake somber expression, while Mina kept her eyes on the ground, afraid of making any eye contact with the rest of their team.
"OMG, we were just trying to attack the bears. And then Zoey won. Sad."
The shorter girl quickly scanned through their peers. Seemed like all of them believed Maddie's lie, and the girls were left off the hook… Or at least that was the case until the attention was brought to Mina herself.
"Heeey Mina! I don't remember, but weren't you supposed to help US defend?!"
It was Hudson, the only person here who could match Maddie's level of awfulness. His words pierced through Mina, who, unlike her friend, couldn't easily bullcrap her way out of trouble. In a state of sheer panic, she started fumbling through her words.
"N-N-No! …Well- I-"
"Yeah, Audrey assigned her." - Mina could feel her heart drop, hearing Maddy getting in the middle of the conversation. - "What about it?"
"Welll, Audrey was the one who said that I couldn't help guard because we already had YOU and model boy over there!"
"Yeah! I specifically assigned you to defend."
Hudson quickly shot back with Audrey herself siding with him. If he alone was pointing a finger at Mina, it would have been fine, but having their team's unofficial leader on her back, caused the girl to already start imagining herself packing her suitcase. At least until Maddy came to her defense once again.
"What does it matter, anyway? Adrien was the one who lost! And you were the one who allowed him to be able to guard!"
Now it was Audrey herself who felt herself slowly getting backed into a corner.
"Huh?! No! The weakest always stay behind! Everyone knows that!"
"So now you're calling us weak?"
"NO! I- …Eh, let's just leave it."
The team leader backed away and started making her way back to the camp, alongside a few others, including Hudson and Adrian. For a moment, Mina couldn't believe it. Just a few seconds she thought it could be over for her. She looked up at Maddison, who just smiled at her.
"Well? Do you have something to say?"
"I- Maddie- …Thank you. I… Wouldn't be able to defend myself like this."
"Don't mention it. That's what friends are for, right?"
Right. Friends. Just friends.

Hi! This is pretty random, but literally 6 hours ago I learned about this series, really enjoyed the episodes that were released so far, fell in love with this ship, and then felt despair once I learned that apparently there will be no same sex couples in this season. Which would be fine with me if not for these two. It's 6 am, I haven't slept today, and I'm feeling the M&M brainrot, so I wrote this, even if only like 10 people will read this and only 5 of them will know what's going on. All in hopes that maybe the creator reads it, changes his mind, makes them canon (and maybe makes Maddie win the season, cause she should, shes the best character...)
Anyway, if you read this, I hoped you enjoyed it!
