Work Text:
Weightless
April 3rd, 2024
When the world is too loud
And the space is too big
And your worries are bigger still
I will hold you.
And run my fingers through your hair
Card them through tangles and trauma
And rest them on your crown
I will lift it from you.
Place it in a cage and throw away the key
Lock the door on expectations
And let you rest your soul on mine
I will hold you.
When the waves crash just a little too high
And the ship you've carved from yourself
Takes on more water than it can handle
I will hold you.
Until the seas calm and your head lifts
Eyes bright but dry, red rimmed and relentless
Baring the weight of every soul on board
I will lift it from you.
And drape it over both our shoulders
Load shared and halved, again and again
Until you're light enough to stand alone
But I will hold you,
so you never have to.
