Work Text:
Having a crush is common for teenagers, and Y/N is no exception. But the boy she likes is someone everyone in her town despises. His unique appearance and aggressive demeanor have branded him an outcast, a troublemaker, a monster.
When Y/N first moved to town during her junior year of high school, he was the first person she noticed, the one she immediately wanted to befriend. Her classmates quickly warned her to stay away from him, claiming he was bad news, someone to avoid at all costs.
Y/N couldn’t understand their disdain. How could this angelic-looking boy be the town pariah? To her, he deserved admiration, even reverence. But instead, everyone saw him as a menace, the very opposite of what she perceived.
Determined to make her own judgment, Y/N shared her thoughts with her small group of friends. Their reaction was one of horror. After school, they dragged her to a scene they thought would shatter her illusions: there he was, brutally fighting off several boys.
Her friends believed that witnessing his violence would erase any admiration she had for him. On the surface, it worked; she stopped talking about him. But deep down, her feelings only grew stronger. She had seen the whole encounter and knew the truth: he was defending himself from an unprovoked ambush.
Despite understanding his actions, Y/N lacked the courage to speak up, to defend him against the harsh judgment of her peers. She decided to keep her feelings secret, admiring him from the shadows. She began to observe him closely, learning his habits, his mannerisms, his emotions. Everything she discovered, she meticulously documented in a notebook hidden beneath her bed.
As junior high school drew to a close, Y/N realized she had to do something for him. She wanted him to find a place where he could be happy and accepted. She thought of Furin High School, a place known for welcoming delinquents, the same school her cousin planned to attend. She knew it was a perfect fit for him, though convincing him would be a challenge.
Through careful research, she learned that Furin High School was very different two years prior. Crafting a plan, she made sure to talk about the old Furin High within his earshot, painting a picture of an environment he would love, an environment that no longer exists .
Her plan worked. By snooping through the teachers’ faculty records, she discovered he had listed Furin High as one of his senior high school choices. The downside? Furin was far from her town, and she wouldn’t see him anymore. But she pushed her feelings aside, prioritizing his happiness over her own.
Although she wouldn’t get to witness his new life, she could still hear about it through her cousin. She heard tales of his struggles and triumphs, hoping he found the happiness he deserved. It didn’t matter that her role in his life remained unknown. After all, it was just a simple crush… right?
Sakura Haruka is just a boy she had a small crush on who will soon be forgotten as one of her old crushes she had in her teenage years…right?
