Bad Night

Summary:

Husk is worried when Angel Dust is late to come home from work, and that worry doesn’t stop when he arrives back at the hotel.

Notes:

There’s talk of Angel’s injuries but it doesn’t go into detail of them or how exactly he got them besides getting it from work

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Husk quietly cleans glasses behind the bar, alone since everyone has already headed to bed. He used to go to his room once the last of the hotel patrons went off to bed, but for the last few months he’s been waiting up for one particular tall hotel resident.

The two became close after Angel opened up a bit and finally stopped putting up that fake facade he always does. Husk couldn’t deny that even before then Angel didn’t interest him the slightest. What he hadn’t expected was to fall for the spider demon.

He tried to ignore those feelings creeping up on him, stuff them deep down and not act on it. Angel did not make that too easy though.

Which led to one night with them confessing to the other and finally going out on a date.

So now five months in, and the two couldn’t be happier together. Husk can’t ever remember a time where he ever felt like this for another person before.

Even before the two got together, Husk would have a drink with Angel when he got home, except now he heads up to Angel’s room instead of going to his own most of the time.

It’s become part of his schedule and he doesn’t mind. As much as he hates where Angel has to go off to, he likes the little time they get to just to the two of them at night.

Though right now he can’t help but worry. There’s times when Angel will head home a bit later than usual, but he always sends a text to Husk to give him a heads up if he can.

As of tonight, Angel is nearly two hours late to his usual time getting there, and that’s accounting for when it’s already a long shooting day. So yeah, Husk is a little more than worried.

He would text Angel himself, but he also doesn’t want Angel to get in any sort of trouble from Valentino. He’s been extra dickish the past week for whatever reason, and Angel has been paying for it greatly.

Before getting too lost in his thoughts he hears the hotel doors open quietly and sees the tall spider slowly make his way in. Angel closes the door quietly, not yet aware Husk is still at the bar.

As Angel makes his way in more, Husk can feel his breath hitch. Angel is covered in dried and fresh blood with cuts and bruises scattered about his body. He can also see the exhausted look in his eyes as he shuffles along further in the hotel.

Husk doesn’t want to scare Angel, so he gently puts the glass he was cleaning down. As he makes his way around the bar though, he accidentally moved a bottle with his wings alerting the injured demon.

Angel’s eyes widen a bit until he sees it’s just Husk and smiles tiredly at him and changes his stride over to the shorter demon.

“Heya whiskers” Angel tries to say flirtatiously but comes out tiredly, his voice sounding shot. He’s holding onto the wall for support, looking as if he could keel over any second.

Husk approaches Angel, not yet touching him and notices just how much his entire body is shaking.

“Hey legs, how ‘bout we head up?” Husk says, knowing better to ask if Angel is okay right away. Angel nods his head and turns around to make his way up the stairs but is hit with a dizzy spell, losing his footing.

Husk grabs a hold of his waist making sure he doesn’t fall over. Angel sighs frustratedly and tries to stand up, but clearly his body doesn’t want to cooperate.

Husk decides to pick him up bridal style, causing Angel to let out a yelp, and heads up the stairs. He knew it would take them far longer if he let Angel’s pride take over.

Angel pouts for a second but quickly relaxes, putting his top arms around Husk and nuzzling his face into his neck. Even with Angel being taller than him, he still feels like nothing in his arms.

They make it up to Angel’s room and Husk gently places Angel down onto his bed. Angel whines a bit at the loss of contact but quickly gets distracted by Fat Nuggets hopping up next to him. Husk takes that opportunity to go to the bathroom to grab the first aid kit.

Angel looks as if he could pass out any second and Husk can’t tell if it’s from pure exhaustion or his injuries. Even though he could see some of the cuts and bruises, Angel’s fur and clothes may be covering more of it.

Husk gently sits next to Angel, causing him to slowly open his half lidded eyes. He smiles softly at him and opens the box up. Angel shakily sits up and tries to undress himself, but clearly is struggling.

“Let me help.” Husk says quietly, waiting for Angel’s approval. He nods his head and allows for Husk to help.

Husk starts with gently taking off each of his gloves, then slipping off his jacket. He doesn’t bother with his skirt just yet and especially not Angel’s shoes, knowing how much he hates anyone seeing his feet.

But once Husk gets a good look at Angel, he has to keep himself from gasping. His entire back is covered in deep gashes, some even on his stomach and chest but those don’t seem as deep. There’s many smaller cuts littering his arms with some deep bruising surrounding them. And now being closer to Angel, Husk can hear the slight wheeze in his breathing.

“It’s not as bad as it looks.” Angel rasps out, stretching his neck slightly to look at Husk. With even that small movement though, he can see how much it hurts the spider.

Husk chooses to not say anything and grabs some antiseptic and puts a bit on some gauze.

“This may burn a bit legs.”

Angel gives a tired thumbs up, already knowing what’s to come. This isn’t the first time Husk has helped him clean up on a bad night, though this is the first it’s ever been this bad since they’ve been together.

He tries to clean the wounds as gently as he can but wants to make sure he actually does it right. He starts with the smaller cuts first, putting bandaids on the ones that are still slightly bleeding as he goes.

Once he finishes up on the smaller ones, he begins on Angel’s back. The first one he starts on is the lowest, right on his tailbone. He can hear Angel gasp quietly and he grips the sheets a bit.

“Sorry, sorry.” Husk stops quickly, “Do you need a second?” he asks.

“You can keep going.” Angel mumbles, sitting up straighter.

Husk tries to clean it as fast as he can without not doing it properly. As he cleans each gash, he covers each with a butterfly bandage and a few pieces of gauze over each. They aren’t bleeding as heavily as they were beforehand but still are too deep to not need all the bandages.

Slowly but surely, Husk cleans up the rest of the cuts on Angel’s body. After the cleaning the first big gash, Angel stayed worryingly quiet.

“Alright, think I got everything. Is there anything else?” Husk doesn’t hear any response from the spider and worries he may have passed out, “Angel?”

“Huh?”

“I asked if you have any other injuries?” Husk gently puts his hand on Angel’s shoulder but he flinches slightly at his touch. Husk quickly retracts his hand and moves back a bit.

“Sorry.” Angel says quietly, curling in on himself.

Husk moves to sit in front of him and his heart breaks in half, seeing the silent tears stream down his face.

“Hey, you don’t have to be sorry. It’s okay baby.”

“But ‘s stupid to be actin’ like that.” Angel hastily wipes his face, but the tears won’t stop falling.

“It’s not stupid at all Angel. You had a rough night, it’s okay.” Husk has never been the best at comforting others. He can lend an ear to listen, but when it comes to trying to make someone feel better, he always feels at a loss.

Angel instead ignores what Husk says and lays down on his side. “There’s nothing else to worry about.” It takes Husk a second to know what he’s talking about until he realizes he’s answering his question from before.

“Okay, let me put this all away real quick.” Angel nods his head and Husk hurries to put everything back and fills a glass of water for him.

When he comes back to his bed he thought Angel was asleep until he slowly opens his eyes at Husk as he sets the glass down on the nightstand.

“You need anything else?” Angel shakes his head and goes to shut his eyes again. Husk hates to do it but he grabs the water and gently pushes it towards him.

Angel rolls his eyes a bit but sits up a bit and takes the glass, nearly chugging the entire thing. Husk smirks at him and Angel gives him the middle finger as he finishes the glass. He sets it back on his night stand and settles back down in the bed.

Husk then grabs a pair of pajama shorts and socks for him to change in to so he can be a bit more comfortable.

Angel nearly groans when Husk brings it over but gives a small smile at the act nonetheless. He changes quickly while Husk looks away. Even if they’re dating, he still doesn’t want to overstep or be disrespectful.

“You can turn around now idiot.” Angel says fondly. Husk flips him off but does so, still just standing at the side of the bed.

“You goin’ to stand there all night or you gonna get in bed?”

Husk chuckles softly and heads over to the other side and slides in next to Angel, keeping a bit of distance between them. Angel turns over and rests his head on his chest and entwines their legs together. Husk adjusts himself a bit and brings a hand up to card his hand through Angel’s hair. He lets out a contented sigh, nuzzling further into Husk’s chest.

“Thanks for takin’ care of me Husky.” Angel whispers tiredly. Husk leans down a bit to give his forehead a kiss and closes his eyes.

“Anytime legs.”
