Work Text:

The dark-haired girl smiled at the sheet slowly being filled with lines and scribbles, a smile, two eyes, a nose; gradually, the face taking shape. A face with delicate features, a beautiful smile on her lips, wavy hair, a perfect face to anyone else but her, the smile fading into a grimace of disappointment. She ripped the sheet angrily, crumpled it, and threw it with the others in the corner of the wall.

She knew those other balls of paper held realistic images of that imperfect face. She closed the notebook, frustrated, closed her eyes for a few seconds, then smiled again as she looked at the black sky dotted with stars. Memories flooded back, a starry night like this, but brighter because she was here.

"Agatha, pay attention to me!" The whiny voice rang in her ears. "What's the point of calling me here if you're just going to draw?"

"Shut up, Zee!" Despite the attempt to sound stern, anyone listening could tell the words were accompanied by a big smile.

The girl with wavy blond hair, ignoring the older one's grumbling, stood up from the ledge and approached another girl. She wrapped her arms around Agatha's neck, her hands going to the tightly tied bun and letting it loose. The black hair cascaded over the older girl's shoulders as the blonde leaned in, noses touching, a mischievous smile on her lips.

"You look beautiful with your hair down," she said, closing the distance between their lips. When they parted, her smile widened. "You also look beautiful when you blush."

The redness on the shorter girl's face deepened, accompanied by a shy smile. Swiftly, the younger girl snatched the notebook from Agatha's hand, taking advantage of the distraction.

"Zoe!" Agatha exclaimed in frustration, watching her move away and sit in the same spot as if nothing had happened.

Zoe looked at the incomplete drawing, a silhouette sitting as if gazing at the starry sky. The smile never left her lips as she grabbed a pen from the notebook and scribbled something in the corner of the page. After a while, she stood up again, showing the other girl the names 'Agatha + Zoe' inside a heart, with a moon and a sun above the names. The lines were simple, contrasting with the rest of the drawing. The girl with black hair took the notebook, fingers hovering over the new drawing.

"I know I don't draw as well as you, but..." Her voice, unlike before, was low, almost embarrassed, interrupted by a murmur. "What?"

"Everything you do is perfect," she said softly, still looking at the notebook. Her hair fell over her face, but the redness was visible.

"God, I love you so much," she said joyfully before lifting the older girl's face and stealing another kiss, followed by many more.

She opened her eyes again, tears on her face contrasting with her smile, which soon turned melancholic. She wiped the tears and ran her hand through her shoulder-length hair, opening the notebook to that page with the still incomplete drawing. She lightly traced the pen drawing, almost afraid. She had left months ago, and the image of her face in her mind seemed to be fading away, unsure of the shape of her eyes or mouth.

It hurt, but she had to let go. Tears streamed from her eyes as she left the notebook under the bench by the door, walked to the terrace door, closed it with the key around her neck, descended the stairs of that abandoned building, approached a window with a broken pane, took off the necklace, and threw the key out toward an empty lot. She closed her eyes tightly, took a deep breath, held back the tears, and made her way to the building's exit. When she reached the exit door, she turned back and looked at the place one last time.

"Goodbye, Zoe," she said, and left.
