Work Text:
Pilby was silent as they watched Mach. The larger humanoid lay silently next to them. Her body dwarfed theirs as she held them close. A low humming left her chest from the artificial heart she had.
Anyone else would have found it uncomfortable. A sign that she was inhuman. A god amongst men. Instead, Pilby found it comforting. It was Mach. It was a part of her. Something they loved dearly. Something that brought them comfort in the hellscape of wherever they were. With a sigh, the caterpillar cuddled closer to Mach’s chest. The movement startled her slightly.
“What are you doing?”
She looked down at them with a questioning glance. Tilting her head slightly.
“Doh….you’re just so comfortable. I’m sorry if this is weird.”
Before they could even fully move away, Mach pulled them a bit closer. The humming in her chest getting louder.
“No…you’re okay.”
Pilby hesitated slightly as she spoke. They weren’t afraid of her. At least, not anymore. It was just anxiety speaking. Still, they eventually laid their head back down. Sighing as they relaxed against Mach.
As they got comfortable, Mach was silent as she watched Pilby. Why did this small caterpillar care about her so much? Why didn’t they run away? She was dangerous. Yet, with everything she has done, Pilby stayed. They cuddled up to her. Trusted her. Loved her. It was strange. Still, she wasn’t about to complain.
Moving slightly, Mach pulled Pilby closer to her. Curling up a bit like a cat. They were so tiny compared to her. Their little paws grasped at the shirt she wore as she moved. A small chuckle left her as she got comfortable again. Soon letting out a relaxed sigh as she melted into the bed.
Pilby was a bit uncertain as she moved. Not expecting Mach to pull them closer. Holding onto her shirt in slight fear of being possibly crushed. She was careful, though. They knew she wouldn’t hurt them. Even if that anxiety was chewing at the back of their head. Eventually, they relaxed back into Mach’s chest. Smiling as she also relaxed. A small reward to them. Knowing she was allowing herself to be vulnerable around them.
“I wish we could stay like this forever…d’ooh.”
Mach chuckled softly as she placed her chin on the top of their head.
“I know. I wish the same, too.”
If she was allowed to, she would. Unfortunately, she was a guardian of universes. Sworn to protect everyone and anyone. Even if it was against her wishes. A thought haunted the back of her mind. Knowing she’d have to choose the universe over one, small bug. For now, she’d enjoy her life as it was. Pilby didn’t need to know of her curse.
“Can we stay like this for as long as we can?”
“Of course.”
Neither of them had anything to do as of now anyway. The elevator was down for an “update”. No rude Robloxians would come sprinting in and interrupt their moment. No snowballs or foam darts being thrown at either of them. As much as Mach liked to see the strange “players”, she preferred this. Silence. Holding Pilby in her arms as they talked.
Minutes went by in that comfortable silence. Mach kept her head on top of Pilby’s as they stayed cuddled up to her. Both enjoying each other’s company. After a few more minutes, Pilby spoke.
“Mach, can I tell you a joke I’ve been working on?”
“Hm?” She had started to doze off until they spoke. Shaking herself awake. “Oh, sure.”
Pilby looked a bit uncertain but still smiled. Trying to think of exactly what he had been working on.
“W-Well…what has more lives than a c-cat?”
“Hm…I’m not sure.”
“…A frog, because it c-croaks every day. Haha…”
It was silent for a few seconds. The caterpillar felt a bit self-conscious about the joke. Wondering if Mach possibly didn’t get it. Then she let out a deep but short laugh. Shaking Pilby slightly due to them being right against her chest.
“That was a good one, Pilby. You should use that for our next show.”
That caused them to perk up.
“I-I should?”
Mach nodded slightly as she fought off a yawn.
“You should. I think it would make them laugh.”
It made her laugh and that was good enough. Pilby then beamed as bright as they could.
“Dawww…T-Then I’ll try to fit it into my routine. Thank you, Mach…”
They then proceeded to cuddle as close as they could to her. Trying and failing to wrap their arms around her. Still, they tried their best. An attempt Mach thought was cute. A very small smile came to her face as she returned their hug. Holding Pilby like a stuffed animal. Sighing as the smile dropped from her face. Closing her eyes as she finally kissed the top of the caterpillar’s head. Taking a deep breath in before sighing again. They smelled like apples and sweets.
As they were kissed, a very content noise left Pilby as they giggled. Pulling away from Mach’s chest and attempting to kiss her. Their position was a bit awkward for what they were trying to do but they managed. Placing a kiss right on Mach’s nose before going back to their spot. The god smiled again as she relaxed more into the bed. Feeling herself begin to drift off.
“I…I love you.”
She heard Pilby say as she lay there. A hum left her as she hugged them even closer. A small squeak left them.
“I love you too.”
With that, Mach fell asleep. Snores left her as she lay limp in the bed. Holding Pilby in her arms. The caterpillar giggled before getting comfortable. Soon dozing off next to their lover. Unafraid of whatever dreams they might have.
