Hey, Sweetheart

Summary:

When Katsuki is hung up dealing with a villain with more brawn than brains, he almost misses one of the most important things in his and his Eijirou's life.

The birth of their pup.

Will he make it to the hospital in time?

Work Text:

Katsuki slammed the villain’s head into the ground for a second time, the ends of his gloved fingers digging harshly into his neck. The fucking audacity of this asshole to attempt to rob a fucking pizza shop when the local preschool was there on a field trip, learning how to make their own little pies.

The dumbass didn’t even have a weapon, relying solely on his shitty quirk, which was like an elementary version of Shinsou’s if you asked him. The call had barely gone out before Katsuki was on scene. Considering it was a block away on his patrol route, it took seconds and a few blasts from his palms to make it in record time.

The problem was, the guy thought he was tough. He was very clearly an alpha like Katsuki, if his poor attempt at posturing was any indication. He was taller and wider than Katsuki, too, and their brawl wasn’t an easy one to turn to his favor, even with his quirk.

Whether the villain lived under a rock or just paid no attention to the fact that Dynamight was the one bashing his head against the concrete pavement was a moot point. Being the number two hero usually created fear in even the harshest of criminals, but this guy… well, he was clearly just an idiot with more brawn than brains.

Combining large muscle mass and limited brain cells hadn’t helped the situation, and by the time Katsuki felt as if he’d turned the corner, he was pretty sure he had a broken nose, a busted gauntlet, and some nasty scratch marks down his neck. Bastard. All he could taste was blood, even after he purposely spit on the guy in a fucked up way of saying ‘Fuck you, I win.’

“Stay the fuck down, asshole!” Katsuki dug his knee into the guy’s back, smirking at the pained yelp it caused. With the new invention of quirk-cancelling cuffs – where the fuck were they when he was just starting out, anyway? – it helped, but the guy was strong and didn’t give a fuck about fighting back.

Bad move on his part.

Even as the sirens grew closer and cop cars came to a screeching halt just feet away, the guy somehow managed to roll them over and slammed his forehead against Katsuki’s only to be grabbed by a couple of street cops and yanked off of him. He laid on the ground for a moment, dazed and with blurred vision while the cops loaded him into the back of the car.

“You good, Dynamight?” Officer Tanaka hovered over him just enough to block out the blazing rays of the sun, allowing Katsuki to open his eyes to mere slits. He could already feel the headache starting, a fine addition to the throbbing in his face. Third broken nose in eight years, not a bad track record in his line of work.

“Yeah, m’good,” he grunted, pushing himself up to a sitting position, then accepting the officer’s hand to stand up.

He scanned the area, barely stopping himself from flipping off the cop car hauling the villain off to the precinct, but only because he could feel a dozen sets of little eyes on him through the large windows between him and the restaurant. Thankfully, Katsuki had instructed everyone to stay put as he dragged the villain outside.

Seeing the tears run down the little kids’ faces may not have affected him before, say, nine months ago, but now that he had his own pup on the way, his feelings had drastically changed.

Officer Tanaka’s walkie blared, but Katsuki tuned it out as he headed toward the door into the pizza shop. He vaguely heard the officer speaking to dispatch in a hushed voice, but he didn’t give a shit. All he wanted to do was make sure everyone inside was okay before he headed back to the agency to clean himself up.

“Uh Dynamight?”

He paused, turning back to look at the officer who was standing with wide eyes, hand still gripping the walkie.

“What?” Katsuki’s hand rested on the door, brow furrowed.

“I think your phone might’ve gotten busted in the fight, because, uh, your mate has been trying to reach you? Something about the hospital and being in labor?”

The officer’s face drained of color, as if he was expecting Katsuki to lash out at him. Instead, it took Katsuki a moment to process the words he’d just heard before he grabbed the phone out of his pocket. The screen was smashed to hell. Fuck if he knew how long ago that had happened, especially since the villain wouldn’t go down without a fight.

“You need a ride?”

“Fuck,” he whispered, panic rising in his veins. His heart started racing and his body went cold. “Oh gods, Ei,” he said to himself before blasting off into the air, ignoring the offer. He could get to the hospital much quicker this way, even if his body screamed in protest.

He landed – if that’s what you want to call the fact that he nearly crashed into the doors – and took off running into the hospital. His mind was going nuts with ‘what if's' and every potential awful situation that may have happened in the time since Eijirou went into labor. What if something happened to Eijirou and he wasn’t there? What if Katsuki missed the birth of his own child? He would march directly to that jail and hold true to his Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight – emphasis on murder.

Unwilling to wait for the elevator, he hauled ass up the stairs and most likely looked like a madman when he burst through the doors into Labor and Delivery. One of the nurses actually dropped a tray of tools and they clattered loudly onto the floor.

At least she wasn’t holding a pup.

“Kirishima? Where the fuck–”

“Sir, calm down. Are you his mate?” He idly wondered if nurses received training on how to deal with mates that were acting like he was… or looking like him, honestly. He hadn’t even thought about the fact that his face was a bloodied mess, his costume had seen better days, and he was frazzled as fuck.

He took a deep breath and gave her a frantic nod. Clearly all the training he himself had received to stay calm in harrowing situations didn’t apply when the situation was his own.

“Come with me, he’s been pushing for a bit but refuses to keep going without you.” She smiled at him, though he wasn’t sure what the fuck there was to smile about. As he followed her, all he could think about was how scared Eijirou must be, how he’d fucked up by letting his phone get smashed, especially this close to his mate’s due date, how–

“Sir? Right in here,” she said, again with a smile.

Katsuki had arrived literally in the nick of time. Within seconds of walking in their red eyes met, Katsuki’s full of concern, Eijirou’s full of tears. It took the omega only five more pushes to get their pup out, and the little one was screaming nearly immediately.

It’s funny how he didn’t even feel the headache or the throbbing in his face as he cut the cord or as he accepted the little swaddled bundle. Nothing else outside of his mate and their pup mattered right now.

Nothing.

“Hey, sweetheart,” he whispered to their little girl. She was perfect, all wrapped up in a hospital blanket and gazing up at him as their eyes met for the first time.  It was no surprise hers were red like theirs, but they had a little sparkle to them that was distinctly Eijirou. “Wanna meet your Papa?”

As much as Katsuki would love to hold their pup for hours, she needed to meet her Papa and be scented. The initial bond between an omega and her pup is incredibly important and Katsuki wouldn’t dream of standing in the way of that.

When he came to Eijirou’s bedside, the doctors were tending to him. His eyes were bloodshot and face blotchy from exertion and emotion. His hair was half plastered to his forehead, dark circles under his eyes out of pure exhaustion.

He was absolutely beautiful.

“I’m so sorry, Ei,” he whispered, voice wet with emotion as he bent over to press their cheeks together. They lightly scented each other, and while it was permitted in this ward of the hospital for obvious reasons, Katsuki would kindly tell them to fuck off if it wasn’t.

“Shh babe, you got here in time, that’s all that matters. What happened to your face?”

He’d very nearly forgotten about it. As he nestled their pup into his Papa’s arms, he kissed them both on the forehead before leaning back so Eijirou could scent her properly. Touching his nose, he winced as the pain came back with a vengeance. “Had a little incident, no big deal.”

“You should get it checked out, love,” Eijirou urged as he stared at their little girl.

“I will after you’re both settled. It can wait.”

This was far more important than a broken nose and a few stitches.

“I can’t believe she’s here,” Eijirou whispered, smiling as her little eyes closed.

“She’s just as perfect as you, Ei.”

Eijirou reached one hand out to take Katsuki’s. “Love you, Kat,” he said, fresh tears running down the sides of his face.

“Love you more, Ei.”

If Katsuki’s face was wet with his own tears, well, he didn’t give a fuck. Being allowed the life-changing privilege of seeing their pup come into this world, whole and perfect and healthy, he was proud to cry, damnit. He had so much love for these two humans that he could almost taste it.

There was no doubt in his mind that he would do anything for his mate and his pup.

His perfect little family.
