cicadas in the summertime

Summary:

Towa lifted his leg, his foot tracing over Taku’s ankle while he examined his paperwork. When Taku glanced over at Towa, he hid his smile behind his mug, steam rising from the cup.

“What?” Taku asked, his amusing glare softening as his attention turned to Towa.

Towa snorted, shaking his head. “Nothing.”

Taku removed his glasses, a small smile gracing his features. Towa averted his gaze, feeling shyer all of a sudden. This was what he wanted, but his heart fluttered, akin to a teenage girl with a silly crush. They were married, for fuck’s sake.

Towa spends a quiet afternoon with his husband.

Work Text:

Towa stood in front of the coffee maker, idly tapping his foot. Behind him, Taku was sorting through paperwork at the dinner table. The dishes were cleaned after breakfast, with time on their hands.

Taku was off today, and Towa didn’t have any classes. They dropped their daughter off at school, spending the morning doing things together in silence.

When the coffee was finished brewing, Towa poured two steaming hot cups, coming back to the dining table and sitting next to his husband. He put down his mug, leaning down to kiss Taku on the cheek, sliding Taku’s mug under his view.

Taku hummed, turning his head to kiss Towa on the lips.

“Thanks, peaches,” he murmured into Towa’s smiling lips. Towa felt butterflies flutter in his belly. They’ve settled into this domestic life of theirs for several years now, and the way Taku treated him, like a princess, from the moment they woke up in bed together until they slept during the night after putting Mei to sleep—it was rejuvenating, being in love, loving Taku.

“Figured you needed another.” Towa said with a wink, sitting across from Taku at the table. He took his time scanning over his husband’s features. Taku aged, reading glasses perched atop his nose, graying hairs where red used to be, but he never stopped looking graceful to Towa. Not when he had to take breaks at work due to chronic pains, took more days off to rest or attend doctor’s visits on his health, when he asked Towa to take over basic chores he couldn’t do due to his issues.

Taku was getting older with each passing day, the topic of his will coming up, what he intended to do when he passed or an emergency were to occur—and while Towa preferred not to talk about it, it had to come into consideration eventually, who would take over the clinic among other accommodations.

“I’ll do whatever I can, to take care of us,” Towa had told him. Us, as they were a family, partners for life, and Taku had people like Rei and their friends in Shinkoumi that he could count on.

The sound of papers shuffling filled the empty room. Towa watched Taku, eyebrows knitted in concentration, lips pressed together. He wanted Taku’s attention, wanting to point out how he looked kind of funny, like he was angry or something, sorting through clinical documents.

Taku chuckled, his hand reaching under the table for Towa’s thigh, squeezing. “What is it? You need something?”

Towa set down his coffee mug, hands resting on his cheeks, flushed a pretty shade of pink at Taku’s adoring gaze. Special. Excitement bubbled up in his chest. How lucky he was, truly.

“You just look funny,” he confessed with a giggle. Taku frowned, and Towa continued. “The way you’re looking at the papers.”

Taku understood then, eyebrows raised, laughing to himself. He removed his hand from Towa’s thigh and pinched between his nose, sighing.

“I just got these new prescriptions,” he said, referring to the glasses. “They work a little differently, just trying to break them in, I guess.”

“Do you like them?” Towa asked. Taku shrugged.

“Better than my last pair, at least.” He answered, drinking from his mug.

“I see.” Towa hummed, playing footsies with Taku under the table. “Should I leave you to it?” He hated having to ask that, but he knew what days Taku desperately needed to focus and when he needed a distraction, whether it be idle conversation, making dinner, or sex, Towa wanted to satisfy Taku in any way possible. He wanted to be a good wife.

Taku seemed to pick up on Towa’s mannerisms, as stubborn as he could be, it was difficult to turn Towa away. He sorted his paperwork and pushed them aside, pushing his chair back a little and patting his lap.

“C’mere.” He beckoned with a charming smile, cocking his head. Towa bit back his pride, keeping his face nonchalant when he rose from his chair, sauntering over to Taku to take his rightful place in his husband’s lap. Taku’s arms wrapped around his hips, and more butterflies ascended in Towa’s stomach, a close-up view of Taku’s doting facial expression, staring up at Towa.

He kissed Towa, lips gentle and warm. Towa finally smiled into his lips, cupping Taku’s stubbly cheeks.

Taku tightened his hold, parting from their fleeting kisses to bury his nose into Towa’s neck. He blew a raspberry there, and Towa jolted, a surprised laugh escaping his lips.

“Taku—!”

“You’re a distraction, you know that?” Taku muttered in defeat, but he was grinning when he met Towa’s face, stealing more sweet kisses that made Towa melt into him, running his hands through Taku’s scalp, down his neck and around his shoulders.

“That’s my goal.” Towa responded, nibbling at Taku’s lower lip. Whether it was a good or bad thing, Taku determined that when his hands lowered to Towa’s ass. He was enjoying the sundress, it seemed. Towa would enjoy Taku taking it off, kissing every inch of his scarred skin, telling him how pretty he was while they made love, or Taku could even do it with the dress still on. Didn’t matter. Towa liked to look pretty for him. He felt pretty because Taku always made him feel that way.

“I can continue my work later, then,” he said, nuzzling Towa’s cheek. His beard tickled, but it was a pleasant thrill, as Taku’s hands roamed his body and kissed his jaw and neck. With an impatient sigh and moan, Towa pushed Taku back, panting.

“Take me to bed already,” he demanded. As much as he was open to the idea of sex on the table, it wasn’t just the two of them living in this house on the coast. “Hurry… I want you, Takuma.”

At the sound of his name being called, so wantonly, loving, Taku lifted Towa into his arms bridal style.

“I think,” Taku said in-between hurried kisses, making his way up the stairs. “It’s time we try for another baby.”

With a joyous laugh, Towa kissed him, nails digging through his scalp in full agreement.
