Yamato sighed as he sat on a mountain hill looking at the horizon, waiting for Ace to arrive. He wasn't surprised that the ravenet was taking long, as always, although knowing it was the pirate's last day in Wano he wanted to spend as much time with him as possible.
Staring forward off the mountain top he was sitting on and lost in his thoughts, he didn't notice a person next to him until he was physically pushed, falling to the side as Ace plopped down onto the grass next to him with a smirk.
"Took you long enough," Yamato grunted as he adjusted himself back to a sitting position, nudging Ace back.
"Could've taken longer," Was the simple reply Ace gave, his smug smirk staying as he gave a soft chuckle.
Rolling his eyes, Yamato huffed "You still should've come sooner. You're leaving tomorrow."
Never missing a chance to tease, Ace nudged the taller man, saying "Oh, you want my company? I'm flattered."
"Don't let it get to your head, I'm just annoyed that you're leaving so soon." Yamato pouted, though the light blush on his face showed that it wasn't genuine.
"Sure, sure." Ace rolled his eyes, leaning back on his hands and looking forward at the view, letting the silence sink in. The two were men of many words, yet, it felt nice to have something like this every once in a while; just a pleasant, comfortable silence for the two to enjoy as they watched the sun set.
However, Yamato soon broke the silence, by sighing. "Y'know, it sucks that you're leaving tomorrow,"
Ace, still not looking at the other man, nodded slowly. "Yeah, I guess it does," he agreed "...I do need to leave though. It's natural for me to go someplace else, I'm a pirate after all.." He shrugged, offering a soft smile as he added "I promise I'll be back though."
A hopeful glint simmered in Yamato's eyes at those words, and he leaned in close, not caring that he looked childish as he repeated "Promise?"
With a light chuckle, Ace nodded, agreeing "Promise." He brought his pinky up, offering it to Yamato who quickly intertwined his with Ace's.
With an exchange of smiles, the two put their hands back down and looked back at the sky, though the stupid smile on each of their faces couldn't get wiped off as a lighthearted laugh left their mouths.
Finally, deciding to risk it, Ace slowly leaned over to Yamato and wrapped an arm around the taller man, hoping he wouldn't get yelled at for it.
Surprisingly, the response he got in return wasn't playful arguing, but instead, Yamato's smile softened as he leaned his head on top of Ace's.
"Hey, Ace?" He then called.
"Yeah?" Ace asked, having a feeling what Yamato was going to say. He continued looking forward, however, enjoying the sunset. Their last sunset together.
Yamato took a breath.
"Is it a good time to say I love you?"
At that, Ace chuckled softly.
"Is it a good time to say I love you too?"
