Chapter Text
He didn't know what happened.
From what they tell him, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It's a miracle he's even alive.
Though, he doesn't think so.
~
Sanemi kicked a pebble across the sidewalk. "I don't see why that bastard of a man even shows up to meetings. All he does is shit and sleep."
"I don't think that is all he does," Genya said. He was walking behind his brother. His eyes were glancing between Sanemi and their ride back to their apartment, "Brother? Can we... not take the car today?"
"No. Why wouldn't we? I don't want to walk that far, anyways."
"I just have a bad feeling about today."
Sanemi sneered, "What? That Kamado boy got you all riled up with his carbon emission babble?" Opening the driver's door, he slid into the black Ferrari. Genya sighed and slowly opened the passenger door.
"Hurry up."
Grunting in response, Genya slumped into the passenger seat.
"I don't know why you're being such a brat today. It's not like I went out of my way to include you in this very important work meeting." Sanemi put the car into drive, pulled out of his parking spot, and into the road. "I didn't have to bring you, let alone let you into the business."
"Yeah."
Sanemi glared at his younger brother. "Nothing to say?"
"Nothing in particular."
Sanemi sped up and passed a car.
"Don't go so fast."
"You don't get to tell me what to do."
The car's engine revved.
"Sanemi-"
"Be quiet. Not in the mood."
"Sanemi, I think you should slow down."
"I think you should shut up."
Sanemi switched lanes and sped up. The light was about to turn red.
Genya looked at his brother. "Sanemi I really think you should slow down," he said, trying to keep his voice from quivering.
"Just fucking shut up, I know what I'm doing."
The light changed to red.
"SANEMI-"
~~
He didn't know what happened. He was driving and now... where is he?
Everything hurts. His neck, chest, legs...
Where is Genya?
Wailing, he opened his eyes. Everything was too bright, too blurry.
"Genya?"
Everything was too quiet.
He was on the road, beside the car. How did he end up outside?
The car was upside down. Sanemi felt his stomach lurch just looking at it.
"What...what happened?"
He stood, holding on to the vehicle.But before he could reach the passenger door, he slipped. He caught his balance on a broken window and sliced his hands, then he looked down to see what he slipped in.
He was standing in a puddle of blood. Sanemi heaved and puked.
Where is Genya?
Sanemi staggered to the passenger-side door and tried to open it.
"Genya, open the door."
He heard a sob come from inside the car.
"Sanemi- 'Nemi I can't feel my legs... Everything hurts."
Sanemi ripped the door off the car.
Genya was still in his seat, but a bloody split started at his forehead and ended at his torso. Blood circled his body like a halo. Glass stabbed Genya's body with his arms twisted in unnatural ways.
"No, nononono, Genya!" Sanemi unbuckled his brother and carefully moved him out of the car. "Genya, please stay awake. I- I can't loose you. I don't know what I'd do."
Genya looked up at his big brother. "I love you. I'm- I'm sorry I never lived up to...lived up to your standards," he wheezed out.
"Genya, please. Don't talk like that. You're- you're not gonna die."
"I'm sorry 'Nemi. I'm sorry for being a bad brother."
Sanemi let out a cry and held genya closer. His vision began to darken and he began to sway. "You were never...never a bad brother. I was the bad brother."
Genya tried to grab his arm. "N...no. My 'Nemi... is the nicest person... in the world," he smiled at his big brother and closed his eyes.
"Genya? Genya, no. Genya wake up!" He sobbed and held his baby brother to his chest. "I'm so sorry. I... Genya!"
Sanemi passed out with his brother in his arms.
~~~
Groaning, Sanemi opens his eyes to the fluorescent lights of an ambulance. He tried to lift his arm, but he couldn't seem to get it off the stretcher.
Stretcher? Ambulance?
What happened?
"We're almost to the hospital, sir."
Sanemi's chest throbbed with pain and he moaned in pain. "God... what... what's wrong with me?"
"You have symptoms of whiplash, internal bleeding, and a likely a concussion. You made it off lucky, I'm afraid."
"...Lucky?" his body ached and his vision dims again.
"Sir, please stay awake."
The other man in the ambulance waved a flashlight in front of him.
Everything was too bright, too much of everything.
"Genya...my fault."
The EMTs glanced at each other.
"We're almost to the hospital, sir."
Sanemi's vision went black.
