Work Text:

Atsushi Nakajima and Ryunosuke Akutagawa never imagined they would end up together. Initially adversaries, their constant clashes at the Port Mafia and Armed Detective Agency had forged a peculiar bond. Over time, what began as animosity evolved into mutual respect and, eventually, something deeper.

It all started one quiet evening in Yokohama. The city lights sparkled, casting a serene glow over the bustling streets. Atsushi and Akutagawa had been assigned to a joint mission, and after successfully completing it, they found themselves sitting in a small, cosy café. As they sipped their drinks, an unspoken connection lingered in the air, a silent acknowledgment of their journey from enemies to allies.

Without much fanfare, their relationship blossomed. It was a gradual progression of stolen glances, shared moments, and understanding silences. Before they knew it, they were a couple.

Atsushi had always been frugal, a habit ingrained in him from his days at the orphanage. Akutagawa, on the other hand, had a more lavish lifestyle, courtesy of his position in the Port Mafia. Despite their differences, they found harmony in their relationship. However, Atsushi's frugality often meant he would hesitate to indulge in things he wanted.

One sunny afternoon, Atsushi found himself wandering through a local shopping district. His eyes caught sight of a beautiful leather jacket displayed in a store window. He admired it for a while but quickly dismissed the idea of purchasing it. After all, it was too expensive for his taste.

Later that evening, as Atsushi and Akutagawa relaxed in their shared apartment, Akutagawa noticed the lingering look in Atsushi's eyes. He followed his gaze to the jacket's advertisement on a leaflet Atsushi had brought home.

"Do you like that jacket?" Akutagawa asked, his voice calm yet curious.

Atsushi shrugged, trying to play it off. "It's nice, but I don't really need it."

Without another word, Akutagawa handed his wallet to Atsushi. "Here, buy it. Consider it a gift."

Atsushi blinked, surprised. "I can't just take your money like that."

Akutagawa smirked, a rare soft expression on his usually stoic face. "I want you to have it. Besides, what’s mine is yours now, isn’t it?"

From that day forward, Atsushi began to feel more at ease using Akutagawa's resources. At first, it was small things: a cup of coffee here, a snack there. Each time, he felt a twinge of guilt, but Akutagawa's nonchalance and encouragement slowly eased his worries.

One weekend, as they strolled through a high-end electronics store, Atsushi's eyes sparkled at the sight of the latest gaming console. He tried to hide his excitement, but Akutagawa noticed.

"Do you want it?" Akutagawa asked straightforwardly.

Atsushi hesitated but finally nodded. "Yeah, but it's too expensive."

Akutagawa simply handed his credit card to Atsushi. "Get it. You deserve it. Remember, what's mine is yours."

Atsushi's initial reluctance melted away, and he accepted the card with a grateful smile. This pattern continued, with Atsushi growing more comfortable in their dynamic. He never went overboard, but he no longer felt guilty about treating himself, knowing Akutagawa genuinely wanted him to enjoy these luxuries.

Their relationship thrived on this newfound understanding. Akutagawa, who was used to a life of taking care of himself, found unexpected joy in providing for Atsushi. For him, it was a way to show his affection, something words often failed to convey.

Atsushi, on the other hand, balanced his newfound freedom with a sense of responsibility. He made sure never to abuse Akutagawa's generosity. If anything, it motivated him to work harder, both at the agency and in their relationship.

One evening, Atsushi surprised Akutagawa with a home-cooked meal, using ingredients he had bought with Akutagawa's card. As they sat down to eat, Akutagawa couldn't help but smile at the effort Atsushi had put into the meal.

"Thank you," Akutagawa said, his voice soft. "This means a lot."

Atsushi grinned. "I should be the one thanking you. For everything."

As months turned into years, Atsushi and Akutagawa's relationship grew stronger. They learned to navigate their differences and build on their shared experiences. Atsushi's initial hesitance transformed into a confident understanding of their partnership.

One day, as they walked through a bustling marketplace, Atsushi noticed a beautiful watch that he knew Akutagawa would love. Without a second thought, he purchased it using Akutagawa's card. When he presented it to him later, Akutagawa's eyes widened in surprise.

"For me?" Akutagawa asked, touched.

Atsushi nodded, a playful smile on his lips. "What’s mine is yours, right?"

Akutagawa chuckled, pulling Atsushi into a gentle embrace. "Absolutely."

In the end, Atsushi and Akutagawa found a unique balance in their relationship, one built on trust, mutual respect, and an unspoken understanding that transcended words. They continued to support and cherish each other, navigating the complexities of their lives together, stronger than ever.
