The Monsters We Are

Summary:

Goiky is a prison cell, 'but what is Goiky?' You may ask. Goiky is an institute in North America for children who have mutations in the form of supernatural abilities. Each child is put into a class depending on their ability.
E class is for children with elemental abilities, such as fire.
B class is for children with body or brain abilities, such as supernatural strength or telepathy.
O class is for children that don't fit in the other two classes.
And then, children are put into a safety class depending on the control of their ability and the threat it can pose. And just to be even more safe, if a child loses control, there is something called CS; CS is short for Control Serum. But what happens when that doesn't work?

Notes:

Some characters have different names and some don't, also, I'm doing this on a VR Headset, so updates might be slow. Also I'm trying to write S1 personalities with tiny differences.

Chapter 1: Biological Freaks

Chapter Text

Small chatter filled the white room where the teenagers of Section A ate, each one of them in their own little friend groups and cliques.

"Hey, have any of you seen Eli this morning? I haven't seen him in like 3 days." Blocky questioned, his face showing a different expression other than snark or anger.

"Didn't you hear?" Caleb started, "Eli got moved up to Red, now he's stuck with that... that idiot! "

"Dude, why do you and Fred have such malice between you two?" Pen said with a bored face, "And plus, there's another in Red than just Fred and Eli."

"Well William's a coward, so that doesn't count!" Caleb shrugged off.

"You got that right," Blocky added on.

"Anyways, back to Fred. I hate him so much!" Caleb had stood up and continued ranting, getting the attention of everyone else in the room, including the one of the people who supervised them.

"Uhm... Caleb, calm down." Pen whispered, looking as the person approached closer.

"Is there a problem?" They said, getting Caleb to finally stop and freeze up like the rest of them.

"N-no, none at all..." Caleb silenced himself and sat down, the silverware now twitching and slowly bending which abruptly stopped.

"Freak." They muttered, and walked back to where they were before.

"Poor Caleb, I feel bad for him," Leafy muttered to Pat, who ate her pancakes while listening to Leafy go on and on.

"At least I'm not him."

"The least you could do is feel remorse! I mean... you both have metal abilities."

"Okay, hold up. We may both have metal abilities but that doesn't mean that we are alike, or even like each other. He's like cane sugar and I'm powdered sugar, we may sound alike, but we taste very different."

"I know, but Caleb's already in the Orange; he might get moved to Red..."

"Not my problem."

The teens talked on and on, the minutes slowly ticking past them, the room had white walls; was it to invoke the feeling of emptiness? Maybe. Each and every one of them wore a white shirt and shorts, with a wristband with their color that also administered CS. Each of them of different backgrounds and reasons for being there. Red's didn't eat with the rest of them, they were too much of a risk.

"OMG, Pence-Pence, today is like, absolutely terrible! I like, got no sleep last night. The tests went like, way too long." Match sighed as she kept talking to her best friend, Pencil.

"Tell me about it, they work us way too hard, what about you, Bea?" Pencil looked over to Bea.

"It's not too long, but you two are in doifferent in classes. It moist've been toiturous for you Pencil, I mean, you're in O class." Bea shrugged and kept eating the waffles she had.

"At least they're only once a week for us." Pencil muttered.

Just then, Bea was hit with applesauce in the back of her head, she turned around to meet Blocky's eyes, "Hey! Blocky, that woistn't noice!

"What? I didn't do anything," Blocky sneered, "Calm down before you burst, Bubble Girl." Bea frowned angrily and floated over to Blocky with the expression of 'I'm going to kick your ass.' "Aww... does the Bubble Girl wanna fight?"

Before anything could happen, the both received a massive dose of CS, knocking them both out. Their bodies went limp and hit the floor.

After breakfast, Blocky and Bea were put into their rooms to not be able to interact with anyone for the rest of the day. (Except for group testing.) Match and Pencil would death stare Blocky's friends, and they would death stare back. But as that ensued, it was time for group testing; group testing was when everyone did a test, regardless of class or safety level. Although it was meant for team building, they treated it as a competition. Every week it changed the setting, but had the same goal: Survive. It was one of the only times to see those who were in Red; which was Fred, William, and now Eli.

Everyone lined up at a white line, and waited for the test to begin. What they could tell from the room was that the test was to survive falling boulders and rocks. As the first few boulders started falling they had started to move around to dodge.

"Wait a minute, there's iron in the rocks!" Needle said as she was able to stop a rock before it hit Trisha.

Trisha went over to Needle and Needle threw the rock to the side, Trisha smiled and gave her a high five. Pat and Leafy overheard Needle and walked over to them, barely escaping a few boulders in the process.

"You said the rocks had iron in them?" Leafy said while breathing heavily from sprinting over to the two girls with Pat, "Could we maybe team up? It would be a lot easier to survive."

"Yeah," Pat said while also breathing heavily, "It would be so much easier."

"Well... sure!" Needle said, and Trisha gave a nod.

"Leafy, boulder comin' straight at ya!" Pat warned Leafy, and in the blink of an eye, a thick vine grew from the ground and knocked it away, almost hitting Fred in the process.

"Hey! Watch where you're hitting those things!" He shouted at Leafy, about 25 feet away.

"Sorry!"

"The nerve of some people..." Fred muttered under his breath, walking away from the boulder that almost gave him a new face. He then came across William, who was struggling a lot on his own; narrowly escaping from getting hit, "Hey, William. Do you need any help?"

William, who was terrified of absolutely everything, had no idea what to respond with; if he could even respond at all.

"...Mmm... Sure?" He sheepishly replied, looking down at Fred a bit since Fred was short.

"C'mon, let's make the best out of this! I mean, we don't really get to interact with everyone else..." William's face scrunched up a bit, and looked off to the side.

"Fair point." He responded quietly.

The two dodged boulders the best they could, almost getting hit and not using their abilities at all. After about 15 minutes, they were winded and exhausted.

"Maybe we should've thought a little harder about a type of plan." Fred leaned on William, waiting for a response; But William had his eyes on something else, Blocky, "Ooh, didn't know you were into men, Will."

"Ah! I'm not, he's... Interesting." William looks away with an embarrassed look on his face.

"You totally like him."

"Whatever, the test is over anyways... I wouldn't be able to talk to him for about another few days."

Chapter Text

William’s nervousness around others and appearingly everything was information that Grace desired. Her mind clouded with thoughts about him and how he sees other people, as well as what he has to hide.

What is going on inside of his head? I’ve tried getting data out of him, but he’s just so skittish!

“You’re not trying to read William's mind, are you?” Thomas, who was Grace’s trusted and only friend, came up to Grace while she was deep in thought.

“No!” she quickly replied, “I’m just merely, uh, observing!”

“You’re a terrible liar.”

“Okay! Fine, I was trying to read his thoughts, but I’m just so interested in what goes on inside of that head of his.”

“Trust me, what goes on inside of that head of his is something you don’t want to figure out; believe me, I know.”

“What? If you have information Thomas, I demand you give it to me!”

Thomas sighed, “Fine, I’ll tell you. A while ago, him and I were... friends you could say. It wasn’t for very long, but I got close to him and he had trust in me. Like you, I also wondered what went on in his head, his behavior was a mystery that I desired to solve. Until the day I actually tried to read his mind, it was chaotic, his head filled with fear and despair. Even worse when after I stopped, my eyes saw things, things I couldn’t touch, but I could hear them talk, feel them touch me. It was terrifying.”

“That only makes it more interesting, Thomas! What in his brain causes those thoughts I need to know!”

“I literally just went on a rant on why you shouldn’t!”

Thomas and Grace continued their small disagreement as they went into the building, Eli, William, and Fred had to stay outside longer than the rest of them. As they had to do a second round.

“What’s going on?” Eli asked as he approached Fred and Will.

“Second round, it’s where we’re actually able to use our abilities, since with the others it can get too dangerous since we’re Red in the Safety Level.” Fred replied, cracking his knuckles as he got ready for the second round.

“So how did he get here? Seems unfitting for a coward to be as dangerous as they say he is.” Eli slandered William without knowing the truth, but Fred was quick to defend him.

“He’s here for the same reason you and I are here! You can’t blame him for how he is! Anybody would be as scared as he is if they went through what he went through!”

“And what did he go through anyways?” Eli and Fred got more tense, slandering each other at this point. Fed up with them, William finally says something.

“It’s none of your business! I am the way I am and you have to accept that! Just because you think you’re better than me doesn’t mean you are! Now can we shut up and start the second test and get this over with? If you can’t tell, the people who watch us are waiting and documenting this!”

“He has a point there, they are documenting this, they document everything we do. Now let’s hurry up with this.”

The three of them lined up at the white line again, waiting for it to restart. As the boulders tumbled down again, the three split apart, each of them fending off the rocks in different ways. Eli stayed still and erased the rocks as they came towards him, Fred, who was engulfed in his own flames, knocked the rocks out of his way and dodged the ones that were too big to hit, and William dodged all rocks without using his abilities.

Eli still wondered much about William, and for a moment he thought about getting closer to him, not as a rival but as a friend, he tried to forget the thought, but it stuck in his head.

He can’t be that bad, can he? Sure, he’s... annoying, but maybe he can’t help it. What’s wrong with me? Why am I feeling bad about some spaz who doesn’t even use his own abilities? Eli stopped completely, leaving himself completely open and vulnerable to anything and just stared at William, William returned the eye contact for a while. William saw a very large boulder tumble towards Eli, and Eli, who didn't have enough time to react, squeezed his eyes shut and braced himself. William reacted differently though, for once in his life he wanted to do something with his ability.

Thick, thorny vines wrapped around Eli’s body like a cocoon protecting a butterfly from harm. Eli opened his eyes to be meeted by the darkness and protection of the vines around him, shocked and slightly breathless by what he saw. For a moment, William was happy for himself, he used his ability right without hurting someone or himself, and found that making the gestures with his hands also helped. With his hands clasped together, William’s happiness quickly turned into regret and fear as his mind turned on him.

How am I gonna get him out? Is he stuck there? Oh no it’s all my fault? They’re watching and they know I messed it up. What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?

...

What CAN I do?

William tried to clear up his overthinking for once, and slowly unclasped his hands, hoping that the vines would retreat into the ground again. Thankfully, they slowly retreated back into the ground as he let his hands go. He ran over to Eli as he checked to see if he was okay, despite the fact that Eli hated him just a few minutes ago.

“Are you okay? I-” William then rambled on, stuttering his words, saying he was sorry and that he shouldn’t have done that because he didn’t respect Eli’s boundaries.

“Dude, you saved my skin back there, don’t worry about it. If anything, I should be saying sorry, it was my fault, I said some rude stuff. I guess I owe you one.” Eli walked away from William.

“What was that about?” Fred walked up to William, the flames slowly dissipating as he walked closer.

“I don’t know, but I think Eli respects me now? I’m not too sure.”

“Well, we still have 10 minutes left of this thing so let’s do it already.”

The soft clicking of keyboard keys filled Thomas’ ears as he typed away at the keyboard, reading the document with all of their tests. His breath hitched as he read the results of William’s test, freezing completely. With the little information that Isla had given him right after her test, it had uncovered a motherload of secrets. But with the information there would be little time to act, so there was no way to plan a way to save William in time without causing larger chain reactions.

Hopelessness filled Thomas’ mind as he realized there was no way to save William, a person he saw as a friend. He kept looking through what he could, he knew what he was doing was risky, and that being caught could lead to a worse fate than William for not only him, but for everyone else. Until finally, his eyes came across a document, nestled right under the staff member’s profile.

The Mission Of GOIKY Summarized:

The mission of the GOIKY facility is that of making sure any and all children with mutations in the form of supernatural abilities are carefully contained and isolated from the outside. This is not to harm the subjects in any form or capacity, this is to prepare them. The preparations are for Project YOYLE, which is to have each subject when they reach a certain age and eventually work under the government as ways to act out certain plans, spy on countries to gain more information about potential enemies, etc. Any subject that doesn’t meet the quota for certain qualifications, or is too dangerous, will be executed with Protocol D.

Thomas knew that William was too late to save, but the others? There was still time, hopefully they could plan a way out of there. He carefully logged out of the staff member’s account and stood up, his brain running with all the things he could do and with a sense of dread. He finally knew what happened to the others, Rocky and Sam. They must’ve not reached their expectations and so... They killed them.

I need to tell them, they need to know.

They need to know.

But then what do we do after that?

What do we do?

There’s nowhere we could go...

The chance of escape is so low it’s essentially impossible.

...

But there still is a chance, isn’t there?

I’ll figure something out, I have to.

For me.

For them.

For Him.

Thomas looked around the dark room he was in, once illuminated by the light from the computer he was just using. He concentrated on his breathing, his mind trying to see if he was truly in the clear. He wasn’t. A fuzzy glimpse in his mind showed him three people, all of which being scientists walking towards the door. In a panic, Thomas tried looking around for a place to hide. Upon seeing the closet in the corner, he saw no other choice but to hide inside and hope he wasn’t found.

The door opened.

“This is the room where the camera is stuck in static!” One of the scientists said, they were shorter in height and had sky blue hair.

Good. Grace had malfunctioned the cameras earlier in his room.

“This room and Subject SALG4’s room?” A taller scientist with dark gray hair responded to the sky blue one.

“Yes, exactly that! The cameras were also glitching in hallway’s A6, A8, A2, and A4, but they went back to normal.” The sky blue one answered back, the annoyance palpable in their voice.

“Well nothing is wrong with the camera itself, must be a software glitch or by other means.” A purple haired one walked over to the other two, barely taller than the sky blue one.

“What do you mean? You don’t think one of the subjects did this, did you?” The dark gray one responded

“I mean exactly that.”

“Well, how would they? Only two of them have the capabilities to do such a thing, but they’re cooperative. In fact someone like SAO5 would be more likely to do this, not SALG4 or SALG9.” The sky blue haired one faced the purple one as they talked.

“SAO5? No, this is way more intricate for something like him to plan out, he would need more than just himself and his clique.-”

“Then why don’t we check on them all? Starting from SAR1 through SAY20.” The sky blue one interrupted the purple one. They reluctantly agreed before leaving the room.

Thomas, who had seen and heard the entire thing go down, tried shooting a message to Grace across the building.

“Grace! I need you to block the cameras, again.”

“Coming back finally?”

“Yes.”

“What info did you get?”

“Too much to explain now, I’m hiding in a closet and everyone is going to be examined.”

“Fine, tell me tomorrow. Now hurry.”

Thomas took a breath before coming out of the closet and carefully walked over to the door, looking at the three scientists who were now out of view. He opened the door and quietly shut it behind him, not drawing attention or sound to himself.

In a moment, he was now running down the hallways towards his room, being sure to go down the right hallways where Grace had jammed up the camera feed. He passed by Grace’s room, then Fiona, Leafy, and then Elijah. He rammed himself into the door of his room, and expectantly, his body phased through it, his molecules disassembling and passing through before reforming into himself again.

He laid down in his bed, trying to lessen his heartbeat’s speed from the adrenaline that was just pumping through his veins.

Thomas knew that tomorrow, something was going to happen, and he didn’t know how to cope with it.

But he knew there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Notes:

Oooga Booga motherfuckers!

But anyways sorry this took a month, shits been hard for me since school started up again.
I've had 4 major meltdowns already and it's not even the third month of school yet. Toppling all of that up with the depersonalization and derealization I've been going through it's like having adding a ribbon to a gift of misery.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter! As always, I appreciate and want any comments from any of the people who read this, whether they may be guests or not.

And MASSIVE thank you to @Bl1ndWormz, you've been the main thing keeping me going with this.
Happy Halloween, or Happy day/night to those who don't celebrate! (I certainly don't partake in the holiday, but I know some people do and it matters a lot to them)
