Work Text:
They were helping a man who had fallen.
And now he was here and they weren’t.
“Demoiselle… there’s nothing you could’ve done.” Thierry told her.
But he was wrong. She had given the order. Perhaps she shouldn’t have. Perhaps she should’ve been more selfish. Then, maybe they’d be here and she wouldn’t be acting weak and crying when she needed to lead her people.
“But then, there would be no people to lead, right?” She could almost hear Melus saying.
“We chose to sacrifice ourselves. It’s not your fault. Keep going and stay strong. ” Silver would probably add.
But Navia couldn’t do that. To move on would mean to forget them, and to forget them would be an insult to all the good work they did.
Every time she looked beside her, they were there. But when she reached out, they weren’t.
She tried to stay strong like they would have wanted, but it was just so, so hard .
“Melus… Silver… I’m sorry. How could I ever have left you! We were a team. Now, I’ll never see you again, even if I spend every hour of every day here. There’s nothing of you left… The Primoridial Seawater made sure of that.”
Maybe you’d still be here if I was a better leader.
Maybe you’d still be here if I was a better person.
Maybe you’d still be here if I wasn’t.
