Work Text:

It's the first of the chemistry tests today, though Alex hasn't been told who he's reading with. He's already cast, contract signed and everything, but he isn't sure who his love interest is.

"First up: Henry Fox," Zahra says and Alex nearly drops his script. There's a smug look on her face that says she knows how much he can't stand Henry and she's looking forward to forcing them into proximity for the next three to five months. "Henry Fox will be reading for Gwen Stacy—name to be changed, Alex, don't even start with me."

Alex closes his mouth and gives her a dirty look before he pulls on his professional actor mask and gives Henry a polite smile as he walks in.

Surprisingly, unlike every other time Alex has ever seen him, Henry's wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Alex didn't think the guy owned anything other than button-ups and khakis. The T-shirt even has Spider-Gwen from Into the Spider-Verse on it.

"Hello, Henry," Alex says, forcing a politeness he doesn't particularly think Henry deserves after everything.

Henry blinks at him with blatant surprise on his face before turning to Zahra and hissing, "you didn't warn me it would be Alex?"

Okay, that one actually hurts. Alex grew up as a massive comics nerd and being cast as Spider-Man might be the coolest thing that's ever happened to him and Henry's already being a dick about it?

"Of course not. You're a professional, Fox. Act like it."

"Let's just get this over with," Alex says, rubbing a hand over his face and pretending it's not to wipe away the frustrated tears that want to fall.

Fuck, he hates Henry Fox.
