Work Text:
The suns shone brightly over the sands. Just as they always did. There was never a change in the weather on Tatooine, not unless there was a storm coming. But the bright light made it hard to look out into the distance for Beru's human eyes.
Yet she couldn't stop looking out into the horizon. Even if it hurt. She would take a little pain to be able to see what was coming.
Because it was all she could do.
It was Luke's first time going to the outpost alone, without either her or Owen or one of his older friends. And while she trusted Luke, she did not trust the people of the town. They were as terrible as ever and would not hesitate to hurt her boy if he annoyed them. Which he was more than capable of.
She loved him but knew what he was capable of.
Beru kept on working on her chores but every time she paused she looked out to see if the tell tale cloud of sand would be there, telling her that Luke would be home soon.
Some of the other families around didn't understand why she loved him as much as she did. That he was just her nephew from her husband's step brother. A man that she had only met once. But Luke had been hers from the moment she laid eyes on him. She loved him as much as any mother could love her son. There was nothing in the galaxy that could change that. And anytime someone said something in her ear shot she made sure they knew. Beru knew that others would never believe her but Luke would. Through her words and her actions.
The tightness in her chest lightened as the cloud of dust appeared and grew closer. And released fully as the speeder came into close enough view that she could see Luke was driving no more worse for wear.
