Work Text:
The door of the apartment opened, the sounds of keys clicking in the middle of the night. The light of the hall illuminated the apartment for a few seconds before the door was closed shut, now just the light of the sunrise illuminating the environment. Leon sighed heavily, rolling his tense shoulders to try to relax his overworked muscles. He removed his work boots and leather jacket before dropping his bag on the ground.
Tired was an understatement to what he was feeling; it was beyond exhaustion. He was surprised he was still standing, really. Not even a shower was on his mind now. Right now, he just wanted to strip and crash on his bed, face first on his pillow, and just sleep for the next twelve hours straight.
However, the light from the living room caught his attention. He knew what it was, of course. In fact, he knew who it was, just quietly sitting on the couch in front of the television set.
Stepping into the living room, lo and behold, there she was, all wrapped up in a blanket while mindlessly watching the news program when the sun wasn’t even out yet. Hair disheveled, hands clutching onto the mug of coffee, wearing that silk bathrobe of hers.
“Hey,” Leon called out softly, even though his voice carried a hint of tiredness. “What are you doing up?”
“Drinking coffee,” she replied, turning her head to look at him with sleepy eyes. “Getting ready for the day.”
“It's 5am, baby.”
“I am aware.”
“You should be sleeping.”
“So should you.”
Leon sighed, making his way towards the girl and dropping down beside her on the couch. The weight of her head rested on his chest, and his arm quickly found its place around your shoulders.
“Go to sleep, Leon.”
“I will. In a minute.”
“You've been out for more than twenty-four hours,” she continued. “How the hell did you even manage to drive back home?”
“Guess I'm just really fucking good,” he replied with a small smirk, earning a raised eyebrow out of her.
“You could've crashed, you know.”
“But I didn't.”
“But you could've.”
“But I didn't.”
She let out a sigh, slightly shaking her head before sipping on her mug of coffee. “You're a menace.”
“You love it, though.”
“I really do, don't I?” she replied playfully, taking another sip of your coffee.
“I thank the heavens every single day that you do.”
Leon leaned closer to her, pressing his nose on top of her head and breathing into her scent. She smelled like sugar and coffee, just as incredibly sweet as she is.
His eyes fluttered close as he tried to resist his tiredness. He was glad to be home, but upset that she would soon leave for her—much less dangerous—job in the office, meaning he wouldn't be able to spend proper time with her until later that evening. (If his own job wouldn't suddenly call in an emergency that would require him to leave for God knows how long, that is.)
“When are you leaving?” he asked quietly.
“In an hour or so,” she replied, her eyes focused on the bright TV screen. Leon hummed in acknowledgment, moving his hand up and down her arm.
The exhaustion was starting to settle in more and more each second, a yawn escaping his mouth.
“Go to sleep, baby,” she said, turning her head to look up at his face. “You need to rest.”
“I will,” he murmured in response. “Just a few more minutes.”
“You're practically falling asleep already.”
“Just a moment, honey,” he continued, pressing his nose against her temple. “I can handle a few more minutes. Just…” he trailed off, letting out a sigh.
She let out a sigh as well, bringing her free hand to hold the back of his head, scratching his scalp with her nails. “You're so complicated.”
Leon let out a quiet, tired chuckle, squeezing her more tightly against him, as if he would never let her go. He sure was complicated, doing whatever, whenever, however he wished, no matter the consequences. Yet, somehow, he struck the biggest jackpot of his life, earning her as his prize. He had no idea how, but he wasn't going to complain about that.
“That's fine,” he replied, pressing a kiss on the top of her head. “You can handle it.”
His words took another chuckle out of the girl, making her tilt her head up to meet his gaze. Without another sassy comment, their lips met in a slow, passionate, and long kiss. Leon melted onto her, utterly addicted to the taste of coffee on her lips. It tasted sweet. Too sweet, just like her.
And right now, he just wanted a few more minutes of peace with her.
