Work Text:
The skies slowly turn darker and darker as Mizuki and Ena stare into the horizon. There is a certain silence, as if the waves on the beach put their hands on their mouths, preventing them from talking. However, their minds are far from quiet. Their minds are haunted by their “sin”.
It was Mizuki’s idea to take Ena to watch the sunset. It was an impulse decision, when Mizuki randomly ran into Ena and decided to take the train to the beach. But in a way, it was also her seeking an opportunity to confess to Ena – not just about her identity, but also about her love. But even though the romantic atmosphere is certainly there… Mizuki is just… Too scared to say anything worthwhile.
“It’s beautiful, right, Ena? Haha...”
“Yes… It is…”
Mizuki thought back to the time when she told her aunt about wanting to be a girl, only to be shut down by
“Are you sure you’re not just attracted to them?”
Luckily, their parents are much more supportive about their trans identity than that aunt of theirs. But still… Sometimes Mizuki still question whether or not they’re trans. She knows that she feels euphoria when wearing feminine clothes but… There are still times when she doubts herself, thinking she is just attracted to girls, not a girl herself. But they usually shut down that pain-inducing thought – they convinced themselves that they’ve come too far to go back.
Meanwhile, Ena sits next to them, nervous about being with Mizuki as well. She remembers that time when she drew two girls with each other. However, she forgot to switch tabs when her father walked into the room.
“Didn’t you want to become a great artist? Then why would you draw such a vulgar subject?” Shinonome Shinei asserted in disgust. “Think of how my reputation can be ruined… if it gets out that you created art like this.”
yeah, what would happen if everyone found out that Shinonome Shinei’s daughter is lesbian. what would happen if everyone found out that Nightcord at 25’s main artist is lesbian…
Mizuki continued their thoughts in shame. They recalled the countless times they stared at women on the street, and sometimes even at Ena when they’re with them. They recalled the countless nights before bed when they switched to their incognito ta– No. No. No.
i’m… i’m just like those thirsty men… aren’t i? i call myself a girl…. to make me feel less creepy… since we’re both girls… this is wrong… Ena doesn’t deserve a lowly sinner like me… ugh.
father… father wouldn’t like it if i am with another girl, even if it doesn’t get out. but do i really care about his feelings? he hurted me so much, and i want to leave him as soon as possible, but… still. the risks are too high. and Mizuki… Mizuki, what do you feel?
and Ena, she might not even reciprocate my feelings? then what do i do? will our relationship just slowly fall apart like so many of them before? that time when i confessed to my close friend, only ending up losing them… why do i have to be born this way?
Mizuki faced Ena, and reached out for a hug. As they approach each other, red, orange, and violet sunset is beside them.
But this sun will never set, as their heart approach the asymptote formed by their sins.
