1506 Rockford Rd

Summary:

Gail and Holly exchange Christmas presents and while Holly thought her present is quite easy to figure out it takes Gail a minute more than she hoped

Notes:

I know I'm late, or early with the Christmas present. But I found this in my WIP - Folder and thought it's about time to finish and upload. Hope you like it

Work Text:

Gail and Holly had been dating for about 2 years and have been living together for a little over one.

Christmas was just around the corner and Holly wanted to use the holidays to propose to Gail.

"Hey Love, I'm sorry I came home later than expected," Gail said as she entered their house. She found Holly in the kitchen cooking their dinner. After she placed a soft kiss on Holly's cheek she gazed into the pot.

"What's cooking good-looking?" The police officer asked. Holly couldn't help but chuckle. She turned her head and kissed the blonde on her lips.

"I thought I cook up some Coq au Vin after my mom's recipe. I hope you like it," Holly said against the other woman's lips. "These French-Canadians I tell you," Gail whispered and pulled away softly.

"Can I help you with anything?" Gail asked.

"You can set the table. We can have the leftover wine over there, dinner should be done in 10-15 minutes," Holly said as Gail was already walking towards their plate shelf.

Dinner was filled with easy and light conversation, Gail complained a little about the Rookie she was partnered with and the cases they had to work that day while Holly didn't talk much but mostly smiled at her girlfriend's quite metaphorical statements.

"Is everything alright love?" Gail asked as they were about to be done.

"Oh yes sure, I'm just enjoying the food," Holly deflected but continued to play with the bracelet Gail gave her for their one year anniversary.

"Do you have to go in tomorrow?" Holly eventually asked.

"Yes I have to do the early shift, Mom wants us to come over for dinner so I changed shifts. I start at 6am," Gail said as she rolled her eyes.

"You wanna exchange gifts today instead of tomorrow night?"

"Yes I would very much appreciate it," Gail replied as she was finishing her food, "by the way your food was delicious." Holly smiled proudly at herself. Gail often complimented whatever she cooked but it was something special for Holly to ace her Mom's recipe, especially considering that Gail had literally moaned the first time they had food her Mom had prepared.

They settled in front of the fireplace, beside the Christmas tree, cuddled under one blanket.

"You wanna go first?" Gail asked looking dreamily at the brunette.

"No, go ahead please," Holly said and placed a soft kiss on Gail's cheek.

"Okay, well it's nothing big but I hope you'll like it," Gail said as she pushed a small present in Holly's hands.

Holly carefully unwrapped it and found an black envelope as well as a black jewelry box.

"Shall I open the envelope or the box first?" Holly asked as she stared at the two black things currently in her hands.

Gail shrugged but nodded towards the box eventually. Holly did as asked and inside the box was a necklace with a single pendant attached to it. It was a heart with a light blue and dark brown stone interlaced with one another. It wasn't too big to be intrusive, but big enough to be seen if Holly wanted it to.

"Wow," was all Holly could say as she looked at the necklace.

"I hope you like it. It's supposed to be the same color as our eye color, just like you and me complement each other, those stones complement each other too. Do you like it?" Gail asked shyly.

"Like Gail? I love it. Would you mind?" Holly asked as she took the necklace out of the box. Gail beamed and carefully closed the necklace behind Holly's neck before she placed a soft kiss just below.

"I love you," she whispered and placed a second kiss on the brunette's neck. Holly smiled and leaned back so that she was lightly resting against Gail. "What is in the envelope love, I don't think you can top this though," Holly beamed as she turned her head to look at the blonde. She opened the envelope while her eyes were still trained on the blonde. As she had it open she pulled her eyes away to look at the second present and was amazed as she found tickets for a flight to Paris in hers and Gail's name.

"I know you always wanted to go to Paris during the Fête de la Musique," Gail whispered. Holly turned her head to kiss the blonde deeply. As air became an issue Holly pulled back and whispered, "I really am the luckiest woman on earth, I love you."

They leaned their foreheads against one another and simply took in each other's presence while Holly blindly reached for her present for Gail.

"Open it," she said as she put it in Gail's hands. Gail eyed it carefully and unlike Holly just tore the wrapping paper apart. Once she held it in her hand she got more confused.

"Holly, why are you gifting me a door sign?" Gail asked as she read it again and again 1506 Rockford Road, Family Peck .

"Look at it," Holly said with excitement in her voice. Gail knew she was missing something, she turned it around, upside down, left, right but no she didn't get why Holly stared at her as if Gail was holding her whole life in her hands.

"Holly, what am I missing?"

"You really don't see it? Can you read to me what is written there?"

"1506 Rockford Road, which is our address. Family Peck, which is my…" Gail stared at Holly in shock. She opened and closed her mouth again and again but no words came out.

"Holly," she said with an unstable voice. Gail cleared her throat and tried again, "why is there only the name Peck written on it instead of Stewart  & Peck as it is now?"

"What do you think it means?"

"Does this mean you want the two of us to become Peck's?" The blonde asked timidly.

"Well for now yes,  but eventually maybe us plus one or two Peck's more?" Holly beamed at the blonde before she fully turned in the blonde's arms and pulled something out of her back pocket.

"Do you want to marry me Gail?" Holly asked as she kneeled in front of Gail and held a ring between her fingers. Gail did not answer immediately but rather stared at the brunette.

It went on for a few unbearable long moments for Holly.

"Gail," she eventually whispered. Gail immediately leaned in and kissed the brunette.

"I'll take that as a yes?" Holly asked in between kisses. Gail stopped kissing Holly and pulled back for a moment to look at the brunette

"Yes Holly, a thousand times yes," Gail answered before she leaned in and kissed Holly once more.
