Wooley looked up as the distinctive shadow of Commander Cody fell across his lap. He had tucked himself away in an empty corner of camp to take a quiet moment. He smiled up at Cody. The face Cody made was less of a smile and more of a grimace.
Cody knelt next to Wooley and took his hand, pressing a dry kiss to his palm. They didn’t speak as Cody pressed a reverent hand to a gash in Wooley’s armour. He would have to get a new piece, if there were any left, or patch it before it killed him.
