Chapter Text
It was a clear sunny day in Dreamland and the son of Queen Miri and King Elfo, Elri was walking with his tiny ex demon guardian angle throughout town looking for something to do. The duo didn’t take long to find something when suddenly Luci heard commotion from people coming from a building, while the building didn’t look like a bar it did sound like one, and to Luci that could mean one thing.
“Hey look! A party! Looks big.”
Luci turns to Elri with a smile. “Wanna ‘check it out?’“
Elri knew what he meant for once.
“I don’t know… what if it’s a private event? We were never invited. We don’t even know what the party is for.”
“Well then let’s find out!” Luci said proudly.
“But Luci, it’ll just be awkward! Besides I’ve never been to a party before I wouldn’t know what to do there!” Replied Elri, trying hard not to get dragged into either an awkward conversation or another crime.
He hated awkward moments with a passion and it can get quite awkward waiting for mom and dad or whoever they send to come pick you up from the new local jail. Luci sighed and Elri hoped that he had given up on trying to make him crash the party with him, but was quickly proven wrong when Luci said:
“Of course you’ve never been to a party. Come on! We can make this your first party and you can see how great it is! Parties are supposed to be fun, dumb dumb! Besides it won’t be awkward unless you make it awkward by not having fun!”
Elri tried not to take offence to that first part but it was difficult. He also decided to give up, he had heard of parties and they did seem fun, and Luci’s reasoning didn’t seem to be totally made up stuff to convince him, and if he didn’t agree to this Elri knew that Luci would just end up dragging him into something far more worse. So Elri sighed in agreement as he started to walk towards the crowd.
“Alright Luci let’s go…”
Luci smiled as he had once again, successfully convinced Elri into doing something he shouldn’t have.
“Noice! Now let’s turn you from party-pooper to highlight of the parties!” Luci exclaimed.
Elri frowned but Luci didn’t care. Luci just responded with a mischievous smile. Elri recognized this smile and when he did he realized he had made a mistake.
At the out skirts of the party:
“So how are we gonna sneak in?”
Elri asked hoping Luci hadn’t thought this far ahead and they would just move on at the sight of security guard. Luci however, was not that type of guy.
“Easy, just walk on through the front, that guys probably just making sure murders don’t come into the party!” Luci reassured.
“So making sure people like you don’t come in?” Elri responsed dryly.
“They don’t know that.” Luci said confidently.
“Yet?”
“Exactly!”
Elri normally would’ve tried to turn back but he listened to Luci to see if this plan would backfire on him. That was an opportunity Elri didn’t want to pass on. Elri never got the last word.
So they walked on up to the party, or tried too.
“Halt!” Said the security guard.
“Why?” Asked Luci.
Elri could tell this would lead up to a fight already.
“Fundraiser party, 500 zog fee to get in, besides, no kids or pets allowed.” Replied the guard. This clearly annoyed Luci.
“1. I’m not a pet. 2. How do you know he’s under 18? And lastly, FIVE HUNDRED ZOG FEE?! TO GET INTO A PARTY? What kind of party are you throwing? It better be a good one!” Argued Luci.
“Sorry, but this is an adult’s fundraiser party for… uhm… research for plagues! Yeah…” the guard said nervously.
Luci and Elri looked at each other. They hadn’t known each other for long but they have been friends long enough to know what they were thinking through eye contact, and they were both thinking this was suspicious.
“Sooo, what kind of research?” Elri asked trying to see if the guard could make it anymore obvious he was lying.
“Research for… uh… animal wildlife!” The guard did end up making it more obvious.
Elri and Luci exchanged the ‘how stupid can he be?’ look. Luci, now more interested in interrogating the dumb guard than actually partying said; “That’s odd, we could’ve sworn this ‘fundraiser party’ was for plague research.”
The guard was clearly sweating nervously now. Luci smirked knowing there were already getting close to the truth of the so called ‘fundraiser party’ with a 500$ zog fee. Elri, though it didn’t show on his face, was also excited to see what event could possibly cost 500 zogs. He didn’t know a lot about parties, but he knew the average party wouldn’t have a 500 zog fee, at least based of Luci’s reaction to the fee. However this is when the guard gave up on using excuses.
“Alright that’s it! Back up!” Yelled the guard.
“What!?” Yelled back Elri.
“Run!” Luci screamed, knowing that should have been Elri’s first response, he’ll have to help him make that his first instinct.
Elri turned around and ran. He ran to main alley of dreamland. Luckily he was fast and the guards couldn’t find him after all the sharp turns he took. When Elri finally stopped he was panting on the ground. Luci, who took a ride on his shoulder, was just relieved they were in the clear.
“Wanna go back and try sneaking through the back? I bet the guards for that ‘party’ are all over dreamland now so we won’t have to worry about them being there!” Luci asked with excitement, he didn’t care about the response because he knew if he was demanding enough it was going to happen anyway.
“N-no… way!” Elri tried to yell, but he was still catching his breath. He took a second to continue, surprised that Luci was letting him. “Do you even hear yourself? There will be guards looking for us everywhere! Let’s just forget about and go home!” Elri complained. Of course Luci didn’t want to do that.
“What? Come on! Don’t you want to see what that dude was trying to hide!? He was obviously trying to cover something up! Let’s just go take a little peak! Do it! Do it, do it, do it! I can help you sneak in. I’m great at sneaking.” Luci said excitedly.
Elri decided not to respond with a “Of course you are.”. He hated getting into fights like that with Luci because Luci always won. So he just responded with; “Fine let’s go. Just a peak though! In and out.”
Luci made the usual smirk he made before he made someone do something they would regret doing. “In and out.” Luci said. He wasn’t sure, but Elri thought that he used the ‘making a promise I won’t keep’ tone but he decided now was not the time to bring it up.
Getting past the guards spread around town was easy as they were already distracted drinking and talking to each other. Once they finally reached the ‘party’ they knew it was best to go in from the back.
“How are we going to get to the back?” Elri asked realizing that they couldn’t see any easy way to get there as the building was attached to many other buildings on the side.
“Follow me!” Luci said sounding quite confident. Elri followed Luci as he made little noises like “inka binka” or “skit skat”. Sometimes Elri found it annoying but most of the time it was quite fun to listen to. He was never sure why Luci did it, but it was a nice white noise. After finally getting to the end of the building made of multiple buildings, Luci walked through the alley easily while Elri had to dodge low beams that did seemingly nothing for the building it was attached too.
“Luci! Wait up! I don’t have your weird liquid body power thingy.”
Once Elri finally got past the obstacles from the side of the building, it was an easy walk behind the buildings. After a few minutes they finally reached the building they were looking for. It had taken them awhile to decide which building in the building they were actually looking for but they eventually found it through another cheer Luci recognized from earlier.
“Aw man! It’s locked!” Elri ‘complained’ as he jiggled the knob on the wooden door, he did a pretty good job in seeming disappointed but nothing could get past Luci.
“Let me try. There’s gotta be a way in through here.” Luci said. He did try using the knob only to find out Elri was in fact right.
“Told ya.” Elri responded with the most sass he had ever used around Luci before. Luci didn’t respond to that, instead he just slipped under the door using the power Elri was highly jealous of and tried the other side of the door. There, Luci had successfully opened the door, greeting Elri with yet another grin.
“Told ya.”
“I was still right about it being lo-“
Elri was interrupted by Luci’s shush as now they would have to be quiet. Luci pointed towards a table which seemed to be surrounded by everyone else in the building. Luci hoped onto Elri’s shoulder and whispered: “Try and get closer, just stick to the wall!”
Elri nodded and pressed his back against the wall and slowly walked towards the part of the wall closest to the table. “Once they’re distracted, we’ll sneak in through here!” The person on the end of the table said, pushing what seemed to be figurines to another side of the table. Although Elri was confused, Luci already knew what this was; a plan to takeover the castle. He wasn’t sure why considering the kingdom has never been in a better condition for everyone ever since Zog was no longer in charge, but, he also didn’t care, to him this was the one thing better then a secret party, a secret revolution.
“What are they doing?” Elri asked Luci, although he whispered it wasn’t quiet enough to avoid attention and the entire crowd around the table turned to look at them.
“Hey! It’s intruders!” One of them yelled.
“Look! One of them is that dumb little prince!” Chimed in what seemed to be the leader of the group.
“Hey! I’m not dumb and lit-“. Before Elri could finish his defensive complaint a blade was thrown towards him, although it landed on the wall beside his face it did leave a cut on Elri’s cheek. Elri touched the cut and looked to see the first bit of blood he would see hanging out with Luci. Before Elri could react more weapons were being brought out.
“Run!” Luci yelled at Elri, loud enough to pull Elri out of shock. Elri looked up from his hand.
“Huh?”
Elri saw another person getting ready to throw a knife.
“AH!”
Elri screamed as he ran just in time to dodge a knife that other wise would have stabbed his face. Elri ran for the front door this time. Passing guards who just got back quickly. Elri went uphill to castle and luckily a lot of the people chasing him were too tired to chase him uphill. Especially the armed guards. However there were still quite a few on his tail.
“Get him!” They screamed. Luci, still on Elri shoulders, used his fire power as range weapon against the small mob, normally Elri would’ve tried to not have Luci do that, but this he didn’t care and pretended not to notice his attacks.
“We’re almost there!” Elri cheered as he saw the castle and the turn he was about to make that would lead him straight to the main entrance.
“Noice!” Luci cheered as he threw another fireball towards the mob, this time hitting two. Elri made the corner only to be disappointed that the drawbridge was closed.
“Oh no! We can’t go in!” Elri said to Luci who was now paying attention after giving up his attacks when they kept missing.
“Ugh, keep running I’ll meet you there…” Luci complained as he started to fly towards the castle to move the quite heavy drawbridge opener. By the time Luci started moving it Elri was already at the edge of the river waiting.
“They’re catching up! Hurry!” Elri yelled, worried what kind of punishment they would put him through now that they’re already by the remains of what was once a statue of Zog.
“I’m trying!” Luci complained through gritted teeth. After getting halfway through a full turn the chains started to losen and it started turning itself fast, opening the drawbridge. Elri ran as fast as he could to the other side and ran straight for the guard tower above the drawbridge. By the time he got there the mob was almost already at the entrance.
“If you really don’t want them to kill you will you come help me move this thing?” Luci snapped as he was trying to move the drawbridge back up. Elri grabbed part of the wheel to help Luci, but before he started to move it he got a better plan.
“Just a second Luci!” Elri exclaimed. He darted towards the other side of the guard tower.
“Where are you going? Do you want them to get in?” Luci asked angrily. Elri ignored him and pulled down a lever that dropped down the fence part of the door.
“Now they can’t get in!” Elri explained happily. He was then proven by the whines of the mob.
“Oh.” Luci said at the realization that he could have done that instead of pushing the wheel back. “Well we should probably still put the drawbridge up.” Luci continued.
Elri smiled knowing he secretly won this round and helped him with the drawbridge. After they finally got the drawbridge up, they started to head back. Suddenly after they started to leave they heard a laugh, the sound came from the side of the tower. Elri and Luci looked at each other and went to look over the side.
“What the hell?” Luci asked after seeing what made the laughter. It was a dankmirian hanging onto the walls by, literal, suction cups.
“You’ll never stop the revolution! One day-“ those were the last words of the man before an arrow hit him right in the head.
“Who did that?” Luci asked as they watched the now corpse loosen his hands against the wall and fall into the waterfall.
“Oopsie!” Yelled Turbish.
“Oh, it’s Turbish, looks like he was finally useful.” Replied Luci dryly.
“We did it Luci!” Elri cheered.
“Did what? Turbish is the one who killed that guy.” Luci asked.
“We got away without getting murdered!” Replied Elri happily.
“Almost. Are you alright?” Luci said pointing at Elri’s new scar in concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine, I think we should see a nurse about it or something though.” Elri replied heading back into the castle.
“Good, cause we’re committing a crime tomorrow!” Luci said proudly. Elri, not surprised, asked what the crime was.
“I don’t know, probably arson, it’s my favourite next to murder.” Luci replied casually as if committing serious crimes was part of his daily tasks. They were, just less on his schedule nowadays.
