Chapter 1: Two new leaders

Chapter Text

It had been just under a week since Martyn's crowning. King of the jungle or “Kingle” as he called himself much to his mothers dismay, he and his father thought it was a funny play on words. Martyn's parents were fairly relaxed about being leaders of a prestigious claim. Well now ex-leaders. Martyn had risen up. Now commanding over a claim that's well over 800 years old. His parents had one rule and one rule only; they trusted him to handle everything else. Martyn had been training for this ever since he turned 18. Now he's 34 therefore he's well prepared. However, Martyn has one downfall, he's too kind-hearted. So there's one rule his parents have bestowed upon him before that set off on their retirement. Don't fraternise with the Dark-Oak Claim. Martyn knew well about the history between the two claims. It was down right horrifying, the Dark-Oak people for centuries tormented and tortured the Jungle. The past leaders quite recently had been assassinated by a rebellious gang that lives on the border of the Dark-Oak and Jungle forest. Now a new leader stepped up around 2 years ago, apparently only 28 quite young for a leader. According to his parents, the new leader is trying to make amends. They believe it's a trick, a Trojan Horse of some kind. Looking at their history, can you blame them?

When the new leader first came into power he almost immediately built a bridge over the river that separates the two biomes. They left a note on the bridge.

“Dear Jungle People, this is a gift from the new leader of the Dark-Oak claim. I hope that this bridge can commemorate a new start between us -Sincerely Saint Jim Jeans”

What kind of title was that? ‘Saint Jim Jeans' it was quite ridiculous. “A new start” that's ridiculous after everything they've done. Easy to say they burned the bridge down quickly. There's other instances of this “Saint” being suspiciously nice. A jungle traveller returned from a long journey to the ruined portal in the centre of all the biomes. He was distressed, rambling on about how he'd been poisoned. Apparently, he was on the verge of dying from dehydration and hunger, a bit dramatic, and a person wearing pristine robes, draped in dangly, golden jewellery approached him. According to the traveller, he was also wearing jeans under his robes, quite out of place. The person gave him some water and bread, after downing the water and inhaling the bread only then he asked who the kind person was. Much to the horror of the traveller he introduced himself as the new leader of the Dark-Oak claim. After coughing; desperately trying to throw up the food he was just given, the traveller dashed towards home; probably leaving the leader confused. The traveller was in the infirmary for around 2 weeks, constantly blabbering about how he was destined to perish. Even though his vitals showed no sign of any symptoms. Probably a placebo effect, the nurse said. Safe to say, he's still travelling to this day. Not dead of poison.

Now Martyn's been crowned, every claim has now got a new leader. This means Scott, the sort of leader of all leaders, has organised a meeting for all the new leaders to meet. Scott, being the regular Plains claim leader, was the first to be crowned of this new generation therefore he's taken it upon himself to be in charge. Martyn's heading over there now just saying goodbye to his parents. When he comes back they won't be there, they're off on their retirement. Martyn's finding it scary, leading a claim is a demanding task after all.
