Here she was again another boring day in school , at least it was almost a weekend,meeting up with everyone else… well everyone except Rei,it’s not that she didn’t enjoy spending time with everyone else. But it was different with Rei,even when she wasn’t there Usagi was constantly thinking about her,her midnight purple eyes flashing in her mind, or her dark hair flowing in the wind.
She admitted she may have a crush on Rei,but it’s not like she could ask her out,even if she did she probably wouldn’t say agree to a date. how would she even go about asking her? It was just a stupid day dream and she should just forget abou-
Her train of thought was interupted by the grating noise of a school bell ringing.
“Damn it.” she silently cursed under her breath,dreading the day especially since today she had math, her only reprise being the fact it was a friday.
After managing to get through another slog of a school day she silently took a spot next to her friends,not really bothering to eat.
“Usagi are you feeling alright? ‘you haven’t even touched your food.” Mako stated.
“Are you feeling sick?”Ami asked.
“We can take you to the nurses office if you are.” Minako offered.
“Guys I’m fine,i just have something on my mind.”Usagi said
“Well,what’s going on you know you can tell us.”Mako stated .
She hesitated for a bit but ultimately deciding she could tell them.
“Ok fine, but under one condition… you can’t tell Rei.”
“Of course but can I ask why?” Ami said.
“Because….”she leaned in closer “I have a crush on her.” Usagi quietly said.
“Oh, is that all?Mina exclaimed.
“Wha- I thought you’d be more surprised?”
“Well It’s just that...”Ami said
“You’re horrible at hiding it.” Mako finished her sentence.
“Guy’s let’s not get sidetracked here” Minako continued “why haven’t you asked her out yet?”
“I can’t, what if she doesn’t want to talk to me anymore, or starts outright hating me?” she panicked.
“Usagi,what a horrible thought.” Ami contnued. “ none of us could ever hate you no matter what you do.”
“Yea,you’re our friend, and I’m sure Rei feels the same as us.” Mako said.
“see you should ask her out tonight.” Minako insisted.
“Even if she doesn’t hate me, it’s not like she’d say yes.”Usagi said.
“she will.”Minako replied in an exasperated tone.
“How could you know that?”
“because she’s horrible at hiding it too.” Mako chimed in .
“I was surprised honestly I was under the impression they were already dating and just hadn’t told us about it.” Ami added
“let’s say she does say yes what would we even do?” Usagi continued.
“I have no ideas for a decent date.”
“You could have a picnic. The weather is quite nice this time of year”Ami replied.
“That’s… actually not a bad idea”Usagi admitted. “but I’m still worried.”
“about what?”Minako asked.
“It’s just a scary.”Usagi sheepishly said.
“You fight youma every day and you’re scared of asking someone out on a date?”Ami stated matter of factly.
“That’s different,Rei’s just so… well you know how she is.”
“No usagi we don’t know how Rei is would you mind indulging us?” Minako said with a smug grin.
“She’s just so perfect a-and cool,I just want to make sure if I do ask her out I do it perfectly.”Usagi tried (and failed) to hide a blush that was rising to her cheeks.
“Usagi..” Mako said thinking about her next words. “you can’t ask Rei out perfectly,no one can ask someone else perfectly. It’ll probably be messy and a bit confusing, the sooner you accept that the sooner you can stop tourting yourself.”She moved her head to look at Ami’s eyes and put her hand on her’s.
“fine I’ll do it.” Usagi conceded. “but if she starts hating me it’s your job to fix it.”
“good enough for us.” Minako said.
…
“I think that just about covers it “ Ami announced “it’s getting late anyway we should be getting out of Rei’s hair.”
Minako and Mako both understood that was the cue to leave the room. They quickly stuffed their bags and said their goodbyes to Rei and Usagi.
“any clue why those three were in such a hurry to leave?”
“oh uh haha no clue but I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”Usagi said quickly pulling herself together.
“no you can’t borrow my manga.”Rei flatly said.
“no It’s something else, that I've been meaning to ask for a while now.” Usagi felt a whirpool of emotions,feeling nervous even more so than if she were fighting the biggest meanest youma she’d ever seen.
“well,what is it?”Rei asked.
“right..Rei, would you,God I sound so stupid,would you like to go on a date? With me?”
Rei stood there like a deer caught in headlights, dumbfounded at the sudden declaration of love Usagi had made.
“I...I’m sorry I’ll leave,you’re probably angry with me.” She felt a tear roll down her cheek.
She began to run to the doors until she felt a hand pull her back.
“Usagi wait.” Rei said.”Don’t leave,I’m not angry at you.”
“R-really?” Usagi sniffed.
“of course not,Usagi,I do.”
“what?”
“I do want to go on a date with you.”Rei confessed.
“REALLY?” Usagi’s eyes lit up with joy,not being able to calm her nerves she forgot to use her indoor voice.
“yes,now please keep it down before my grandpa wakes up.”Rei ended with a laugh.
“then how does a picnic sound? At 11 tommorow?” Usagi excitedly said.
“lovley, see you tommorow?”
“see you tommorow,and promise me you won’t be late?”
“I promise.”
Usagi walked out of the shrine happy as can be while Rei closed the door behind her.
