Little Isamu

Summary:

Grimmjow walked over and ruffled Isamu’s hair gently.

“You don’t have to be shy around us, Isamu. We’re family. We’re your parents. Anything you need, we’re here for you.”

Notes:

I listened to Play by Jesse while working on this.

I think it's fitting for me to end this series here. I enjoyed working on this and appreciate everyone that stuck around 🥹🫂.

Work Text:

Isamu clutched his small backpack tightly, his eyes wide with curiosity and shyness as he stood on the doorstep of his new home. Ichigo and Grimmjow exchanged a look, both sensing the boy’s nervousness. Ichigo knelt down to Isamu’s level, offering a warm, reassuring smile.

“Hey there, Isamu. Welcome home,” Ichigo said gently. Grimmjow, standing tall beside Ichigo, softened his usual tough demeanor, his eyes kind as he looked at their new son.

“We’re really happy you’re here, kid.”

Isamu nodded, his grip on his backpack loosening slightly. He took a hesitant step forward, glancing around the spacious living room. The house felt big, almost overwhelming, but it also felt warm and inviting. Ichigo stood and held out his hand.

“Come on, let’s show you your room. I think you’re going to like it.”

Isamu took Ichigo’s hand, his small fingers gripping tightly. They walked down the hallway, Grimmjow following closely behind. When they reached the door to Isamu’s new room, Ichigo paused, his hand resting on the doorknob.

“Ready?” Ichigo asked, looking down at Isamu. The little boy nodded, his eyes wide with anticipation. Ichigo opened the door, and Isamu stepped inside. The room was filled with bright colors and fun decorations. There were shelves with books and toys, a large cozy bed with soft blankets, a lot of pillows and stuffed animals, and a desk with a ton of art supplies neatly arranged.

“This is all for me?” Isamu whispered, his voice filled with wonder.

“Yep, all yours,” Grimmjow said, stepping into the room. “And if there’s anything else you want, we can always get it for you.”

Isamu walked around the room, touching everything gently as if to make sure it was real. His eyes lit up when he saw all the drawing supplies on the table.

“We can draw together whenever you want”, Grimmjow told him as he watched Isamu explore the room, a sense of pride and protectiveness swelling in his chest. “There’s something else I want to show you. Come with me.”

Isamu looked at Ichigo, who nodded encouragingly. They followed Grimmjow to the backyard. When they stepped outside, Isamu’s eyes grew even wider. Grimmjow had built an elaborate play set, complete with swings, a slide, and a small climbing wall.

“Wow,” Isamu breathed, taking in the sight.

“I built it for you,” Grimmjow said, his voice gruff but filled with affection. “Thought you might like having a place to play outside.”

Isamu walked over to the play set, touching the swings and climbing the ladder carefully. He looked back at Grimmjow and Ichigo, unshed tears sitting in his eyes as shy smile spreading across his face.

“Thank you,” he said softly.

“You’re welcome, buddy,” Ichigo replied, his heart swelling with love for the shy, brave boy. Grimmjow walked over and ruffled Isamu’s hair gently.

“You don’t have to be shy around us, Isamu. We’re family. We’re your parents. Anything you need, we’re here for you.”

Isamu nodded, feeling a sense of belonging he had never felt before. He ran back to the play set, starting to climb the ladder with more confidence. Ichigo and Grimmjow watched, their hearts full.

As Isamu played, the sound of his laughter filled the air, mixing with the gentle rustle of the trees. Ichigo leaned into Grimmjow, who wrapped an arm around him. They stood together, watching their son play.

Isamu stood at the entrance of his preschool, clinging tightly to Ichigo’s leg. His small fingers gripped Ichigo's jeans, and his eyes were wide with anxiety as he watched the other children running around, playing with blocks, and chatting with each other. Grimmjow crouched down to Isamu's level, his left hand resting reassuringly on the boy’s shoulder.

“You’re gonna do great, kid,” Grimmjow said, his voice firm but gentle. “It’s just like playing at home, but with more friends.”

Isamu looked up at Grimmjow, his eyes shimmering with uncertainty.

“But what if they don’t like me?”

Ichigo knelt down beside Grimmjow, offering Isamu a warm smile.

“They’ll like you, Isamu. You’re a wonderful kid. Just be yourself, and you’ll make lots of friends.” He gently ruffled Isamu’s hair. “Remember how much fun we had building that fort in the backyard? You can tell them about that. Kids love forts.”

Isamu nodded slightly, though he still looked unsure. Grimmjow reached out and gently turned Isamu to face him.

“And if anyone gives you a hard time, you let them know you’ve got two dads who can kick some serious butt, okay?” He winked, making Isamu giggle a little. Ichigo gave Grimmjow a playful nudge.

“Not that you’ll need to, because everyone here is super nice.”

The preschool teacher, a kind-looking woman with a bright smile, approached them.

“Hi there, Isamu! My name is Ms. Hana. We’re so excited to have you here today. Do you want to come see the blocks and meet some of the other kids?”

Isamu hesitated for a moment, glancing back at Ichigo and Grimmjow. Ichigo gave him an encouraging nod.

“Go on, buddy. We’ll be right here if you need us.”

Taking a deep breath, Isamu let go of Ichigo’s leg and took Ms. Hana’s hand. She led him over to a group of children who were building a tall tower of colorful blocks. Isamu stood there for a moment, watching them, before one of the boys turned to him and smiled.

“Hi! I’m Taro. Do you want to help us build this tower?” Isamu’s eyes lit up, and he nodded enthusiastically.

“Yes!”

Ichigo and Grimmjow watched from a distance, their hearts swelling with pride as Isamu joined the other children. He carefully picked up a block and placed it on the tower, grinning as it grew taller.

Grimmjow wrapped an arm around Ichigo’s shoulders, pulling him close.

“See? He’s gonna be just fine.” Ichigo leaned into Grimmjow, smiling softly.

“Yeah, he is. Our little guy is braver than he thinks.”

They stood there for a while, watching Isamu laugh and play with his new friends, feeling a sense of joy and relief that their son was settling in so well. As the tower of blocks toppled over and the children burst into giggles, Isamu glanced back at his dads, giving them a thumbs-up. Ichigo and Grimmjow returned the gesture, their smiles reflecting the pride and love they felt for their son.

The late afternoon sky darkened with heavy clouds as rain began to fall, its soft patter creating a soothing melody against the windows. Inside their cozy home, Grimmjow sat at the kitchen table, reviewing architectural plans spread out before him. The steady rhythm of the rain brought a sense of calm, a welcome break from the usual hustle and bustle of their lives.

In the living room, Isamu was sprawled on the fluffy carpet, surrounded by an array of colorful crayons, colour pencils and paper. His green eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as he meticulously drew a lion, his favorite animal. Grimmjow glanced over and couldn't help but smile at the sight of his son so engrossed in his artwork.

"Dad, look! It's a lion!" Isamu called out, holding up his drawing for Grimmjow to see.

Grimmjow's smile widened as he admired the vibrant illustration.

"That's amazing, Isamu. You’ve got a real talent for drawing animals."

Isamu beamed with pride, his attention already shifting to his next project.

"Thanks, Dad. I’m gonna draw a whole jungle next."

As Isamu set to work on his new creation, Ichigo entered the room, a warm smile on his face. He had just finished a session with a patient and was looking forward to spending time with his family. He walked over to Grimmjow, planting a gentle kiss on his cheek before ruffling Isamu's hair.

"Hey, you two. How's it going?" Ichigo asked, his voice filled with affection.

Grimmjow leaned back in his chair, looking up at his husband with a relaxed expression.

"Just watching our little artist at work." Isamu looked up from his drawing, his excitement evident.

"Daddy, can we build a fort later?" Ichigo chuckled, glancing at Grimmjow.

"What do you think?"

Grimmjow nodded, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Absolutely. How could we say no to that face?"

With that, the family sprang into action. Grimmjow and Ichigo helped Isamu gather blankets, pillows, and chairs to construct the ultimate indoor fort. Laughter filled the room as they worked together, each contributing to the makeshift hideaway. Isamu's eyes shone with joy, his enthusiasm contagious.

Once the fort was complete, Isamu crawled inside, arranging his stuffed animals and art supplies around him.

"This is the best fort ever!" he declared, his voice muffled by the blankets.

Grimmjow and Ichigo exchanged a proud glance, knowing that these simple moments meant the world to their son. The family settled into their cozy creation, sharing stories and laughter.

Ichigo leaned into Grimmjow, his eyes never leaving Isamu.

"He’s going to do great things."

Ichigo and Grimmjow were wrapped up in each other, their breaths mingling as they kissed passionately on their bed.

“Could you be any sexier?”, Grimmjow groaned as he buried his face in the crook of Ichigo’s neck, taking in his scent as the grinded against each other’s bodies.

“For you, of course~”, the orangette nearly moaned while stretching his neck out a little to give his husband more access to him.

Suddenly, a faint, rapid knocking on the bedroom door broke through the haze. Ichigo pulled out one earbud, sitting up as he heard the knocking again, more insistent this time.

"Dad? Daddy?" Isamu’s small voice quivered from the other side of the door, filled with fear and desperation. Grimmjow being the closest to the door, swung his legs over the side of the bed, quickly making his way to the door. He opened it to find Isamu standing there, clutching one of his stuffed animals tightly to his chest, his eyes wide and tear streaked.

"Hey, buddy, what's wrong?" Grimmjow asked, crouching down to Isamu’s level, his voice gentle and soothing.

"I had a bad dream," Isamu whispered, his lower lip trembling. "A very bad dream?"

Grimmjow’s heart softened as he saw their little boy's distress.

“Can I sleep here.” Grimmjow nodded, holding out his hand.

"Of course, come here."

But instead of accepting the hand he was offered, Isamu threw himself at Grimmjow, nearly causing them both to tumble. He held onto the blunette so tightly as he stood and carried the little boy into he and Ichigo’s spacious room. He placed him on the bed and imediately found his way to Ichigo, burying his face into the orangette’s chest. Ichigo felt fresh tears making their way through the cotton of his shirt.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Ichigo asked, sitting on the edge of the bed and brushing a hand through Isamu’s tousled hair. The boy looked up from Ichigo’s chest, his eyes still wide with residual fear.

"It was really scary daddy”, the little boy cried. “I was being chased by a scary monster. I ran so fast, but the monster still got me”, his little voice broke as he explained.

"We’re sorry buddy," Grimmjow said softly as he crawled into bed. "You're safe here." He laid down beside Isamu, the small boy curling up against him. The blunette’s arm wrapped protectively around him.

"Thank you, dad," Isamu mumbled, already half-asleep, yet still managing to wrap his little arms around the blunette’s neck.

"Anytime, kiddo," Grimmjow whispered back, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead.

With Isamu nestled safely against him, Grimmjow stayed awake a little longer, watching his husband and their son sleep. At some point Ichigo threw his arm into the mix. It landed over Isamu and Grimmjow. He made sure their son and his husband were sound asleep before closing his own eyes.

Isamu stood at the window, his small hands pressed against the cool glass as he watched the raindrops race each other down the pane. His eyes were wide with excitement, his breath fogging up the glass as he leaned closer.

"Dad, Daddy! It's raining!" he called out, his voice filled with pure delight. Ichigo, who had been in the kitchen finishing up dinner, looked up and smiled. He loved seeing Isamu so happy, and he knew exactly what their little boy wanted.

"Grimm, I think we've got a little rain enthusiast here," Ichigo called out to Grimmjow, who was in the living room sketching some designs for an upcoming project.

Grimmjow looked up, a grin spreading across his face.

"Yeah? Well, we can't let him have all the fun by himself, can we?"

Ichigo chuckled and walked over to Isamu, crouching down beside him.

"You wanna go play in the rain, Isamu?" he asked, ruffling the boy's dark hair.

Isamu nodded eagerly, his eyes sparkling. "Yes, please!"

"Alright, let's get our boots on," Ichigo said, standing up and heading towards the closet to fetch their rain gear. Grimmjow joined them, helping Isamu into his little raincoat and boots.

"Ready to get soaked, little man?" he asked, lifting Isamu up and carrying him to the door. Isamu giggled, wrapping his arms around Grimmjow's neck.

"Yeah! Let's go!"

They stepped outside, the cool rain immediately starting to soak through their clothes. Ichigo and Grimmjow exchanged a look and a smile before setting Isamu down on the wet grass.

Isamu ran ahead, splashing in the puddles and laughing with pure joy. Ichigo and Grimmjow followed, their own laughter mixing with his.

"Dad, Daddy, look! I'm a frog!" Isamu declared, hopping from one puddle to another. Grimmjow laughed, shaking his head.

"You're the best frog I've ever seen, Isamu!" Ichigo joined in, crouching down beside Isamu and pretending to hop like a frog too.

"Ribbit, ribbit," he said, making Isamu laugh even harder. Grimmjow watched them, a warm feeling spreading through his chest. Seeing Ichigo and Isamu like this, so carefree and happy, made all the challenges worth it. He walked over and scooped up Isamu, spinning him around in the rain. Isamu squealed with delight, his arms outstretched.

"Again, Daddy, again!"

Grimmjow obliged, spinning him around until they were both dizzy. Ichigo joined in, grabbing Isamu's hands and dancing with him in the rain.

Eventually, they all collapsed onto the wet grass, breathless and laughing. Isamu snuggled between them, his eyes shining with happiness.

"This was the best day ever," he declared, looking up at Ichigo and Grimmjow. Ichigo smiled, leaning over to kiss Isamu's forehead.

"Every day with you is the best day ever, buddy." Grimmjow nodded, ruffling Isamu's hair.

"Couldn't agree more."

The house buzzed with anticipation as Ichigo and Grimmjow prepared for their family to meet Isamu for the first time. The doorbell rang, and Isamu, a bit shy but curious, clung to Ichigo's hand as they went to greet their guests.

Isshin, Ichigo’s father, burst through the door first, his usual exuberant self.

“Ichigo! My beloved son! And this must be my new grandson!” He scooped Isamu up into a bear hug, spinning him around. “Look at you, such a handsome little man!”

Isamu giggled nervously, glancing back at Ichigo, who nodded reassuringly.

“It’s okay, Isamu. This is Grandpa Isshin. He’s always like this.”

Karin and Yuzu followed closely behind. Karin, with her tomboyish demeanor, gave Isamu a gentle punch on the arm.

“Hey, kiddo. You like soccer? We’ll have to play sometime.”

Yuzu, ever the sweet and nurturing one, crouched down to Isamu’s level and handed him a small box of cookies.

“Hi, Isamu! I made these just for you. I hope you like them.” Isamu accepted the cookies with wide eyes.

“Thank you,” he said softly, his shyness starting to melt away.

Next came Geneviève and Gerard, Grimmjow’s parents. Geneviève, elegant and warm, embraced Isamu gently.

“Hello, Isamu. I’m your Grandma Geneviève. It’s wonderful to finally meet you.” She gave him a kiss on the forehead. Gerard, a towering and stoic figure, nodded approvingly.

“Welcome to the family, Isamu.” His deep voice was kind but firm.

Lastly, Neliell, Grimmjow’s lively and spirited sister, bounded over.

“Hey there, squirt! I’m Aunt Neliell. Bet you didn’t know you had such a cool aunt, huh?” She winked at him.

Isamu looked around at all the new faces, feeling a bit overwhelmed but also excited. Grimmjow put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

“It’s a lot of people, huh? Don’t worry, they’re all here because they’re happy you’re a part of the family.”

Isshin, never one to miss an opportunity for drama, wiped an imaginary tear from his eye.

“Our family is growing! I’m so proud!” Ichigo rolled his eyes but smiled.

“Dad, you’re embarrassing him.”

They all moved into the living room, where a spread of snacks and drinks awaited. Isamu stayed close to Ichigo and Grimmjow at first but slowly started to relax as the conversation flowed around him. Gerard and Isshin talked about old times, whileGeneviève and Yuzu discussed cooking recipes. Karin and Neliell, always competitive, started a playful argument about who was better at sports.

As the afternoon went on, Isamu found himself being drawn into various conversations. Yuzu showed him how to decorate cookies, while Isshin and Gerard told him funny stories about Ichigo and Grimmjow when they were younger. Karin and Neliell even managed to coax him into a mini soccer game in the backyard.

Grimmjow watched with a mixture of pride and relief as Isamu laughed and played, fitting in perfectly with both sides of the family. Ichigo came up beside him, slipping an arm around his waist.

“He’s doing great, isn’t he?” Grimmjow nodded.

“Yeah, he is. He’s a tough little guy.”

As the sun began to set and the evening drew to a close, everyone gathered around for a family photo. Isamu sat in the center, flanked by Ichigo and Grimmjow, with the rest of the family surrounding them. Just as the camera was about to click, Isshin leaned over and ruffled Isamu’s hair, causing him to giggle.

The photo captured a moment of pure happiness, the first of many for their newly expanded family.
