The Stars Above Us

Notes:

So I’m finally back after a year! If you know I took a breaks on writing but I think I’m back!
I wanted to start off with oneshot before continuing my actual books. I started and finished this today, and it took me roughly about 6 hours and I tried to edit but I’ll look over it again later.

Enjoy!

Edited June 4th for some minor changes****

Work Text:

He froze, eyes wide as a green spell has nearly grazed the brunette in front of him who stood equally as still. Green clashed against the warm brown eyes that stood across from him. Brown hair that was usually in a beautiful neat array of curls was now only described as wild and just as beautiful. Blue and silver linings were stained with deep ruby red that was painted across the robes only standing out in the colored section. The grip on his had not slacked, even when lost with the sight in front of him.

This was not the first time he had seen that ruby color.

Loud explosions and screams had to seem to fade in the background.

drip

drip

drip

Was all the vibrate color had made. Scarlet slithered from the now saturated gleaming inky robes that were once matte. His eyes had shut quickly.

Focus.

“Hermione! Are you alright?!” He had not even heard himself shout as all the chaos that had bordering them suddenly surfaced all at once.

”Just perfect, thanks for your concern!” Her usually soft voiced dropped in sarcasm. He huffed a chuckle when he met the smile across from him. The two best friends stood in place. Neither of them shifted; only stood motionless. Those same mellow eyes had seemed void from the sparkle that he first saw 6 years ago. That cheekily smile seemed glum, not real. He had once remembered seeing that smile so radiant in those same 6 years ago. Even with the now demised body of one of Grindelwald’s followers in between them where once a compartment door stood in front of them.

Oh, how times had changed.

In the quick point he had blinked his friends eyes had become wide one more, her mouth moving

“Harry! Levicorpus!”

Suddenly, he was upside down and above the ground where a red spell had hit causing the ground below him to detonate into pieces.

He wasn’t surprised.

”You need to be more aware of your surroundings, especially now.” He heard when he was lowered to the ground. He only nodded, gripping the witches wrist to pull her to the side when another green spell was sent in their direction.

”You should be aware of you surroundings Hermione.” He mocked, earning him a glare.

”Alright, quit this! We’re quite literally on a battleground for Godric’s sake!”

”Stupefy!” It slipped his mind if he was being honest.

He looked behind him. The place he had grown up in, discovered he was a wizard, and where he met his family had began to crumble in that moment. The cobble stone walls starting with Astronomy wing had begun to fallen. He watched as more screams and gasps filled the air momentarily frozen in his spot. The giants had let out a cry as the walls of the previously complete castle fell upon the wizards and witches below them, ultimately crushing them.

More scarlet had colored the damp ground. He only winced when he felt a hex sting his side.

He turned around. Wizards, witches, giants, vampires, centaurs, and many more had packed the battleground.

Spells and arrows along with trees as well were thrown.

He had watched how one of the giants had drained a group of wizards and witches along with centaurs with its bare foot.

It was an unsettling sight.

Right in front of him, a sixth year Hufflepuff had fell to the ground. He had known her. Her name was Connie Leveret.

She was a halfblood with both of her parents being squibs educated by the magical world. Her golden hair was pulled back in two bubble braids, stained with red. The Hufflepuff robes had complimented her golden hair, Harry thought. She was a sweet girl. Cheery and determinated. She was only a year younger than him; he met her through Ginny who was also in the same year as the girl. She had always been kind to Harry. He could count the times where she had talked to him about the magical creatures she took care of. That same girl had shared her interests and friendship with him now laid lifeless by his shoes. Her larch 10 inch wand with a core of troll whiskers had rolled out of her grip. The bright green sparks had died down immediately. The wand went motionless. A crack had severed the wand as the final green sparks died out. Just like the pale green eyes had lost their life.

Her murderer stood in front of him. A women with a midnight colored bob. Her red lips showed the sharp smile sent in his direction. Icy blue eyes craving for bloodlust. His eyes had set on her chest where a circle had set in a triangle, a line severed down it. He didn’t think twice.

“Sectumsempra!” Was all that left his mouth in a heartbeat.

The red lips had screaming in agony. Red had begun to burst in every direction of the women. Red had gripped the necklace that hung from her neck.

”You’ll pay for this Potter!” She screeched, blooding spilling out her mouth. She fell on all fours when her arm had reached back to the necklace. The dark soil under them had become damp. All he then heard was was wheezing is when he decided to turn around.

He could make out Hermione’s fighting beside a familiar round faced Hufflepuff.

He sprinted wand pointed, spells spilling out his mouth at a wizard that wore black robes and mask, watching as the man had flew into a statue behind him.

”Grindelwald’s followers are not letting up!” The boy had said.

”Neither are these death eaters! Foul roaches.” Hermione huffed in ire. That is when Harry had arrived.

”Neville, mate are you alright? I haven’t seen you since the Grand Hall.” Harry shouted, blasting another death eater that had been sneaking behind his friends. A sigh of relief was heard

“Thanks mate. I’m fine, but I lost Ginny when the Grand Hall had been raided.”

The 3 had turned around, backs linking up as they took sight to the attackers around them.

”I’m sure she’s alright, we— Locomotor Mortis! We’ll find her once we get out of our little situation…”

Only then Harry noticed the amount of Death eaters and Grindelwald’s followers surrounding them.

Well, that was until they begun to attack each other. They made a run for it.

They, the Hogwarts students were fighting against both Voldemort’s and Grindelwald’s followers when they were suddenly dragged because of a dispute Dumbledore had with the two lords. But, that’s when Harry realized after her scanned around.

“Guys..” he trailed off “Dumbledore’s gone.”

”What do you mean ‘gone’? Surely he’s here.” Hermione had peaked her head out from behind the wrecked statue.

”it’s only you-know-who and Grindelwald, look!” Neville’s scuffed hand points out, drawing his friends attention.

”What the hell.”

There stood Voldemort and Grindelwald, dueling on the bridge to Hogwarts. Dumbledore nowhere in sight.

Harry had always known the man had no backbone to face his own consequences so he just runs from them.

‘What a Gryffindor.’ He rolled his eyes.

”There is no way Dumbledore just left.” Hermione huffed in disbelief.

”He’s always done it in school so I’m not surprised that he did now. Always leaving everyone else to clean up behind him, students! It’s ridiculous.”  Neville mumbled.

Harry watched the two Lords.

Both Grindelwald and Voldemort had been tossing spells almost elegantly, if it wasn’t for the limps in Grindelwald’s steps as he dodged the spells from his opponent. The man was wearing something similar to muggle wear, but he could not tell from the distance but it seemed that the man’s clothes had been shred for the most part. The blue eyes seemed fixated directly on Voldemort with his none wand hand clutching his side. Faint sweat had covered the man’s head, winkles obvious over his head. The man’s white blond hair that had usually had stood up was now wild and flat against his head, damp with sweat. But the man did not back down even when he was bleeding out. Harry looked over at the man’s opponent.

Voldemort had a sinister smirk plastered on his face at the sight of his rival. The lord looked the complete opposite. He seemed untouched. The silver lined black robes gleamed in the evening sunset. Bergeny red eyes sharply guarded from everything around him. He easily dodged and reflected the other man’s spells who had years upon Voldemort. His brown hair had not faultered during the battle, looking as crisp.

Both Lords had quickly gathered followers when in Hogwarts. He had known that from the talks Dumbledore had gave him about his time when he had attended Hogwarts with Grindelwald. But that wasn’t only how he knew. He knew because he had had experienced it. Riddle was only 2 years older than Harry, being in his 3rd year when Harry had been sorted into Slytherin for his 1st year. He had never really talked to the other during his first year, only when he arrived at Wool’s Orphanage when his uncle and aunt decided that he was too much of a burden for them is when he had talked to the boy. Riddle did not want associate with Harry at first, finding him a bother. That was until he caught the boy speaking to a snake when he had walked out the orphanage when the other was doing outdoor chores for Mrs. Cole.

Ever since the boy had kept him close.

Coming back to Hogwarts for his 2nd year he sat with Riddle’s inner circle of the older students right by Riddle. He was quickly introduced to Malfoy, Lestrange, Rosier, Greengrass, Zabini, and many more. Some of them were definitely not fond of him but did not dare to say in front of Riddle who was funnily the Heir of Slytherin.

Riddle was not fond of Harry making friends other than him, especially outside of Slytherin. He quickly found out that the boy was very possessive of him when he threatened a Ravenclaw girl who had asked Harry to be her date to the Halloween ball by exposing the fact that she had shagged both a 6th year student from Gryffindor and one of the Professors in the school. She quickly backed off and never spoke to Harry again. Harry did not find out until his 4th year when Lestrange brought it up which had started a week of hell for the poor boy when Harry refused to talk to Riddle.

Riddle and Harry practically did everything with one another. Riddle had even showed Harry the Chamber of Secrets.

During one of the cold nights in October during Harry’s 5th year, Riddle had given Harry a book. A diary in fact.

The boy gently took the brown diary from his friend. The diary had a bland brown cover with only two gold covered corners and Tom Marvolo Riddle engraved in the front.

“It will be our source of communication. Write in the diary and I will get your message.” Riddle told him, icy blue gaze never faultering. Harry hugged him that night.

Those blue eyes are once no more. Red taken the place.

He noticed how the boy, man had grown some in the two years he had left. He seemed a bit taller, and broader. Nothing else changed that much. Except he reeked in dark magic like nothing before. He had not seen the man except only once when he left Hogwarts,

”I’m afraid to inform that we will not be able to meet for a long while, Harry.” Tom’s breath fanned over his face, lips then brushing his head. Harry’s eyes fluttered but then his eyebrows wrinkled.

”why not?” His green eyes hesitantly looked for an answer in the blue eyes above him.

”I will be… occupied with some things.” Large hands brushed lightly through his hair tugging lightly at the strands.

Harry knew some of Tom’s plans. Tom has first invited Harry to his meeting with knights in his 3rd year but he declined. He declined each visit except a few where he did join in, sitting right next to Tom and Abraxas. In those he did not attend Tom had sometimes told him what he had missed, but he wasn’t really interested. He through knew that the boys ranks and members were drastically increasing with each following year. It was obvious.

”Does it have something do with the knights?” The hand in his hair had come to a stop. Blue eyes went bland before sharply tugging his hair back making Harry hiss when he met the icy blue eyes again. He was suddenly even closer to the man’s face. He felt the others warm breath fan over his face.

”From what I last remember is that you did not join the ranks.” Tom said dangerously.

”So it is.” Harry’s eyes narrowed at the others response. Tom only started down at him.

”Death eaters.”

Harry’s eyebrows wrinkled at that, he frowned, “What?”

”Death eaters” Tom pulled him closer, “They are called death eaters.”

He closed the space between them.

”Harry—“ He snapped his head over to his friends who seemed worried.

He licked his lips, “yeah?”

”Are you okay? You seemed out of it mate.” Neville frowned at him, wincing at the dried blood on his face.

”Yeah.. yeah I’m fine.” He said unconvincingly, Hermione only gave him a look.

“..Alright.” She breathed, “We have to go back out, more death eaters are showing up.” She pulled up her robe sleeves, leaving behind the fresh wound ‘MUDBLOOD’ engraved into her by one of the death eaters. Harry and Neville both winced at the sight. Hermione only looked straight ahead nodding her head.

Immediately they were hit with a spell.

Dirt and gravel had largely exploding, a booming sound sent the 3 of them flying.

Harry hit the ground roughly, groaning as he landed right on his side.

”Well, well, we meet again Potter.”

Harry quickly scrambled off the ground ground at the voice pointing his wand at them.

He was met with the same Icy blue eyes and sharp smile, just like the woman he killed earlier whose name was Eglantine Carrow.

“Thought we got rid of you last time Sullivan.”

“Clearly thought wrong Potter.” He sinisterly smiled but that smile quickly dropped blank, “A little birdy has told me that you killed my sister.” Harry watched cautiously as the man’s clutched on his Ebony which funnily, suited for all Magic types. His gaze moved from the man’s wand to his chest where that same necklace rested as his sister rested on his harshly breathing chest.

”Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t.” Harry shrugged with a slight smirk only further upsetting the other whose eyes flashed dangerously. He once again smiled sinisterly.

”Well, I believe you know this muggle saying as you were raised among them” his mouth twisted in a sneer as he lifted his wand “An eye for an eye, am I right Potter?” He cackled. Harry only felt a cold sweat run down his back followed by a tiny bit of fear. He has seen Sullivan duel before when Riddle had taken him along with a few of his followers to a dueling ring. This man had been in a winning steak multiple times before. He’s sent many to the hospital, but a good amount of them went fatally as well.

Harry was one of the best duelers at Hogwarts, but not as good as Sullivan. He gulped getting in position as he heard the other man cackling viscosity Infront of him.

“I’ll begin!” The man snarked, “Impulso Venti!”

Suddenly, He is flung 15 feet harshly into the the air them the ground. Harry hissed as a pain ran through his left arm which had pulled painfully. He looked up to only see the man waiting as he got up.

”Cryostorm Oblivion!”

He grinned when he saw the ice shards cut up the man’s front and arms. Blood had flowed in lightly amounts. Only when he looked up, he saw the man’s fury.

”Enough of these games!” He hissed “Cruccio!”

Harry quickly jumped out the way as the red spell past by him to instead hit another Grimdelwald follower. The woman burst in automatic array of cries before the green killing curse from an death eater hit her. The irony.

Harry bit his lip “Tempus caeca!” The light purple spell blinded the the man temporarily giving him a chance to spell him again “Sangueno Incendio!” He winced, he knew this one was going to hurt.

The man screamed. So guttural that it sent shivers down his spine. Harry looked to his left seeing that no one really cared for them as there were other screams surrounding them. He looked for Hermione and Neville, but instead met with red eyes. Voldemort’s hair was slightly disordered and a light layer of sweat covered his forehead, but other than that the man seemed fine. The red eyes scanned him seeing the hand that clutching his bruised side. He watched as they narrowed, a dangerous glint in his eyes. Then he looked away. Harry looked back to only be met by an horrible burning pain.

He dropped his wand, falling to the floor, shrieking.

The throbbing was unbearable. He clawed at himself as he screamed for the burn to stop. His nails scratched and scratched on every part of his body. Arms, legs, chest, neck, and face had began to flow with light steady blood. But the pain did not cease. Harry let out another throbbing shriek. Tears ran down his face, struggling to shallow down his fast beating heart. His eyes opened, bloodshot and red. His throat had felt like it was closing up. He grasped at his throat gasping. It was torment. The agony of pain he felt in his body as the knifelike burn sunk deeply into his body. Fire burned inside of Harry. It blew up in him with a terrifying blankness. It was nauseating. It felt like as one burned his body and added salt to the wound. He threw his head back, gasping his heading.

Please!” He cried out, tears slipping down his face steadily and did not stop.

He hissed as a kick was thrown to his abdomen, sending him onto his back. He had now opened his eyes to face a smug Sullivan.

”What a shame Potter, I thought you would’ve had more fight in you.” The man tsked, his foot nudging Harry’s cheek.

”From what I heard you were one of the best duelers at Hogwarts” he huffed, “So foolish that’s dirty half blood like you…”

Harry had stopped paying attention and looked back at the lords.

Grindelwald was barley standing. The determined  look was swept off his face and replaced with exhaustion instead. The man was covered in blood, sweat, and grime. Voldemort still looked the same as earlier but he seemed just frustrated.

The red eyes met his eyes again. He took in the confidence radiating off the the man. His breath slightly hitched as he felt the man’s magic surrounding him like a blanket. Dark, heavy, and cruel.

”It’s been awfully fun Harry Potter, but I believe it’s time for me to go.” The man caught Harry’s attention. He caught the cruel grin the man held when he pointed his wand at Harry.

“Osteofractum Horribillis” Harry’s eyes widened at the name of the spell. Before it hit him he saw the cloud of Grindelwald’s symbol above them, then the pain hit.

Harry screamed gripping and clawing at his hands. He heard the horrifying cracks happening within inside of him happening all at once. The sound of his bones shattering slowly was excruciating. Those same bones once all shattered the fragments would began to cut him inside out, killing him. Tears fogged his vision at the thought of dying. He knew it would happen to him one day, but he didn’t think it would be so soon. He turned his neck slightly as his bones were still in contact and he looked around.

Sullivan was walking away from him into the battlefield. He now laid with the cooling bodies on the floor. He winced as then burn had intensified into a burning fire. He cried out when he saw Sullivan mumble something one last time before asking away.

”Ignis Sensationis.”

Harry screamed as he trashed around.

He’s never felt something like this before. This pain shouldn’t be a type of pain for anyone to experience. He begun to pray. He prayed. He prayed, and prayed, and prayed for a miracle to save him from the life he was living right now. He prayed for the pain to stop and never to return, but he knew it would all be over soon.

Soon he’ll be met with darkness.

At this moment is when he felt the fragments cutting through his skin. The most pain he’s ever felt in his life.

He looked at his friends as sweat dripped down their focused faces just like the rest of the students around them.

He looked at Voldemort who seemed like he was about to go mad. He turned his head away.

He remembered all the times with Tom before he became Voldemort. The last time he met the man, he had kissed him and now he was about see the the man for the last time as he was about to take victory into his hands. He is going to leave while Tom is going to take over the wizarding world.

And he can’t do anything about it.

He had broken the one promise he made to the other. He closed his eyes.

”Harry.” The man breathed over his lips. The warm breath had now sent a chill through the younger boy.

”Tom?” He looked up into the blue eyes In front of him with cheeky smile.

The man had taken Harry’s hands in his own. Tom placed his mouth on Harry’s sensitive spot.

”Promise me that you’ll wait for me. Wait for me until I am ready.” He sucked in that spot roughly making Harry moan lightly.

”I promise. I promise that I won’t leave you.” He squeezed Tom’s hand in reassurance. He let go of the man’s hand which had then slipped down to the man’s lower area, cupping his half hard erection.

A tug by his hair and he looking in the bright eyes.

”Careful there, love” Tom purred lowly “You’re playing a dangerous game.” He shivered at his ghosting touch around his waist

Harry slowly slipped his hand into Tom’s trousers running his fingers along the length listening to the other sharp inhale,

”Dangerous is the only way to play with you.” He cheekily whispered watching as the man smiled sinisterly. Tom trusted his hips in Harry’s hand letting out a low groan, Harry shivered at the sound.

”Then go ahead, darling. Take what you desire.” His voice low and raspy in Harry’s ears, thrusting his now fully erect cock in Harry’s hand. The younger only smiled cheekily once again as he dropped the older man’s trousers before kneeing in front of him. He took the man’s cock but before doing anything he looked up at the other with the gleaming green eyes he knew the other adored.

A tear had slipped from Harry’s eye, but not from pain. He felt sobs coming from his chest.

God, how he wished things had turned out differently.

He let everyone down.

The edges of his vision had started to blur. He knew it would be only soon.

He looked over at Tom. He needed to look over at the man he loved before he was taken from this horrifying place.

Things had begun to slow, the pain coming back once again. The metallic taste had overfilled his mouth, spilling.

He watched as the other moved elegantly dodging the other wizards spells. He had missed dueling with Tom, It was one of his favorite things to do with the other.

“Tom.” The whisper left his lips. That’s when the world began to stop.

In that moment, Tom looked over. Crimson eyes widened at the sight then burned dangerously. The bright color of his eyes had darkened as the man screamed.

Grindelwald’s body hit the ground.

’He did it.’ He smiled closing his eyes then looked at the star filled sky. The stars looked beautiful, but all of them held a story. The stars shimmer with a bittersweet beauty. Each one holds a story of longing, heartache, and the resilience of the human spirit. They reflect the tears we shed in moments of joy, sorrow, and everything in between. Let the stars be a reminder that even in the darkest of nights, there is beauty and hope shining through. They are also a marking a sign for a new start, and one specific star caught Harry’s attention. The star gleamed brightly in the sky, brighter than the others surrounding it. That start would mark the end of something tragic and the start of something beautiful and powerful for the magic world. The start of new opportunities and chances for all. It would mark dreadful things that happened but the start will highlight the sadness.

Harry didn’t notice as Grindelwald’s followers had begun to disappear or that they were captured by death eaters. He didn’t notice how the Hogwarts students had sighed in relief, until a shriek was heard. He was only drawn to the midnight above him.

“Harry!” Hermione’s voice cried. Raw emotion had filled her voice, tears filled her eyes at the sight of her best friend, the person she grew up with. She couldn’t help as the tears flowed down her face when she cupped her friends cheeks. He looked ghastly. Those green eyes didn’t hold the light they used too. Those green eyes seemed pained but at peace. She remembered when she saw those cheery eyes the first time she entered his train compartment. She weeped harder when Neville placed a comforting had and pulled her away when she didn’t notice. She began to slightly trash in his grip before she felt the overwhelming aura that had surrounded them. It felt unwelcoming, sending a chill down her spine.

The warm hands had disappeared from his face but then he was replaced with cold hands which sent a chill down his face. He squinted his eyes until he saw the red above him.

”Harry.” The voice was cold, but welcoming. Another tear slipped from his eyes at the slight of the other.

”Hey Tom, did you miss me.” He grinned up with blood filled smile.

”You absolute fool.” He hissed out in their language, knowing the people around them tensed up. Greedy hands ran over him.

Harry eyed the ire man and lifted his arm. Pain pierced though him, blood seeping out faster. Through his tears his hand rested on the other man’s face, his thumb running along the skin. Tom’s hands only gripped Harry’s face slightly harder and the movement. Red eyes softened slightly, lips piercing.

“You promised that you wouldn’t leave me”

”I’m sorry.” He whispered, tears filling his eyes. He felt as one of Tom’s hands moved through his hair.

“Tom I’m sorry.”

Toms eyes only turned darker.

”You’re not going to die, Harry. I’ll make sure of it.”

“He used Osteofractum Horribillis Tom. There’s no cure, it’s… fatal.”

The ringing was getting louder.

“You promised that you wouldn’t leave me!” He hissed out, gripping Harry’s hair. The young boy winced only slightly.

”I’m so so sorry Tom. I’m sorry that I broke our promise. I’m sorry that I failed you. But you did it. You’ve beat Geindelwald. You finally have what you wanted.”

”I wanted it with you, Harry. I always have.”

Harry felt his hand slipping from Tom’s cheek until it fell flat on the ground.

He screamed.

The fragments had begun to fully cut through him, he began to bleed even heavier.

Other screams of panic were heard behind him as suffocating magic began to overwhelm everyone’s senses.

His eyes were forced open and he was terrified at the insane craze that filled Tom’s eyes.

”You’re not going to die, I won’t let you.” He clutched the boy hissing commands.

”Malfoy, Lestange….” He couldn’t focus “Your lives depend on it.”

”Yes, my lord.” The two disapparated.

”Harry” Tom tapped his cheek “Do not close your eyes.”

“Tom…”

”Harry, you will not—“ he was being pulled up against the man’s chest. The familiar intoxicating smells invaded his senses and he just relaxed further when he tucked himself into Tom’s neck. The hands once again greedily touched him.

”Harry—“ the lips on his head felt familiar, comforting. He smiled at his fucked up life.

”I love you”

With that, Harry James Potter had been consumed by darkness followed by the dark lords scream.
