Work Text:
Mark laid in his wooden log bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling like utter shit as almost per usual. They wanted to get up, but it felt as if her body had shut off and refused to any command to move. It felt as if Mark's wooden body had turned into concrete.
After what felt like forever, Mark moved, and they rolled their body... a bit too hard because that resulted in Mark falling off of the bed with a not-that-loud wooden thud. Mark sighed as she lay on the cold, wooden floor, only being able to look at the under of Mark's bed. While looking, something caught their eye. A cardboard box with the words "OTHER STUFF" written on it in black marker, curiosity got the best of the mannequin as he crawled under the bed, pulling out the box, the poor thing had been collecting dust for half a decade.
Mark lifted the cardboard box onto the bed. He quickly went to the kitchen to grab a box cutter, and he went back and sat himself on the bed with the box next to him. Mark sliced the box open to reveal its containment.
It was nothing much, just packs of spare blanks and nails, a book about the history of woodwork, an old mixtape, and a square silver book facing downwards with metal on the corners, he lifted it out of the box and turned it around to reveal the words "Our Wedding Day" in curvy letters. The book was a gift from Mark to Wallter for their first wedding anniversary, Mark vividly remembered how happy he was, looking through all the pages, his smile only growing bigger and bigger with the next, and then crying with tears of happiness as he read the last page with the special message Mark had left for her at the end. Mark sighed, not daring to open the book because he knew if he did it would only result in him crying about how he wished things could go back to the way they were all those years ago, yet, he wanted to remember those memories of feeling loved.
Mark opened the book, to the first page which had a date on the top, 2.14.2013, the page also contained separate pictures of them and Wallter in their wedding attire, both white and black suits, only difference being Wallter having this wavy-looking tie, and Mark had a bow and was holding a bouquet of blue roses.
The next page was a couple of images, Mark walking, well, hopping down the aisle, them and Wallter at the alter hand in hand, them placing the rings on eachothers (non-existent) fingers, and their kiss. Mark remembered the feeling of that kiss, their first kiss as a married couple. He felt like his heart was about to burst from all of that emotion.
The next set of pictures was the newly weds together, Mark and Jimmy, who was his best man, a picture with them and all of the guests. There weren't many guests, they had a small, private wedding with some family and friends.
The rest of the pictures were just a bunch of pictures of them eating cake, dancing, goofing around with friends. Mark got to the end of the book, where his message for Wallter was.
Hey, Wallter. Happy 1 Year Anniversary! You are genuinely one of the most beautiful people I have ever laid my eyes upon, every day when I wake up with you by my side I get very happy, and I also feel that way thinking about our future together, I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you!
Love you forever, Mark.
And that was it, that was the final straw, Mark started crying, bawling his eyes out. He missed Wallter, he missed their home, he missed everything. They threw the book across the room and curled up into a ball on their bed, continuing to pour their heart out, but no one was there to listen to him or cradle him in their arms or comfort them.
Mark was alone.
