Work Text:
Haneoka’s and Hanasakigawa’s school buildings were close enough to each other that their territories overlapped. Meaning that whenever Ran went to shoplift, she found Eve hitting up the same store. Alternatively, Eve’s favorite alleway for smoking and beating people up usually had to be shared with none other than Mitake Ran.
Although they didn’t hate each other, there was still some animosity. Can’t exactly extort money from a student when they had already given all their savings to someone else. So, they butted heads, sometimes literally. Ran had a mean right hook and Eve’s wooden katana hurt a lot when a hit landed. However, after a lot of both physical and verbal fights, they reached a sort of agreement. A state of cooperation and mutual respect.
Sometimes disagreements still happened, but mainly Ran distracted the employees while Eve lifted and Wakamiya helped path Ran up after a particularly rough fight, And if both of them happened to be at the same place, same time, same boring feeling over their heads… Well, the PG-13 version is that they helped each other undress countless times.
Still, no one would call them close. Sex was just sex and helping one another out was a rare act of kindness, no bigger thoughts being given to the matter. Ran didn’t know Eve’s birthday and the other girl equally had no clue what Ran did in her spare time. Strangers, essentially.
So strangers, in fact, that Ran had no idea how she opened her door at three a.m. to find a bloodied Eve standing there, eyes glazed over.
“Hey?”
“Oh, you actually live here.”
“Uh… Obviously?”
“Yeah, I wasn’t sure. It would be weird to knock on a rando’s door.” Ran kept staring at her with her brows furrowed.
“That aside… Do you want to explain all the blood?” Eve looked down at her hands, as if seeing them for the first time. She had makeshift gloves made out of dried blood that reached all the way up to her forearm.
“Oh, that. That… I…” Despite still being glossy, Eve’s eyes were panicked.
“You…?”
“I think I might’ve killed someone.” RAn was glad the doorknob was everything she had in hands, as she would’ve let anything else fall to the floor and shatter. Actually, it felt almost wrong not having a spilled drink and glass shards at that moment.
Staring at Eve, Mitake was unsure as to what to say. She had many questions and no answers, though the first thing that came out of her mouth wasn’t exactly relevant to the issue at hand. “And you come to me!?”
“I… I didn’t know who else to call.”
“Literally any of your underlings?” Eve just kept staring straight ahead, eyes still unfocused. Then\;
“I think I’m going to puke.” Ran did the only rational thing: she took a step back.
Just in time. Suddenly Eve was doubling over and retching, a stream of stomach acid and chunks of what looked to be rice falling right on Ran’s front door. A bit also splashed on her bare feet, but she decided to not focus on that.
Eve spent countless minutes like that, one hand haphazardly holding her hair back and the other just hanging awkwardly in the air. Finally, though, she stopped vomiting.
“You good?”
“ I don’t think I’d be able to puke even if I wanted.”
“Yeah, good to hear, ‘cause you’re the one who’ll clean that.” Eve’s eyes, now somewhat more focused, stared at Ran in disbelief.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, the blood too.”
“Fuck.” Ran smiled at the way her visit was more centered, more in the same planet as Mitake.
“Anyway, get inside, you need a bath, a change of clothes, and then we need a shovel.”
“Uh?”
“Well, whoever you killed can’t just be rotting in the open now, can they?”
“I mean…”
“Eve, come on. If we don’t bury the remains you will get caught. And I’m not about to share territory with Shirasagi fucking Chisato.” The blonde in question was Eve’s second in command.
“Uh…” Ran grabbed Eve’s hand, pulling her close and making her white all stars step on the vomit. She then frowned.
“Take off your shoes.”
“Is this really a concern right now?”
“You’re a murderer, not a disrespectful person.” Eve let out a breath of air that could be interpreted as a laugh.
“Fair enough.”
“Yeah, now hurry up, Kill Bill. We need to be done before the sun rises and people start going out.”
“How… How are you so calm?”
Instead of answering, Ran laughed, though it wasn’t exactly a happy sound. And if she already knew where to get a shovel from… Well, that was no one’s but Eve’s business.
