It’s become something of a cherished tradition over the past year or so, at least to Kenji himself, to bring Akutagawa to his family’s farm with him. He loves it when anyone and everyone from the agency joins him, of course, but Akutagawa really took to it once he got the swing of things. It’s exciting having someone around who understands his love of the land. He even did his own research to get better!
It’s another weekend back home, and they take a break just off the fields, laying splayed out on their backs in the grass, still in their overalls, like they often do after a hard day’s work. The sky is mostly clear, but the breeze suggests a drizzle of rain is on the way. No matter, they’ll deal with that when it comes.
For now, they doze in the afternoon sun, warm.
Kenji wakes up to a tap to his forehead, which is great, because he is famished.
And then another. And to his exposed arm, his nose, and he can feel the dampness in the air. He laughs. Beside him, Akutagawa stirs, grumbles, and then sits up quickly.
“Is something wrong?” Kenji asks, because he doesn’t think so, but Akutagawa is alarmed, so there must be.
“It’s raining,” Akutagawa states, and moves to stand up.
“It is! It shouldn’t be too bad to flood anything though, so all’s well!” He gets up too, stretching his arms up to the gray sky.
Akutagawa eyes him, ability manifesting a makeshift umbrella out of his shirt as he steps closer. “We should get inside.”
“Oh, right! It wouldn’t do to get sick, huh?” Kenji smiles up at him, and the cover Akutagawa was kind enough to provide, as the rain gets steadier. “Let’s go!” They take off into a run back home, boots splashing in the mud.
