“You done, kiddo?”, Sirius asked, throwing on his leather jacket and grabbing the house keys, ready to open the door. He watched as Harry’s small feet ran towards him, half an arm stuck in his jacket and the other end of it dragging on the floor.
He nodded excitedly and Sirius sighed with a fond smile, straightening the boy’s jacket for him and making sure it ended up on his body and not the ground. He helped Harry into his shoes and double checked that he was actually holding the gift bag with Teddy’s birthday gift.
Teddy was Harry’s best friend at school, even though he was a year older, as he was turning eight already today, while Harry was still seven. The boys had become fast friends ever since Teddy had moved into town with his dad and had started at Harry’s school.
They were truly inseparable, which meant that James and Lily had by extension also become good friends with Teddy’s dad – Remus, if Sirius remembered correctly.
For today, however, the Potters had been planning a date night for a while – something they did quite often even though they had been happily married for years, and something Sirius, with his many failed relationships, tried very hard not be jealous of.
When Harry had brought back the invitation to Teddy’s birthday they had been worried they’d have to cancel but Sirius had quickly assured them that he’d be able to take Harry to the party instead.
To be honest, he had heard them gush about the kid’s dad and how kind and fun he was, and he had decided that it was time he finally met the man himself and saw for himself if they were right.
Sirius sent a final glance into the Potter’s house and then closed the door behind Harry and him.
Soon enough they found themselves in front of the Lupin household, where Teddy lived with his father. Sirius grabbed Harry’s small hand to stop him from jumping around excitedly, and rung the doorbell.
He heard the sound of small feet running towards the door and a second later it was thrown open by a little boy with a head full of messy brown curls and a huge smile on his face.
“Harry!”, he exclaimed excitedly and drew Harry into a hug, who smiled widely. The two boys quickly disappeared into the insides of Teddy’s home, laughing wildly while they were running.
Sirius blinked, staring at the spot where Harry had been just a second ago. The boy hadn’t even so much as said goodbye or looked at Sirius before he was gone.
He was snapped out of his stupor when he heard a deep rumbling laugh and looked up, right into the face of the most beautiful man he had ever seen.
The resemblance between father and son was definitely there, but Remus curls were a lot more tamed, and full of grey streaks, which made him look distinguished. His eyes were a warm shade of hazel with sparks of green and they shone with barely supressed mirth.
Remus was tall and wore a soft-looking jumper that, in Sirius’ opinion, made him look rather adorable, if that was something you could say about an adult man. Sirius thought so, anyway.
He watched as Remus continued chuckling softly, his eyes lingering on where Harry and Teddy had just disappeared, before he turned around and looked directly at Sirius. “These kids, huh?”, he mused.
Sirius laughed and nodded, then he remembered his manners. “Sorry”, he said, holding out his hand for Remus to shake. “I’m Sirius, I don’t believe we have met.”
Remus returned his smile and accepted the handshake, his big calloused hand feeling warm on Sirius’ skin where it was wrapped around his. “No, I don’t believe so”, he continued with a cheeky smile. “I never forget a pretty face like yours.”
Sirius spluttered as he felt his cheeks burn with heat. He normally wasn’t that affected when strangers complimented him or were a bit flirty, but something about this man was different.
“I’m Remus”, he added, though Sirius obviously knew who he was. “James and Lily have been talking about you quite a lot, I was hoping to meet you sometime”, he smiled.
“Only good things, I hope?”, Sirius laughed. “But yeah, I feel like they haven’t been shutting up about you and your charming personality.” He winked, emphasising the last two words. “So far I can say, I have to agree.”
Remus grinned. “Oh, is that so?”, he asked flirtatiously. “Well, I’m famous for my charming personality if I say so myself.” He seemed to hesitate for a second, something almost akin to nervosity flickering in his eyes before he said: “If you want you could come in and I could make us some tea, or coffee? Then I could tell you about all the good things I’ve been told about you”, he offered.
Sirius grinned as he stepped through the door, shutting it behind him, suddenly very close to the other man. His breath caught as he stared into Remus’ eyes directly in front of him.
“Lead the way!”, he whispered and something in Remus’ eyes shifted as he smiled at Sirius softly and showed him the way.
