Work Text:
Yosano was on a mission abroad with Kenji and Kyoka when Atsushi was on a case with Ryuunosuke at the same time. Bad idea. Why?
Well a certain weretiger just had to fuck up the mission by jumping on a grenade to protect the mafioso who was already on the verge of shielding himself with Rashomon ADA entrance exam style- and he'd healed, but it was so bad that the healing was incomplete.
Now he was stuck with bruises and scratches all over his body, and Ryuunosuke couldn't but help feel guilty leaving him to his apartment alone- so the mafioso took Atsushi into his apartment for a while.
Only issue was- Gin was taking the other room (she was staying with him for a while since she had a fight with Higuchi) which meant the two would have to sleep in the same bed. Next morning was when he realized that they had a couch, and Ryuunosuke couldn't help but feel humiliated from sharing a bed with the weretiger.
Ryuunosuke sat up in the bed as he looked over to the weretiger, and he couldn't help but remember all of yesterday's drama- his mind was a blur, but he had a vague idea.
The day before's events:
The two had been sent out on a simple stakeout- a quick search for people in possession of drugs, bombs, illegal weapons, etc. Atsushi was not pleased to be sent with his literal worst enemy, but he wouldn't say anything about it- unlike Ryuunosuke who was complaining complaint after complaint next to him. "Listen Akutagawa- what's decided is decided. No point in whining, right?"
"How dare you speak to me that way, weretiger!" Rashomon shot out of the older man's coat, and Atsushi could only sigh at the threat. The day we get along is the day I die.
Atsushi shot a pleading look at Dazai, and Dazai too took a deep breath as he approached them. "Akutagawa.." He threatened- and that sure got him to shut up.
The mission was going well with no incidents, until they had caught their first culprit- an underground black market seller, who was in possession of and actively trading bombs. And when the pair went to confront him, well.. let's just say it didn't go to plan.
A smoke bomb was thrown, filling the warehouse to the brim with the dark gas which could also possibly be poisonous- and Atsushi panicked. A lot. Ugh, oh my god! Didn't that bastard say he had a lung sickness!? Why's he running headfirst into sm- y'know what? No. I'm not letting him shorten his lifespan over this. He ran headfirst into the smoke, picking up the coughing Ryuunosuke over his shoulder. "What are you doing!?" Rashomon shot out, cutting Atsushi's shoulders.
"I'm- Ow! Bastard, I'm helping you out with your lungs so shut up and move it!" He yelled among the panic when the dealer was about to get away- Rashomon's tendrils reached out from the mafioso's coat, catching the man by his waist. "Don't presume me as weak!" He snapped, harshly grasping the man in the air. Atsushi scoffed. "I'm not presuming you as weak, I'm helping yo-"
There it was. He saw a glint in the corner of his eyes as the smoke began to dissipate behind Ryuunosuke. It was the man pulling a hand grenade, and judging by who Rashomon belonged to he was planning to throw it at the mafioso. "Akutagawa!" Atsushi shouted, pushing the man who'd just noticed the bomb aside and jumping over the grenade, sheltering it with his body- and it shocked both the dealer and the mafioso.
Everything after that was a cloudy memory, the ringing in Atsushi's ears with faint echoes of "Weretiger!", the feeling of blood dripping down his mouth, and a faint feeling of tears (- or maybe sweat?) dropping onto his cheek- which were not his own.
The next time he awoke was a strange sensation, he felt like he was being held in someone's arms, and that scent- he just loved that scent.
It smelled comfortable, familiar, like Akutagawa.
Wait, what!?
Like Akutagawa!?
He glanced up to see he was in Akutagawa's arms, in Akutagawa's bed, and in Akutagawa's clothes. There were scars and bruises littered all over his body. Nevermind! This was certainly not a nice scent, not comfortable, and not really that familiar.
Well, at least now that he knew it was his enemy. After a small bickering, Atsushi got something to eat; and the two went to bed on the opposite sides of the duvet.
They would wake up cuddled together in the middle, how humiliating.
The mafioso glanced at the sleeping weretiger, and he couldn't help the small smile that crossed his face. Though once he noticed it he got rid of it immediately. Absolutely not.
He got up, stretching. The weretiger still hasn't told me, why he saved me yesterday. Do I just matter that much to him..? He thought as he stood in front of the mirror. What a fool, for someone as soft and caring as him to fall in love with me.
Ryuunosuke sighed, walking over to the kitchen to make something for the weretiger to eat once he woke up. Hmm.. perhaps the weretiger'd enjoy having fig pancakes with me? He wondered as he took out a cutting board to cut the fruit. He was done chopping when he felt two arms snake around his waist, and he nearly jumped. "Weretiger!"
He yelled, thought Atsushi didn't budge- instead leaning his chin on the mafioso's shoulder. "Yes?" He sleepily mumbled, and Ryuunosuke just had to think it's cute. No, it's not. he reassured himself as he led the weretiger to the table for him to take a seat. "If you want breakfast weretiger you'll sit."
"Fine~" Atsushi whined, though taking a seat at the table as told. He watched as Ryuunosuke made pancakes and he wanted to help- but his body was in no condition to do that at the moment. He glanced down at himself noting he was still wearing the mafioso's clothes- and annoyingly to him (all because of that stupid weretiger nose) they now smelled like him.
He felt a flush creep up his face but he chose to ignore it, yawning as his brain finally got back online. Ryuunosuke returned to the table with the plates, setting them down and taking a seat next to the weretiger. "You have to eat." He mumbled softly, yet Atsushi just groaned. "I don't have an appetite."
"Will you eat off my chopsticks?" He asked. What a foolish question, why would I even bother asking that? He'd probably say no, anywa- "I'd- erm.. love that, actually."
What?
What?
And that's how Ryuunosuke found himself feeding the weretiger, and he couldn't help but feel butterflies and he and the weretiger shared a pair of chopsticks. This.. is so degrading. To be sharing kitchen utensils with an animal. The mafioso thought, yet he only kept going until the food was finished. "Thank you, Ryuunosuke.." Atsushi mumbled as he covered his blushing face with his hand, looking the other way.
The mafioso, who was stacking the plates in the dishwasher, nearly dropped one as he leaned back up to face him. "What did you just call me?" He asked with a smirk as he supported his weight on the counter top with both hands.
Actually, maybe the weretiger wasn't that bad. After having a day with him in the rain, and now knowing that the weretiger was willing to sacrifice his life for him.. Ryuunosuke couldn't helpt but feel his heart skip a beat.
"You're welcome, Atsushi."
