Chapter Text
It was getting late, but not late enough that it would be concerning for anyone to still be awake. Mind was in his room, leaning against the wall while on his bed, writing away in a journal. Documenting, he called it whenever he was asked, but in reality, half of the time he was writing scenarios that never happened. In a way it was documenting, it was documenting his own thoughts as they passed by, but thankfully for his ego, the other's assumed he meant a more formal type of documentation.
As his train of thought reached its station, he set the book and pen down on his bed next to him and glanced at the clock. 11:38. Not too late, but late enough that the other two are probably asleep and he won't be bothered by Heart if he tried to get a drink. So, he pushed himself out of bed and stretched. He groans, he really should sit with better posture, but he will worry about that some other time. Ignoring how many times he tells himself that, he opens the door to his room and starts to make his way to the kitchen as quietly as he can.
The house was dark and quiet. Perfect, he thought, no one is awake.
Emphasis on the word thought, because as he left the hallway, he stopped in his tracks. The front door was open. The front door is open. It's open. Shit. Shitshitshitshit-
He quickly approaches the doorway, not being very quiet about it, looking outside as he grips the frame. "Fuck." His thoughts begin to race as he looks out into the forest that surrounds the trios little house, no sign of anyone. How long ago? When? Why?
His thoughts are interrupted by a voice behind him, close to the hallway. "Mind? What's going on." Heart. That would explain why he didn't hear any footsteps from the hallway, though that could also be blamed on him being too focused on his own panicking. Giving it another thought, he would be surprised if it wasn't Heart. He turns his head toward the other, pausing as he struggles to figure out what to say.
"Soul left."
Heart barely gave themself a second to process those two words before starting to go for the door, trying to chase after Soul. Mind grabs them before they can get outside. "Heart- Heart, wait, we have to think bef--" That gets him punched. His grip loosens for just a second and Heart almost gets out, but Mind quickly grabs their arm and pulls them back. Perhaps his grip was a little too harsh, but he couldn't tell that easily with the fact his hands were mechanical rather than organic. "You can't just go running out there, especially not at night, you know what's out there!"
"Yeah, Soul's out there!" They struggle and pull against Mind before realising the only way out of this would be to fight him and win. Despite that not actually being the only option, they punch Mind again.
He stumbles back and shakes his head. "Heart-! You're really not thinking right now, you-" He gets interrupted as they lunge at him. That wasn't in their original plan, but being told they weren't thinking really pissed them off. It's like that's all Mind cared about, did he not care that Soul was out in the forest, lost right now? Mind didn't stand much of a chance at that point, being brought to the ground with Heart on top of him. He hit the ground hard, crown being knocked off of his head.
His vision darkened and swirled, must have hit his head pretty bad. And he must have looked pretty dazed, because Heart seemed satisfied with the results of his actions, stood up, and ran out of the door and into the forest, calling out for Soul. Mind weakly reached out for them, before his vision faded out to black.
