Work Text:

“She doesn’t need to,” Emily said waving her hand around like an inflatable tube man as she sipped her coffee, “You know. All that.”

Breanna swore and tugged the hand down as a flying cabinet box slammed into the wall right above the desk. Forms and memos fell like ash around them.

“You know, if you didn’t want to do the proposal paperwork for- '' Emily spun around, yelling over the desk like she was lobbing artillery from a trench.

“T-the guidelines say we should be as quiet as we can be until-” Jane said, curled up into a ball in the desk’s footwell. She didn’t do well with abrupt, unexpected situations.

“I know sweetheart, you’re doing great, keep going,” Breanna said, patting her on the knee.

Something shattered into the desk they were cowering (and Dr Pope was just loitering by while the director got it out of her system) behind.

“You know, technically she’s a janitor’s assistant, I don’t know why she makes it so hard on Ahti, he’s getting up there in the thousands of-”

Another collision of something very large usually unused to high velocity with something equally large and just as unused to high velocity.

“Can I finish a sentence? Can I finish a sentence because it’s fine if not, but-” Emily said, her voice rapidly rising in pitch.

“Is this because-”

“Yes,” Emily said, whipping her head to stare Breanna down like a speeding locomotive.

Play chicken with me, her eyes said.

“Hm,” Breanna said, and went back to patting Jane on the knee.

There was the sound of a bullet going through someone’s skull, and there was the sound of a body hitting the floor, and there was the whine of The Service Weapon deactivating. It was a bloodthirsty little rascal.

Emily rolled her eyes. “Finally,” she murmured and glanced at Jane’s glassy eyes. Worry flashed across her face as she slowly stood up, peeking over the desk.

“Give her some fuck,” she hissed, her voice strangling. Breanna frowned and crouched up over the desk.

“Oh.”

There was steam pouring off of Jesse Faden, and there was blood trickling down her face. It stained the front of her white shirt. She was smirking.

“Chocolate...”

“On her abs?” Breanna said, dazed.

Emily simply breathed for a second.

“Uh, give Jane some chocolate, and uh-”

Emily trailed off. She was too busy having intense eye contact with the Director. She was blushing defiantly, if such a thing could be done.

“Yeah,” Emily said.

Then as Breanna watched, the Head of Research wandered off in the direction of the Oceanview Motel. She looked down for a moment to coax Jane out from under the desk. When she’d gotten them both standing, the director was somehow nowhere to be seen in the room.

Notes:

A little morsel! I had fun with it. You could give me prompts, you know; you have that look to you is all I'm saying.
