Chapter Text

Red Son opened the door of his workshop, sighing. Three weeks ago, Mk and Mei went missing. During that month, Red Son buried himself deep into his work. Countless hours were lost as he locked his bedroom's door and constantly engineered down to the bone. A knock came from the door. "Muh..? Come in." Red Son muttered. Princess Iron Fan opened the door, holding a plate of food. "My son, you need to eat. How else will you work on your inventions?" She murmured. "Mother, I'm fine." He grumbled. Princess Iron Fan sighed, setting the food down dejectedly and walking to the doorway. "Your... friends... will be fine." The door clicked shut. Red Son slouched into his chair. His mind felt numb and fuzzy. He sub-consciously grabbed his screwdriver, fumbling with putting it against the screw. "Fuck..." He mumbled. The screwdriver scraped against his hand, drawing blood on his callused palm. He gritted his teeth in pain, slamming the screwdriver down on the table. Blood dripped down his hand. The pain subsided into a dull sensation. Red Son resumed working on his inventions, completely dismissing his slash.

Red Son began to feel dizzy. He clutched his head, sitting down at his desk yet again. As he glanced around, he realized that his wound wasn't clotting. "What...?" He gasped. He hadn't been eating enough, causing him to destroy his immune system. Red Son stood unsteadily, checking every cabinet and drawer for a first aid kit. Finally, he found a rather scrappy looking box under his chair. Fumbling with the latches, he managed to grip a roll of gauze and wrap his hand. His face promptly thunked onto the desk. "Ow." He muttered. Sitting up, he gripped his screwdriver. Slowly and carefully, he tightened the screw on his gadget. He chuckled in success, holding it above his head like it was some sort of prize. The world became bleary again. "No, no no no.." Red Son collapsed into his chair, the world darkening around the edges, and quickly blackening.

"Red Son!" Mk called from outside the flame demon's door. Mei knocked loudly on the door. "Yoo hoo, Red Boy?" Fifteen minutes later, Mei kicked the door down. "Red Son?! Red-" Mei stopped short as she spotted him slouched in his chair. "Oh my gosh..." Mk gasped. Mei slinked over to him, shaking his shoulder. He was cold. Tears began to drip down Mei's face. "He's gone." She murmured. Mk hugged Mei, sobs beginning to rise in his throat.

Flowers covered Red Son's grave. Mk and Mei kneeled at the spot, multiple people standing solemnly. Candles were placed around his grave, the light casting a warm glow around the tombstone.
