Chapter 1: Does this count as a meet cute?

Chapter Text

“Alcohol is prohibited on campus,” a stern voice said from behind Wei Wuxian as he slipped into the building for his dorm.

Wei Wuxian spun to face the boy who had spoken, hiding the two bottles of wine behind his back. The boy was wearing light blue pants, a white baggy sweater, and a long, white ribbon around his forehead. His face was stern, but very pretty.

“Really?” Wei Wuxian asked, trying to play innocent. “I wasn’t aware. Thanks for letting me know.”

The boy pointed at the door behind Wei Wuxian. Turning to look, Wei Wuxian saw the large sign on the door that read, “Alcohol is prohibited”. The sign was big, bright, and hard to miss.

“You need to come with me to receive punishment,” stern boy said.

“Do I though? Can’t you let it slide just this once? I promise I won’t do it again.” It was more a promise to himself that he wouldn’t let himself get caught again. He had no intention of giving up alcohol for all four years of college.

“You also broke curfew.”

“Aiya! This school has so many rules, how could they expect us to remember them all!” Wei Wuxian complained.

“Everyone is given a handbook that contains the rules, they were also gone over during orientation.”

Scratching the back of his neck, Wei Wuxian looked sheepish. “I have a perfectly reasonable excuse then, I missed orientation,” stern boy glared at Wei Wuxian, “and I lost my handbook on my third day here.” That made stern boy’s nostrils flare. “Besides, it looks like you were about to be leaving, so doesn’t that mean you were about to break curfew.”

“I am the RA. I am doing my job. Now I must confiscate the alcohol, and take you to receive punishment.”

Wei Wuxian clutched the bottles of wine to his chest. “No! These are my bottles of wine! If you want some, get your own bottle!” Wei Wuxian’s face lit up with a mischievous grin. “If you promise not to report me, I’ll share a bottle with you. What do you say?”

“Shameless,” stern boy retorted.

He made a grab for Wei Wuxian’s alcohol, in a lunge that was both, quick and graceful. Barely managing to avoid the attack, Wei Wuxian spun out of reach. Not deterred, stern boy kept attempting to steal the bottle. After several minutes of the odd game of cat and mouse, Wei Wuxian’s hold on the bottles slipped and they fell from his hand. Stern boy managed to catch them before it hit the floor. He shot a glare at Wei Wuxian, before turning on his heel, and stalking off. Most likely to go report Wei Wuxian.

“That was a great save by the way,” Wei Wuxian called out weakly. Stern boy gave no indication that he’d heard.

“Well shit,” Wei Wuxian mumbled. “I’m gonna be in so much trouble.”
