It was morning. The type of morning where everything just seems to wake up at once, where the moons rays seem to spill over Etheria leisurely. Where everyone seemed to notice it was getting light out, accept it and seek solace in getting up at their own time. It wasn't any different for Adora and Catra, who always seemed to wake up together now. Catra, ever-elegant lay draped along Adora who was messily sprawled on the couch. Her eyes slowly blinked open, gazing around the mess from last night. bottles of nail polish lay scattered around the floor, along with littered popcorn and polaroids pictures (Catra painted hers, then attempted to paint Adora's, who kept laughing, and now the neon blue is scattered across her fingers).
"I think we fell asleep yesternigbt-" Adora murmured.
"No shit," her girlfriend chuckled, pushing off of her chest.
Adora just started at her, wistfully. She liked every aspect of the woman in front of her, lovingly fixated on the way her short but messy bed head was sticking in so many directions. She tenderly ran a hand through her hair, only for Catra's finger to reach out, brushing against the ring on Adora's finger every time it grazed her hair. The rings held a promise-they made them together, Adora's lumpy and colorful, Catra's smooth and swirly, both sculpted together with gentle hands. If they looked closely, they would see the tiny engravements-some mirroring those engraved at their old beds at the Horde, others new and hopeful. The rings weren't for a wedding, but for taking comfort in the fact that they had no need too-at least for the time being. They knew their love was eternal, they understood it could never be measured in a single ceremony. Catra broke the silence, giggling quietly.
"Ahh you freak. Stop staring at me like that!" She laughed.
Adora just chuckled, pausing to stare at her (attempted) nail polish.
"I need to wash this off!"
"Nah, it adds character. It looks... very you."
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean, that I look like a smurf?"
Catra was silent, fighting a grin tugging at the edges of her mouth.
"ahifpwudfi get off me," Adora shoved her to the floor, the cozy blanket tugging both of them onto the ground with a thud. They both paused, cheesy grins tugging on their faces. "This is nice. Getting to wake up with you like this." A pink blush dashed across Catra's face. "Yeah... it's very relaxing. I always sleep better-or actually sleep when I-when i'm next to you." Adora smiled, her hand falling on Catra's cheek before pulling her in for a sweet and short kiss.
