The Opposite of a Dream

Summary:

[June Doe 2024; Day Twenty-Eight - Regional/Local Production]

The choir finds a copy of 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' in the warehouse and decides to put it on. Jane discovers an insecurity.

Notes:

While I’m not the biggest Shakespeare fan, this show has a special place in my heart… it was my very first show when I was a freshman in college. I played Demetrius!

A little run down on what’s happening in the scene for those who haven’t read it: The four lovers (Lysander, Helena, Hermia, and Demetrius) quarrel, with Lysander and Demetrius fighting over Helena. Robin Goodfellow (also known as Puck), having accidentally caused the quarrel to begin with, tries to undo his mistake- and is ordered to keep the two men apart. To do so, he mocks each man in the other’s voice, leading both further away from the other.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jane was ready. At least, Mischa said she was ready.

Having been given the role of Robin Goodfellow, she knew she was in for a fun time... until Act Three, Scene Two hit and her words failed. Perhaps it was that Mischa was Demetrius, and she'd be speaking with his Ukrainian accent... He would be standing right in front of her as she spoke.

The French accent from before was fine. Then again, no one in the room spoke French. Lucky for her, Mischa was a great coach. He shot Jane a thumbs up before she spoke.

"Here, villain, drawn-..."

Notes:

For a little bit of extra information, this is how I would have cast Midsummer (parts of it). Ocean, by default, would be the director.

Demetrius: Mischa
Helena: Noel
Lysander: Ricky
Hermia: Constance
Robin Goodfellow (Puck): Jane
Director: Ocean

Toodles!
