"-I’m just saying I think that Alexandra and Eleonore should just both leave Louka and get together!" Heidi complained, "Like it always feels so forced when he’s with them! He never listens to what Alexandra wants or takes her ideas until he finishes messing it all up then listens to her, and he’s always fighting with Eleonore if it wasn’t for the background music you couldn’t tell when they are trying to be romantic!
Sophie nodded along. "Why do you watch this show again? It feels like every time you bring it up you always get like… this."
"Because I like the fight scenes, and the world is cool, and all of the other characters but the main one are pretty good!" Heidi said, throwing her hands up. "The writing is really good until it comes to the main character I swear!"
"At least there is fanfiction," Sophie said with a shrug.
"At least there is fanfiction," Heidi parroted. "They should hire some fanfic writers, they would know what to do with them."
"They would make Louka more tolerable in your eyes," Sophie said.
"Yes! At least fanfic writers care about the characters then the writers do!" Heidi shook her head. She looked around the bench where she and her best friend Sophie were sitting. "There they go again." Sophie took a look where Heidi was pointing at. Yumi Ishiyama and Odd Della Robbia were rushing through the campus to who knows where. "What on earth do they do that requires sneaking off so much?"
Sophie shrugged. "I don’t know, they always run off so quickly, like the world is ending or something," she said.
Heidi scoffed. "Maybe it is," she joked, getting a chuckle from Sophie. "Really what do you think they do?"
"Maybe they’re late to something?" Sophie said, "They’re always whispering about weird sci-fi stuff."
"Maybe they’re in a larp group," Heidi said with a laugh, "and they’re always running late to meet ups."
Sophie looked over at the spot the dou vanished into. "What about the weird fights?"
"Can’t leave the stuff that happens in the game behind."
"Yeah makes sense," Sophie said with a nod. "Think that’s what was going on yesterday with all of them?"
"Could be. They did act weirdly serious about it though," Sophie said, "Even Odd, and you know how he is."
Sophie rolled her eyes, sinking down in her seat. "Don’t remind me!" she scoffed, "Maybe that’s why he stood me up so many times, his stupid game is just more important."
"He’s such a jerk! I heard from Clair that he was dating her and another girl at the same time, and when they confronted him about it, he had the gall to play dumb!" Heidi ranted.
"I think he’s gone out with just about every girl in the grade except Sissi. And his cousin obviously. Next year he better consider himself lucky if anyone gives him a second chance!" Sophie said with a huff.
"Tell me about it!" Heidi said, throwing up her hands. "He’s so flip floppy! He was so charming when he asked me out but after Belpois kissed me- against my will mind you -he acts like I never existed!" she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest, "I never even got an apology from Belpois for that stupid stunt."
"Wait, Jeremie Belpois kissed you? I thought he and Stones were dating?"
"I know! Maybe he was trying to make her jealous or something," Heidi said, "It must have worked too, because I heard she kissed Poliakoff afterwards."
"Poliakoff? Like Nicolas Poliakoff?" Sophie asked.
"I know, she could do so much better than one of Sissi’s lapdogs," Heidi continued, "Obviously whatever was up with them is over now since it looks like they’re back together."
Sophie rested an arm on the back rest of the bench. "I feel kind of bad for her."
"Stones?"
"Yeah, she’s like a foster kid right, and isn’t she originally from Canada?" she continued, "Joining the middle of the school year in a whole other country, that can’t be easy."
"Yeah… It’s kind of weird though, all of a sudden in the middle of the year Della Robbia’s mysterious cousin from another country just appears, and is suddenly sucking into his weirdo friend group just like that? And suddenly they’re all besties after knowing one another for like a day? You got to admit that’s weird right?" Heidi said, twisting herself to face Sophie better.
"Yeah I guess that’s a bit weird."
"And how she was almost constantly waking everyone up screaming during the night when she first got here."
"It’s not as bad anymore," Sophie said, "besides, I think Sissi yelling at her, woke up more people than Stones did."
"Fair point," Heidi said, crossing a leg over the other.
"And about her suddenly getting melted into the group could just be that they all clicked, like we did. It’s not that unusual for someone or a group to just meld together."
"Touche."
"And the nightmares and her transferring in the middle year could also be that whatever happened to her parents, just recently happened, so she wants to be with her living family," Sophie continued, "And whatever happened must have happened recently, hence the nightmares."
Heidi threw her head back. "True… Now I feel like a jerk."
Sophie scooted closer. "It’s all just speculation. She’s so quiet I don’t think anyone but her friends know what is going on with her," Sophie said, placing a hand on Heidi’s shoulder.
"Thanks," Sophie said with a smile.
"No probl-"
"-until he finishes messing it all up then listens to her, and he’s always fighting with Eleonore if it wasn’t for the background music you couldn’t tell when they are trying to be romantic!" Heidi finished. She looked over to see Sophie sat beside her. "Are you okay?"
Sophie blinked. "Yeah…" she said, trying to shake off the feeling. "I don’t know I’m getting deja vu…"
"Huh. Weird," Heidi said with a shrug. "It’s probably nothing."
"Oh yeah, no doubt!"
