This is Enough?

I've been stewing on this idea for a long time and I'm finally writing it. Chapters will start short but will progressively get longer.

Chapter Text

"It is impossible for men and women to be just friends."

This is a phrase Pepito has heard once or twice during his seventeen years on this earth. It mostly came from his cousins and his friends whenever he brought up his best friend, Madeline.

"It's bound to happen eventually, Pepito." His cousin, Pablito, sneers as they sit outside his house.

Pepito had come to stay over for a few days so they had been spending the day together. He wasn't too fond of spending time with his cousins because of their immaturity but when it came to having dumb fun, he couldn't deny that they were good company. However, whenever Madeline popped up as a topic, it would end up like this.

The son of the Spanish ambassador shook his head and made a frustrated expression. "I've told you guys many times, mis primos, Madeline and I are just friends."

"Yeah right." Paquito, the eldest, huffs. "Is it because you are "just friends" that you're going to be spending all summer with her?"

Pepito's eyebrows pulled down. "I'm not spending all summer with her. My father asked me if I wanted to come along with him to Paris to learn some of his work." he explains.

It was true. His father had been called to do a month long business trip in France. He thought that it would be a good opportunity for his son to gain experience in his job so he invited him, also giving him some free time to spend with his long unseen friends there as well.

Seeing Madeline was just a perk.

Pablito looked ready to throw in a snide remark but is interrupted by the youngest, Panchito, running outside to call them in for dinner. Relieved, Pepito quickly stands up and goes in behind him. He isn't fast enough to miss Paquito's muttered quip though.

"Don't mind him. Six years apart could change a lot."

He ignores it.

Notes:

As I said, this will be a slow burn so the story may last way longer than my usual ones. I hope you guys can bear with me and I will do my best to make it worth the wait!
